Here is WotC's lame attempt at justifying their actions:
Whatever. I am still sore over HOW this was handled, regardless of their glorious future plans.
I think the future is bright for Paizo, but you can't take a blow to the stomach like that and just except the kiss on the cheek. For as much as I will actively pimp Paizo's products I will discourage the consumption or WotC's.

It seems that Dungeon and Dragon are going to be produced by WotC after all. There is mention of plans for the future of the magazines.
There are also names we know and trust who have added their names to a list of WotC staff and writers who say there is some good to come of all this. Thank you Wizards for finally taking some time to make your position clear by using the names we know.
Why was this not the first thing we saw?
Why did we get a soulless silence from the Wizards forums?
Why did Scott Rouse put up such a curt and opaque announcement and open himself and the company to attack?
Don't !@#$ with brand loyalty. No good ever comes of it.

Anyone notice that none of the 3rd Edition Designers were part of their "flashback"?
Really could have blown any more smoke up my @ss instead of saying, "Gee, Paizo was stealing our thunder, cuz we let crappy editors do our work, while Paizo was really making much more of an effort than we were."
Even before all this dropping the license came out, I pretty much stopped buying WotC products, cuz really do I need Complete Mage and Complete Arcane......and all these other books that they are duping, but thats besides the point.
Some of the world-specific materials in Paizo were great and even the generic stuff really helped....as compared to WotC, well lets just say my dogs could have came up with better stuff than most of them. So one kid got threatened and didnt want to share his toys and said, "screw you guys, I'm going home."
Now WotC wants us to pay a fee to get pdf's when their normal books sucked and lacked any editing and playtesting
(sigh) god bless the almighty dollar.....

I thought the response to be very lame, but that is just my opinion. For me, it did nothing but reiterate what they said before, only giving vague hints at possible online content in the indeterminable future. As a loyal subscriber to the magazines for the past seven years, this response does not satisfy me.
And the quote: “Yesterday was sad, but it was exciting, too. It’s exciting because I know something that you don’t know as yet. I know what happens next. And I can’t wait to share that with you, in all its glory. But I can’t do that today.”? - I’m sorry I know it wasn’t intended, but I found that to be outright insulting to me as a customer. I don’t like being kept ignorant. I am a customer who is upset at having her favorite magazines taken away from her, not a child to be teased as to what her birthday present might be. If they are going to yank the product away from me that I’ve been religiously purchasing for years, then could they please present to me a good explanation as to why and/or a more informed plan with what they have in mind as the alternative. As a customer I don’t think it’s too much to ask. After all, it is my money they wish to have, I need to have a very good and convincing reason to spend it. Keeping me in the dark about it only irritates me further and tempts me to spend my hard earned money on products from a company that does care.
I would not be nearly as upset as I am if WotC had handled this whole ordeal in a more professional manner such as how Paizo did.
