Maiden of the High Seas

Savage Tide Adventure Path

I have purchased and built the Maiden from World Works Games. I planned to use it as the Blue Nixie in the first adventure but I'd like to use it as the Sea Wyvern as well. Is it too much of a stretch to use it for both?

Not a stertch at all. Building one (nevermind two) takes a while, although the the final product is worth it.

One thing I found when building - DO buy foamboard for the decking. It's more solid (and forgiving) than straight-up cardboard backing.

You can also manipulate the colrs of the printing (usually in the printer settings) to produce two (three, four, even five) different versions of the ship, and that's before you kitbash.

There are also a number of kitbashes available on the WorldWorks site (minimal charges apply), as well as a buttload of ideas in the forum area of their site.

I did use foamboard and was even able to find it in black so I didn't have to edge it. It was a very long process for me. It seemed like every step took me about 4 times longer then it stated in the instructions (granted this was my first attempt at cardstock models). I must admit though I am glad I went through the process since this ship will be the centerpiece prop of the campaign. I even read on another thread the party will eventually sail it into the Abyss!

This campaign is going to rock!

The Blue Nixie is almost twice as long as the Sea Wyvern. We are buiding models for them, and the Blue Nixie is MUCH more massive.

Of course, this can be fudged.

We just finished up our current campaign last week so I decided to let the players see the Maiden for the first time. Their reaction was awesome! They just kept staring at it, then they'd take the mini that represented their next PC and place it in different spots all over the ship. It was like watching a bunch of kids at a candy store for the first time. I must say I was pleased with the result. They even said they'd rather sail on the ship than use teleport spells because they thought the ship was so cool!

The Maiden is about the size of the Blue Nixie. Is this going to cause an issue for the campaign if the group gains a ship of this size? I can handle the amount of space available by hauling more cargo, placement of interiors walls, etc easily enough. I am assuming it would need a larger crew to sail it as well. I am wondering if there is anything in the last few adventures when the ship is sailed to the Abyss (I can't wait to spring that one on them!) that would cause an issue?

After the reaction the the ship I either have to use it or build another one that's smaller. I suppose I could build another hull that wasn't as long and use the existing stern and forecastle to shorten it up a bit but it would still be considerably larger than the Sea Wyvern.
If I let Lavinia have the ship for the Blue Nixie and used the Sea Wyvern from the magazine I think my players would be disappointed (the handout will be used for attacking pirate ships!).

Any suggestions?

Give your players the Maiden. They'll be spending lots of time on it, and the size shouldn't make much difference to the adventure. I don't remember any significant role for the Blue Nixie, but maybe I wasn't paying attention.
