Battlestar Galactica... (3rd season spoilers)

Holy anti-climax!!

Spoiler:
Did they really kill off Starbuck, or will she come back as a Cylon?

Ultradan

Liberty's Edge

I think she bailed because everybody was whining about her being a female on the internet, and she pulled a Wil Wheaton.

People, don't listen to internet whiners!!!

Whoa, invoking the name of Wil Wheaton? What happened exactly?

Damnit. Not current on the show since they moved to late-o-clock Sunday nights. Didn't expect a spoiler right there at top. Oh well.

I hate it when shows change their plots because of actors. It's one of the things that ruined Lost, it marred X-men 3 (where's cyclops? where's nightcrawler?), etc. Actors should be treated like the interchangable pretty cattle that they are and replaced with the snap of a finger.

Waitaminute, I think I'm getting it now- she pulled a Tasha Yar, not a Wil Wheaton! I can't wait to tell my fiancee!

Sebastian, I'm truly sorry... You're right. It didn't even cross my mind that I could be spoiling the story for someone who hasn't seen it yet. I'm an idiot.

Again, I'm very sorry. It wasn't my intention.

No worries - I knew when I clicked on the thread there was a good risk of spoilers, so it's more my fault than yours. I didn't expect anything quite so major given that the season is not over and the importance of Starbuck to the storyline, but still, I should not have clicked on the thread to begin with if I wanted to stay uninformed.

The worse unintentional spoiler I ever received came from a commercial for 24. (Spoilers follow regarding the first season). There was a commercial during the second season for an episode and it said something like "What will Jack to do the woman who killed his wife!?!?" So, right then and there, I knew the two biggest spoilers of season one: Jack's wife dies and Nina is the traitor. Thanks Fox.

**POSSIBLE SPOILER**
As far as BSGv2 has gone, the producers/directors/writers have done a great of adding in elements from BSGv1. By setting the stage with Kara's "visions," they could be doing a more spiritual version of the "angelics" from the original series.

Now all we need is the return of the Nomen Monks!

I wasn't aware that starbuck's death was at all actor related. After all, she has been putting up with that internet criticism of "starbuck is a woman!?" for almost 3 years now. I think she can handle it by now. And anyone that sits down and watches the show could see that it is not that much of an issue.

I thought the death was fairly well in character. I was still a little shocked, since they didn't come up with the last minute save. But the character has been very messed up in the head for a while. It wasn't that far out to see her crack under the weight of it all.

By the way, does anyone know how many episodes are left in the season? Feels like it just got started again.

This Sunday night is the season finale.

Liberty's Edge

That's another thing I'm getting po'ed about. They shoot 7 shows or whatever and call it a season, and run reruns for 4 months. Last time they pulled that garbage on me I gave up on Lost; I couldn't remember when it was starting again or anything. Screw it; it'll be on in syndication.

I added a spoiler warning to the thread title and wrapped the spoiler itself in the nifty new [spoiler] tag.

Oh my god! 20 years later those monks still haunt my memories...

Season Finale:
First half hour - Pretty damn cool. A good resolution to Baltar's Trial.

Second half hour - It just kept building and building until those final 3-4 reveals in the last five minutes moved me from sitting on the couch to sitting on the floor, elbows on the coffee table and face in hands (probably no different a pose than the one I had when the original BSG premiered in 1978...).

Episode Close: NINE FRAKKING MONTHS!?!?! WE HAVE TO WAIT NINE FRAKKIN' MONTHS FOR THE NEXT SEASON?!?!?!? AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! (<sigh> Looks like a few DVD marathons for me over the next nine months...Wait, that's a bad thing!?!)

Ditto on what he just said!! Got a cigarette? lol..

I screamed at the TV. Seriously. 2008?!! What are they doing, building a replica Earth on the Moon or something?

During the closing scene, while Hendrix was playing, I actually started having an acid flashback to the opening scene of the animated movie "Heavy Metal" (ride-one ride-on...).

2008, now we have to wait.

That was no Hendrix! The Hendrix version is WAY better—in fact, I'd say the Hendrix version of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" is one of the best-produced songs ever. What you heard was just the usual composer and some of his friends and relatives.

Tensor wrote:

Apparently there will be a sort of TV-movie thing at the end of this year that ties in with the next season but isn't considered part of the season. It's about...

Spoiler:
the Pegasus.

The Hendrix version of "All Along the Watchtower" stands supreme. :)

yeah the how 2008 had me saying WTF. any how Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower" is the only version IMHO . except nothing else

Caught the rerun last night.

Spoiler:

Holy shazbot! Was that a helluva statement by Lee or what????

Um, which statement was that? I must have been focused on other revelations.

the one in court im guessing . i saw the starbuck thing comeing . and there was only 5 other cylons on the ship and some of then i did not see comeing

Well, that is better than an eplileptic siezure.

Spoiler:
YOU'VE RUINED MY BEAN SALAD !!!

... Quick push it again!

hmm.. do you think this show just Jumped-the-Shark with main characters starting to quote 1970's lyrics, and half of the good guys turning into bad guys ?

Agreed, although the Dave Matthews Band did the song considerable justice in concert at New Orleans Jazz Fest one year.

Starbuck must have gone into the future and brought back *good* cylons from Earth. This is why the fleet will survive being caught with their power-fluctuation-pants-down.

I think the *good* cylon fleet and the *bad* cylon fleet will annihilate each other, and the whole series will have a happy ending in re-runs.

Hmmm...

Maybe Starbuck just stumbled upon a wormhole that leads to earth... Or another earth-like planet. That would explain a few things. The way she dissapearing with her ship, inside the space cloud that looked like an eye (she did dive in the center of it).

As for the four individuals who seem to think they are not what they seem, it can turn out to be anything really. Be it brainwashing, or whatever. You know, like they do sometimes in cliffhagners; They make you think that someone is dead or something happens that turns the world totally upside down, then when the next season continues, you learn that the person isn't really dead, and that the events aren't THAT bad after all...

We'll just have to wait (ten months!!) and see...

Yay, it could be mind control. Like when Captian America's girlfriend shot him.

Maybe starbuck is not really there. Apollo and the gang may have had chips planted in their heads.

April 2007, May 2007, June 2007 ... H U R R Y U P 2 0 0 8 !

As I said before, I'm almost certain Kara has experienced the "angelics" from the original series. Note the condition of her Viper in the season finale - pristine, not a scratch on it and the paint bright and brilliant. During their conversation, Lee's voice was popping and cracking with normal radio static; Kara's voice was clean and clear.

Like residuals from the Cylon Virus that invaded the then-networked Galactica computers at the beginning of season 2. (Tigh was hearing something in the ship's walls...)

Wow, I was completely unaware that Starbuck's actress was getting a rough time because of her gender. It never ceases to amaze me how insane people are.

I thought the criticism of her sex stopped after the first season.

However, I did hear her say that she hated the show and couldn’t wait until it ended.

We she “died” I actually thought she had asked to written out of the show, and her death did not surprise me at all.

Her return did!!

Battlestar Galactica is the 90210 in space. It is a soap opera.

I've just bought the second season on DVD... Does anyone know why they split the second season into two parts (season 2.0 and 2.5)? When you buy both parts, it costs around 1.5 times the cost of the first season. I'm all for extras, but damn!!

Ultradan

They split it that way because they split the production of the season that way. There was a several-month gap between the first half of the season and the second half, and the DVD set for the first half went on sale around the same time the second half of the season started airing.

I think these gaps may kill me. This show is the best SF I have seen on TV for a very very long time.

Man at party: No.

I've looked but still haven't seen Season 3.0 dvds anywhere. You sure they're out Gary?

I think that he was talking about the realease of seasons 2.0 and 2.5 as seperate DVD sets.

My friend Elly got me into the show, for which I am eternally grateful. For Christmas, I got her a shirt that says "The Others are Cylons" :P

In a homebrew I'm writing, I've made many of the important NPCs D&D versions of the main characters.

Lee Adama, LG fighter 5/favored soul (apollo)1
Kara Thrace, CG swashbuckler 3/barbarian 2
William Adama, LG marshal 10

I think it's the ultimate union of all my favorite things.

You are correct my dear. And I hope that the third season will come out on ONE box only.

Isn't this a great show? I think what I like the best about it is the overall seriousness of the characters involved. And the space action sequences... I LOVE how it looks like someone is filming the space scenes with a hand-held video-recorder. It really does the job of making it more believable (for me anyway).

The Exchange

I was very dissapointed with the end of Season 2: They skipped a year of new caprica (I wanted to see the bickering, religious infighting, murders, stuff like that) But no they skip forward a year to the cylons.

If I had been in President Baltar's shoes i would have given the planet to the Gemenese and let them farm the delta and build up food reserves while the rest went off to find build up their resources out in space and then returned so everyone would be ready for a big Jump toward Earth...But then I also believe that these humans were created by the cylons and that the entire war was staged so that they could track down the original Galactica and fleet.

What better way of finding earth than use humans to lead you there.

By "original Galactica" do you mean that you believe that the cylons just want to find Lorne Green?
