Tages albums. (Studio, 2, Extra Extra, and Contrast.) Makes you wonder at how Björn and Benny of ABBA became the first world-sized Swedish success act as songwriters - these guys were lightyears ahead of them during the 60's.

Probably didn't help that they picked their band name because it was the dorkiest one they could think of.

I left my shoes at home

Yay Tages!

I'm listening to Al di Meola. Much less cool ;)

I'm going to try that line on someone next time I go out, which may end up be the last thing I ever do on this earth.

Listening to that amazing Francoise Hardy track reminded me of Sad Song for Winter, by Chimera. Don't know why, 'cause it sounds nothing like it...

That's a pretty good Boston accent, Limey.

This link will take you deep into politroll territory, but it's a Musical Interlude that I am quite proud of, thank you very much.

That's pretty kicking, but I'm missing the female vocalists on the studio track.

Mostly my son's toys. Again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

And then, I - oh, wait, no again. About five more times.

But after that, I usually - no, wait, I listen to it again a few dozen more times.

:)

After a while, I find myself listening to (and singing) those songs, even when they no longer play. It's so odd to have "Riding around to see some color..." running through my head at all hours. :)

My albums that I have taped for in-car listening (as opposed to at home listening, or, now, at work iPod listening) runs:

Steve Ashley--Stroll On Brit Folk-rock in the Fairport tradition

Lee Dorsey--Can You Hear Lee Dorsey? 2 record set

The Fleshtones--Up Front '80s garage rock revivalists EP

The Flying Lizards--Money 12" single backed w/a cover of "Summertime Blues"

Al Green--Let's Stay Together Here doing a Bee Gees cover

Isaac Hayes--Hot Buttered Soul Sexy!!

The Weirdos--Weird World Vol. 1 LA punks

The Who--The Who Sell Out

Empty space filled up with either Louis Armstrong or Charlie Parker

A few more I'll do later.

!!!

That Steve Ashley album's going to the top of the list - quite a lot better than most of Fairport's output after Richard Thompson left (IMHO)

Help yourselves. Now slightly drunk, so don't blame me if these all link to One Direction songs.

I often take these night shift walks when the foreman's not around
I turn my back on the cooling stacks and make for open ground
Far out beyond the tank farm fence where the gas flare makes no sound
I forget the stink and I always think back to that eastern town

I remember back six years ago, this western life I chose
And every day, the news would say some factory's going to close
Well, I could have stayed to take the dole, but I'm not one of those
I take nothing free, and that makes me an idiot, I suppose

So I bid farewell to the eastern town I never more will see
But work I must so I eat this dust and breathe refinery
Oh I miss the green and the woods and streams and I don't like cowboy clothes
But I like being free and that makes me an idiot I suppose

So come all you fine young fellows who've been beaten to the ground
This western life's no paradise, but it's better than lying down
Oh, the streets aren't clean, and there's nothing green, and the hills are dirty brown
But the government dole will rot your soul back there in your hometown

So bid farewell to the eastern town you never more will see
There's self-respect and a steady check in this refinery
You will miss the green and the woods and streams and the dust will fill your nose
But you'll be free, and just like me, an idiot, I suppose

Sovereign Court

I stared you down so hard I burnt your shadow to the wall
and through the haze you served a slow pull from grace
at a drunken pace
I've nothing to sell you, nothing to trade
what would you have me give? what would you let me take?
let fall past your lips a siren's kiss
to temper the crash of dawn
sister sing along "twilight be sweet"
come tomorrow of this place we cannot speak
and come tomorrow these sins we share, we two shall keep
oh twilight be sweet
pull the blinds, put my back to the door
say not a word, sister, split down on me
kill the lights, drag me to the floor
say not a word, sister, split down on me
