Monday Morning Jazz Brunch

Saw American Hustle the other day and realized I hadn't listened to this one in a long while:

Duke Ellington at Newport 1956

The characters flirted to "Jeep's Blues," but in was "Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue" that (almost? I forget the details now) started a riot.

Hee hee! La Principessa and I had a...um, a disagreement about this very subject just last night that spilled over into this morning. Worked everything, logged on to the computer and played it while she was assembling her Ikea dresser, even went and played the Thelma Houston hit cover and she still didn't get it. She's kinda oblivious sometimes.

Anyway, Jesus Christ, woman! It's one o'clock in the morning and I'm tired! Leave me be!

Danzig/Pennywise/Cancer Bats in KC

Spoiler:
Danzig looked and sounded great! Tommy and the band were amazing. Great show! Of course there was the overzealous amount of 'no friggin photos or u get ejected' stuff all day and night. They kept saying Danzig would throw a hissy if he saw a cell phone out to take pics. We were almost tempted to see what a Glennhissy would look like, but we were front center against the barricade and didnt want to lose our spot.

First up was a local band, Hellevate! They're pretty good. Some technical difficulties with mic cord tangle and some off-timed picking, but overall, I liked em. Next up is Cancer Bats (or motherf*&~ing cancerbats, as they called themselves). Bass player was INSANE Cliff Burton type of non stop headbanger and effects pedals. LOVED IT! They're best known song was a cover of Beasties 'Sabotage', but they had several others that were really good. Imma have to find em on Amazon. Then came Pennywise. I swear they got banned from KC back on a Vans Warped tour about 10 years ago, but I cant find anything on google to support that. Anyway, Jim was mentioning names of bands on ppls tshirts and pointed my Slayer one out as one he liked. Got a pick from Fletcher, who was kinda drunk and really does not like WOLVERINE! Dont even ask him about it...lol. Then a long break before Danzig. No pedestal/pulpit this time. He was out and in pretty good shape. Hes grown his nails out into claws, so when you lock 'devilhorns' with him from the stage to the pit, its kinda weird...Hes sort of promoting a covers record thats about to release. Covered an old biker/garage rock song called 'Devils Angels' and a Elvis song, and the crowd went nuts when they broke out Sabbaths 'N.I.B.'. He did almost all his Danzig hits (No Dirty Black Summer)...but Im still singing 'Her Black Wings' a day later, AWESOME!

Caught a setlist from Jerry the bassist, that must have terrible eyesight. It is twice the size of everyone elses. heh.
