I'm guessing its bands like Black Veil Brides, Five Finger Death Punch, Ill Nino, Trapt, LimpBizkit, Korn, Kid Rock all the way back to Poison, Slaughter, Motley, BonJovi and the like. Usually a band HEAVILY promoted as 'dangerous' and gets a lot of kids to throw horns \m/ up. Right?
Sort of, though I did listen to more than a few of those bands back in the day. I believe the technical term is "post-grunge," but I'd use the term "really, really want to be Pearl Jam and/or Soundgarden, but just can't seem to get it right." There are a few diamonds in the rough (mostly bands fronted by guys who used to play actual grunge and other forms of actual music), but there's a whole lot of rough. A sampling:

Been listening to a band called Cage9 today. One of the guys here at work keeps raving about them and telling me if I'm into Seether I'll love them.
Pulled them up on Spotify... they sound nothing like Seether. If anything I'd say they're more like Three Days Grace, who I also like, but it's not really what I'm in the mood for at the moment.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - "Red Right Hand"
Been watching Peaky Blinders by any chance? That song is played constantly in it (it's the theme song, and used in quite a few episodes). They even have an episode where every song used is a cover of it. I love the PJ Harvey version.
As for what I'm listening to:

I'm listening to Day of the Mantid. I also use some of the songs as background music for gaming sessions. Psych Up makes a great battle warm up song.

Never heard of Peaky Blinders. I used to listen to Nick Cave all the time, and my memory was jogged by hearing a cover version used in the trailer for "Crimson Peak."

In that case... watch it. Historical British gangster drama set just after World War I. First season stars Cillian Murphy, Helen McRory and Sam Neill. Second adds Tom Hardy and Noah Taylor.
The music is all contemporary stuff (a lot of Nick Cave and PJ Harvey, with some other stuff) except for anything that's actually part of the scene (bar songs etc)

I still can't get over the fact that the guys who wrote and performed this piece of pop-rock trash also wrote and recorded the title track for one of my all-time favorite movies.

And the series also has a signature beer. I drank some on Saturday. It was alright.

^^Id Rather have the Mud City Stout, I think. LOVE Tom Hardy. Ill have to check that series out. 'Bronson' was my first sighting (AWESOME film). Love 'The Take' mini-series (not so much Rock n Rolla). I have the dvd of Locke right now from the library, Ill watch that this week.
As for the WIDE variety of what I've been listening to this weekend.
Sia - Chandelier (2015 Grammys) Not really for the song, more for the performance. Weird to see the artist hide in the background while onstage during this moment, the biggest exposure she will ever have.
Nappy DJ Needles did a mashup of Tribe Called Quest and Outkast. I like it.
Speaking of mashups...Elton John and P'nau.
which leads to Almost Famous (in MY head). Took one of those online quizzes for 'Which Almost Famous character Are You'. I was hoping to be PSH version of Lester Bangs...but I ended up as Anita Miller, the older sister that gives the main character her record collection at the beginning then goes off to travel the world. I wasnt expecting that to even be a choice, but I LOVE that! Plus, it was Zooey Deschanel. So fits my crazy brain.
So, from there, I link around...looking for Cameron Crowes other movies (including Aloha, the new one thats not out, but is supposed to have music by Mothersbaugh). (Devo sidetrack...Mongoloid cover by band called The Porkers) Find the soundtrack to 'We Bought a Zoo'. Interesting and its the guy from Sigur Ros, so I go thru a bunch of his stuff.
Riceboy Sleeps - Atlas Song. Not my normal music, but this one hits me and reminds me of my brother.
Then, after all that, I find a digital copy of 5FDP with some bonus tracks and buy the extras, since I already have the hard copy of 'War is the Answer'.
FiveFingerDeathPunch - Succubus Its a demo bonus track. Wish they would do this one LIVE!

Whoops! Mr Mallon ninja'd me!
Thanks for that Matt Nathanson clip. I dunno who this guy is. Going to have to look him up. Angus is deceptive. People think his riffs are simple, not so much. He's got innovative chops and this guy did a pretty good job for coming up with the solo pretty much on the spot. ACDC is a KNOWN band, Matt, dont f~%& around :D
I also feel bad for 'sweet sweet Andrew' the guest...he was probably coming out to sing a love ballad or something. heh
PS. THIS is why I LOVE seeing bands live. This kind of stuff is so electrifying!

I just love the "oh s~#*" look that Matt gives when the drummer starts playing.

They did a pretty dopey cover of one of my favorite Stan Rogers songs once. And they also covered The Wurzels for some reason.

So, that last one...La Principessa and I were shacked up in a room at the Free NH Goblin Resistance Hideout while the Black Goblin and his Pregnant Dreadlocked Libertarian Ex-Welder Girlfriend cleaned up the place. They were blasting tunez from her laptop and Jeff came on. I broke a passionate liplock to look La Principessa in the eyes and sang along:
"But you don't really care for music/Do ya?"
She pouted and replied, "But I like this song!"

Sometimes I wonder if China Mieville writes the script for your life. Tell me, do you seem to always be finding stray adjectives around the house?

Confession: I've only read The City and the City.
That's... not the best entry in his collected works.
Read:
- Perdido Street Station
- The Scar
- Iron Council
- Un Lun Dun
- King Rat
Maybe read:
- The City And The City
- Looking For Jake
- Railsea
Don't bother:
- Embassytown
- Kraken
