Not a gentle Monday for me, I must meet it head-on and conquer it!

Amon Amarth - Deceiver of the Gods

How much more METAL could fit in this video? The answer is - NONE!

Is that video entirely for the music? The production values seem... too good.

Given that I saw Amon Amarth play a festival earlier this year (so they're one of a stupid number of bands playing and only get a 30 to 40 minute time slot), and they were the first band of the day (a slot that traditionally doesn't get huge crowds)... and yet they still set up half a longship and pyrotechnics for their set, I will say I'm actually not surprised at the production values for that video. Dudes love their music, and love the showmanship that goes with it.

Amon Amarth 2014 movie. Did some digging. IMDB's Northmen entry. Looks like Switzerland got the premiere, and Germany gets the first run. We'll see when it gets to US either in theatrical run or dvd. Looks good.

Call Me

According to rock'n'roll legend, Jimmy Page was looking for a hot shiznit new singer/guitarist for the new outfit he was putting together. He asked Terry Reid if he wanted the gig, and Terry was like, "No thanks."

Live in 1969 (Warning: Contains a Donovan cover!)

Old Grey Whistle Test

The Blondie Muppets vids made me wonder if I could find any vids of The Nerves. Nope, but I did find their album which collects everything they did (I think.) Huzzah, internet!

If Morrissey dies, I can almost guarantee you that we'll get a new Jesse Lacey / Brand New album.

Morrissey's mortality doesn't affect me the way it does you, Doodlebug. My only connection to Madchester is thru Ferris Beuller's visit to the Chicago Art Museum.

But I did wear a black armband the day Ronnie James Dio died. Malcolm Young's recent retirement bothers me, too. When the Maiden boys start shuffling off, I will be in really bad shape as well.

depeche Mode - Precious
and Tangerine Dreams' cover of the tune.

Have to admit I have a hard time rustling up much enthusiasm about post-Smiths Morrisey.

But obviously he doesn't deserve to get cancer (very few people do).

Last Moz track I remember: First of the Gang to Die

So, I'd never heard of this dude, and this album is awesome, and I was looking for some background reading and stumbled upon...the coolest website evah?

Julian Cope Presents Head Heritage

Although it looks like he hasn't posted an Album of the Month since 2010...

Freddie King
Memphis Minnie
Big Bill Broonzy (Omar the Former Arab Terrorist gives this one the thumbs up)
Otis Rush
Lightnin' Hopkins

So, I've been listening to Lightnin's Hello Central: The Best of Lightnin' Hopkins at work and I don't think I've ever heard of a worse lover in all my life. Every song he's either complaining that he has no idea why his woman's mad at him, or else, he's threatening to take away her wig.

The Murderburgers - "(I'll Always Be A) Bottom Feeder"
Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer - "Disappearing Man"
The Stay Gones - "Home"
Junior Brown - "Gotta Get Up Every Morning"
Junior Brown - "Better Call Saul"

Viet Cong - "Structureless Design"
Andrew Jackson Jihad - "People II 2: Still Peoplin'"
Annie Lennox - "Into The West"
Matt Pless - "The Devil In Her Makeup"
Bridge Under Fire - "Previously On The West Wing"

I was about to log off, but then I realized it's past midnight here on the American East Coast and I can do Funk for Friday! now!

Huzzah!

Black Sheep
Gil Scott-Heron (Vive le Galt!)
Big Joe Williams
Son House
Meghan Trainor

So, that last one: Mrs. Comrade heard it on the radio and thought it had a positive, pro-full-bodied woman, feminist slant and she posted it on the Commonwealth Party of Galt (M-L) Woman's Caucus webpage and one of the comrades, who's been on RT, like, a lot, was all like "Oh yeah, that's my cousin." Anyway, Mrs. Comrade played it for me and then I made her watch "Anaconda." Hee hee!

Bi Kyo Ran - Parallax

Has lots of mellotron on (good)
Sounds a lot like King Crimson in places (very good)
Mars Volta- esque incomprehensible song titles (um)
Synth brass (ugh)

Dr. Who Meets Metal - 331Erock

The Kinks--"Days"

Which, if rock legend is to be believed, is the most touching song ever written about a departing bass player.

Also,

Gucci Gucci Two Times
Say it two times

Gil Scott-Heron

Lady Day

John Coltrane

PlentaKill. (Links later, if time permits.)

The Currency - "Hold Fast"
Caught Up In A Dream - "Reoccurring Arguments Can Harm Everyone's Lives"
Crucial Youth - "Just Say No, Be Just Like Me And Mr. T"
Superdrag - "Sucked Out"
Austin Lucas - "Dead Factories"

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Currently listening to the first rough mix from the album I'm working on. I'm convinced I'm slowly learning how to unplay the guitar.

Tacticslion wrote:

As promised, Links!

And still more!

... what, not what you were looking for?

Sigh, fine.

Maybe something more like this?

Man, I'm so glad that Plentakill created an entirely original non-Parody song that certainly couldn't have been adapted from something else. So nice living in a world like that. :)

More awesome music stuff!

And now to win 'The Eclectic Weirdo' Award by giving you musical style whiplash! Booya!

(So good!)
