Return of the Runelords AP...which edition is it being written for?

Prerelease Discussion

Curious about this. Is Return of the Runelords going to be written for PF 1e? Is it going to be the last AP for 1e? Is it going to be the stepchild where it's a hybrid of playtest rules for 2e?

Which version is it going to be written for?

If a Hybrid with the new Playtest rules...will it be easily backwards compatible with 1e?

Will it be written so that it will probably be easily adaptable to 2e?

It's for 1e. There won't be any 2e APs until fall of 2019.

If my math is correct (Which it rarely is), War for the Crown will end in August, we'll get Return of the Runelords, and then we'll get one more full AP before GenCon of next year when 2e is scheduled to be released.

That is correct.

And WOW, that last AP is a DOOZY.

Is Golarion exploding to make way for Starfinder's story? Or is this like an Order of the Stick scenario where suddenly there's a flash of light and everything's updated to the new edition? ;)

So, for those who jump headfirst into the Playtest...do they just convert the AP to see how conversion works, or will there be any tools to help with that?

As both the AP and playtest come out the same month, it could be unique trying to decide which to play...or which to choose.

Its a nice thematic send off to the 1E line.

Getting feedback on how easy or difficult a time GMs have converting 1E content to 2E rules is actually really valuable. I'm excited to see how people make it work in their playtest campaigns, if only because it will be a true test of how consistent the stories you can tell with both rules sets are.

I hope the final AP will be the Dominions of the Black one <_< Though maybe its something like "Prevent Rovagug from awakening" which I guess is fine as well, but I've really been hoping for that Dominions of the Black AP ever since the date for doomsday clocks passed

Tease.

There's an irrational part of me a little irritated by the fact you're not doing one more before switching. It's a stupid, non-reason but it would mean the 1st edition shelf would finish at AP150, just like my dungeon magazines do. :/

It had damned well better revolve around a risen Nocticula.

I'm guessing it might be a Starstone/Aroden AP. Solving the mystery of Aroden's disappearance and clearing up Pathfinder's Big Question could be a very appropriate finale to 1E.

I am already impressed with PF2, which addresses many annoyances I've experienced while GMing over the past 6 or so years. My group is set to wrap up Strange Aeons in August where we then are planning on playing Return of the Runelords.

I would love love love to run Return with the PF2 rule set understanding full well that there will be extra work to be done with conversions and such but...

For the upcoming Pathfinder Playtest Rulebook, we will be offering a sort of cheat sheet to help you with some of the big changes in the game, but there will not be a detailed conversion guide. The focus here is to test the new edition of the game, not convert pieces of the old edition. That said, once we are done with the playtest and the game has been forged into its final form, we will provide guidance for using material from First Edition.

This makes me nervous that I won't have enough resources available to me to make this happen. I have read that Mark Seifter is in the process of running Shattered Star in PF2 quite successfully but I assume he has more resources available to him than what will be available to me with just the Playtest Rulebook come August 2nd.

Is someone able to comment on the feasibility of this? Will there be enough information available to pull this off?

Here's hoping y'all find a diagetic way to explain all the various things that will be slightly different because of new mechanics/options in PF2; that would be fantastic to watch for once we have the playtest document.
