Ooh, maybe the grandma was Tooth Fairy. Or a voodoo witch. Or both. Frankly that is a Neil Gaiman book waiting to happen.

You're missing the point. There are certain "undead" elements in our society (some of whom even post in our midst), which me must stand ready to fight!

And bears. Can't forget the damn bears.

Damn, the cute and cuddly plan's not fooling them.

OK boys, time to activate Plan B - Teddys Revenge.

The military is (by necessity) run as a mini-facist government. The group/state is above the individual, dissidents are not tolerated, and absolute obedience is expected. The military embraces not questioning leadership as a core value.

Speaking as someone who works directly with lots of military (Navy) types, I'd have to disagree with you on these points. I'm not sure 'fascist' would be the proper term to describe the military hierarchy. It seems to me to be more like a feudal organization, with authority being delegated in a pyramid fashion.

And while the group is valued above the individual, absolute obediance is not forced. People are allowed to express their opinions, and the mechanisms are in place for them to do so without violating the chain of command or any regs. There are officers who don't like to be questioned (I've met them), but there are others who welcome a questioning mind (I've met them as well). A bunch of unthinking drones is not an effective combat unit. You have to have people who can think for themselves and question some orders. That way, if a leader is killed in the heat of battle, maybe you have someone who can take over for him.

And this zombie would be right there in front leading the charge, quoting John Wayne and Ronald Reagan, and burning a Che Guevara T-shirt.

Dungeon mags... first and foremost. I have only kept the core sourcebooks as the editions have progressed as well.

Beer... I try to drink at least 2 new beers a week. I've easily drank over 1000 different brands.
Hip hop CDs are my other guilty pleasure.

Things I've given up that I can't find an easy means to get rid of:
Garbage Pail Kids
Venetian Paradise hats

Hi,

I hope this works, OK...first time on site...
Are you interested in selling your venetian paradise hats?
I would be interested in knowing what kind you have and possibly purchasing them.

Let me know,
Pam:)

I would be right behind you, Aberzombie. I am definitly a capitalist. I do in fact beleive that Cheney (and his puppet, Bush) are moving America towards a fascist state in which they will control every facet of our lives (that might be a little extreme but their already wiretapping civilians so its not unreasonble). We must be able to resist such a thing. Seriously I'm not that militant (meaning I don't have my own personal arsenal) but if push came to shove...
As for things I collect I used to collect Star Wars action figures (they're still in a box somewhere), Lord of the Rings trading cards. Every few years I decide to weed out all of the junk and get rid of most of it and then start the cycle all over again. I have some books too (D&D& Star Wars). I would probably have more books but my budget is somewhat limited.

Ahem... I think the first part of your post crosses the line for these boards. Everybody is absolutely entitled to his own opinion on political matters, but this is not the place to discuss it.

The collecting thing got a little out of hand (and I played at least a small part in it), so lets play nice again, ok?

BTW, I didn´t see F2K posting lately on these boards? What´s up?

Sadly, work has been a real bear for him lately. :(

Dark Archive Owner - Johnny Scott Comics and Games

Let's try to return this thread to collections. My obsesssions/collections:

Comic Books (WAYY too many. My collection has grown larger than my local comic book dealer's stock).

Books (History, Mythology, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Horror, etc. I think I'm allergic to libraries).

Games (D&D and otherwise).

Horror Flicks on DVD.

BTW, I recently moved and discovered that 90% of my total worldly possessions consist of these things...My girlfriend says I need professional help...

hehe it seems my house is full of the same stuff as you guys; peas in a pod so to speak; especially Lilith as I have about 100 or so cookbooks; maybe more. Sheesh, art, books; have several hundred miniatures for warhammer and such; comic books, other books; have so many I like that I only have 3 big book shelves other than my d&d bookshelves and have to rotate the books out from time to time with ones in boxes; computer games; sheesh, it is depressing how many I have that were just a flash in the pan. Hehe, I seem to collect booze; probably have about 20 bottles of liquor about 10 bottles of wine and a couple cases of beer and I hardly drink at all, maybe 1 or 2 beers a week and maybe a shot of something in my coffee once in a while.

....you know...hmm...Las Vegas, NM has our states big mental institution..uhm..no joke; seriously; you could have been talking to a employee with less than a full deck under state supervision or just a local; really hard to tell the difference over there :)

Nah, your ok; you are not even scratching the surface of a collection obsession; hehe i know a guy that my friends and I think needs help because his place is so full of stuff; there is barely a path to each room and only one place to sit and that is about 4 feet from the tv hehe the only other path in the house; I am surprized that the floor doesnt cave in; I have been collecting warhammer minis for about 20 years; I have 4 army's - a decent collection in most peoples minds; sheesh this guy own over 50 tanks and maybe thousands of miniatures heeh he probably has over 500 goblins and 500 or so imperial guard. He works two jobs just to have the cash to buy more minis; hehe; now that is a guy who needs help.

Work can ruin your whole day, as they say over here.

Still, better than no job. And there are worse reasons that keep you from posting, I think.

Professional help for moving or for building more bookshelves ?

Stefan

I don't so much "collect" novels as "own way too many". I swear they're breeding. I'm finding old FR novels that I could swear I never bought.

Hey, it's me again...

Anybody know where MistaRyte may be these days?

I'd really like to talk to him about those hats.

Any help would be great...
Thanks! :)

Computer parts, though it's more accidental than intentional. "I'll fix it someday" has lead to a large steamer trunk full of old server boards, CD drives, cables and a large variety of "stuff."

Gee, I have a collection of old broken surf boards that keeps growing and growing "I'll fix 'um." someday.

I have a large collection of Dragon magazines. I got rid of a number of issues, I believe prior to issue 250, I think. A cousin gave me a CD with all these back issues on it a few years ago, so I got rid of two large boxes. But that was a few years ago, I now have two large boxes that go back to about 250 are so.

You da father! You know, there were nights in 5th grade that I woke up in the middle of the night frantically thinking "did I do my math set for tomorrow?!"

I gave up ater I realized that hey... 5% of my grade is homework, why the hell would I work so hard for a grade that could at best be 5 points higher when I can do things that I enjoy and get straight A's anyway.

anyway, on the topic of collections...

1)Books (any kind, ranging from fantasy to cartoons to the study of the roman legions)
2)D&D rulebooks
3)D&D minis
4)Computer Games

In that order

Aside from the obvious ones (books, D&D books, dice including dragon dice, and of corse Dragon magazine) My main colection is my Mineral / fossil colection and a growing folder of webcomics in my favorites.

My geology colection has been growing slowly but steadaly since I was 6, has gone though several culls as my tastes narrowed and my stadards for colections rased, and still manages to participte in a bitter war over my limited shellf space.

Hhhmm... When I read the thread title I automatically assumed that the talk was about D&D book collections. ;-) Actually people are talking about their collections (plural!), though...

I inherited a lot of novels from my grandpa ranging from the late 1800s to the 1950s. Add those books (D&D, novels, history, chess, computer, diving etc.) I purchased in the meantime...

Besides there is the "Electronic media", and fortunately I am not really into DVDs. I know friends whose DVD collections grew out of control... ;-)

I got my first camera at the age of six. So I "collected" a few photo albums over the years - and cameras. ;-)

Greetings,
Günther

Dark Archive

I have a collection that nobody has mentioned yet: books. Seriously, though, I do have quite a few. I keep having to get bigger houses to hold all of my books. Many of them are autographed: these hold a special place in my personal library. I have every Neil Gaiman hardcover autographed--ditto for Douglas Clegg and Caleb Carr. I have a couple of Stephen King autographs and a couple of Clive Barkers. I have a ton of autographed fantasy (fantasy authors seem to LOVE to sign their books!)

I also collect DVD's--lost count at 800 a couple of years ago--its kinda like a sickness...

I have every issue of Dungeon magazine published thus far.

I like to collect first and second edition modules still in the shrinkwrap. That's a collection that is getting harder and harder to expand.

I also collect ports. I know lots of folks who collect wines, but I only collect ports. I guess if you find one kind that you really like, focus on it!

I fell victim to the D&D pre-painted mini scam. I have complete collections of every expansion thus far. I have told myself that I will not buy even a single box of Unhallowed. I have to break this addi...ummm...collection because it can get way expensive. Also, Unhallowed is the first expansion that I have looked at all the previews and thought, "I really don't need any of this." It looks like there is a lot of Eberron stuff in there. Sorry, not interested.

I also have a few of the McFarland action figures. The original Death Row Marv is my favorite.
