In the vein of the Age of Worms Obituaries thread, let's report the untimely deaths of our valiant heroes in the latest adventure path. I'll kick things off.

PC: Grael, Draconic Orc Barbarian 1
Adventure: There is No Honor
Location of Death: D19 of the Lotus Dragon Hideout
Catalyst: Three rhagodessas and their powerful bites

Long Description: The descendant of a chaotic fang dragon and a particularly lusty female orc, Grael came to Sasserine along with the half-lillend Zan as a bodyguard. Along with Annah Jareth and Samantha Quickblade, graduates of the Cauldron adventuring company, he soon found himself in the employ of Lavinia Vanderboren. The party invaded the lair of the Lotus Dragons thieves' guild, managing to drive off Rowyn Kellani and kill many of the other thieves.

Once the main force of the Dragons had been defeated, the party decided to explore the sea caves just outside the subterranean hideout. One cave was inhabited by three rhagodessas, vicious vermin with enormous mandibles. Grael led the charge against them, slamming into the beasts with his enormous maul. During the battle, one of the creatures grabbed him in its pedipalps and bit deeply into the draconic orc. He managed to pull himself free, but the hooked barbs wounded him further. As the others in the party tried to deal with two of the rhagodessas, the third one pressed the assault on Grael. It bit the draconic orc again, its powerful mandibles tearing into him and biting deeply into his organs. It was too much for Grael to take, and he died on the spot.

He was later reincarnated, much to his chagrin, as a draconic halfling.

I'll be interested to hear it. My group almost had a death again last week fighting the Rhagodessan on the Blue Nixie. They dealt with the pirates and Soller Vark without too much trouble, but the Warblade got dropped to zero HP by the Rhagodessan's bite and then managed to escape with his partial action on his turn. This is the same Warblade that got killed by the wolves in the Champions Games I ran. I think the player is starting to think I have it out for him. They managed to kill the thing eventually, but it was a tough fight. I am worried about how they are going to do agains the Heucuva Cleric in Parrot Island because of it's damage reduction and the fact that they don't have an Arcane Spellcaster or true cleric, so no damage dealing spells or turning to help with it. They have two divine casters, but one is a Archivist and the other a Druid. They both took spontaneous healing, so they could use positve energy to damage it, and that may be a hint I need to give them with an appropriate knowledge check. That session is tonight, so we will see how it goes. They are all 2nd level now, so that will help.

PC: Mathias Bendecker, Human swashbuckler 1
Adventure: There is No Honor
Location of Death: Area P2, Under Parrot Island
Catalyst: Two ravenous pirate zombies dropped him to negative hit points and failed their Will saves. They stopped and coup de graced him.

Not an obituary so much as a warning. My party is down in the tunnels on Parrot island w/ the zombies. The crabs already tore into them pretty hardcore.

My only kill this far was the Druid's Medium Viper animal companion in the caves under Parrot Island by the Zombies. Two zombies dropped it to negative HP and failed their saves, eating the viper promptly thereafter.

Last night I had two near deaths as the Druid and the Spellthief were both below -7 hp against a Rhagodessan in the Lotus Dragon Guildhouse, but the archivist managed to use the spontaneous healing feat to get them both back into positives while the Warblade finished the Rhagodessan off. Those vermin have some major damage dealing capacity. The Spellthief took 27 pts of damage in one round. She had 20 hp and was at 3rd level. The druid then took 23 in one round right after that and he had 16 hp at the time after getting hit a few times by some 1st level rogues earlier on.

I really thought I might be looking at a TPK on that one.


This was a bloody weekend: TPK!

Location of Death: B10, hold of the Blue Nixie
Catalyst: One rhagodessa and its habbit to protect her new lair

DM's Description: Swam followed the screams of the poor animals burning to their death in the hold of the ship during battle with Soller Vark and his thugs. He witnessed the rhagodessa killing Mera and fought a short fight (2 rounds) until the vermin dropped him to -3. When he didn't move anymore the vermin started killing monkeys again. Then Nando found his way down to the hold. He tried to heal his wounded comrade, but fell prey to the rhagodessa, too. The party stripped off its healer was desperately searching for Nando. They found their way to the rhagodessa together, but were not able to take it down. The improved grapple ability followed by a free bite attack were simply too powerful for them. Although they could have shown smarter tactics it was bad luck that delivered the killing blow.

I mentioned this already in the DIFFICULTY post, and in a letter to Mr. Jacobs: TPK, repeatedly, trying to swim out from under Parrot Island through the sea caves (N.B. all characters have max ranks in Swim). After the second try, I had to cheat to give them any hope of survival at all. Am I misinterpreting the water hazards rules? Length of time of held breath was no problem, it's the check at -1/round (underwater) and automatically begin to drown if you fail by 5, and 5 checks (minimum) needed to get past.


You get to hold your breath for a number of rounds equal to twice your constitution score before you start having to make Con checks to prevent drowning. After your 'free' rounds of held breath are over, you have to make a DC 10 Con check every round, which increases by +1 DC for every subsequent round.

Man, where were you when we were all drowning? Seriously, though: thanks, everybody, for the replies. And, ultimately, my players are more interested in baccarat rules than in Swim checks... Is there a casino in Sasserine where they can bilk Vanthus out of his ill-gotten gains?


Actually, the PHB and the DMG disagree to the amount of time you can hold your breath. Pg 84 of the PHB (Swim) gives the time you can remain underwater, due to failed swim checks or intentionally diving under, as one round per Con. The DMG, pg 304 (Drowning), gives the duration for breath holding at two rounds per Con. I have houseruled, barring further official clarification, that the two rounds per Con only applies when someone chooses to go underwater and then remains stationary and inactive.

Pick up Three-Dragon Ante. Good game with all kinds of flavor.

I will use it to game out any gambling or casino type encounters. There is a way to actually use your character's stats to effect the game also.

Officially, the DMG is correct. The anniversary (black cover) PHB has all of the official errata in it and has that fixed to read 2 x your Con score.

We had another near TPK last weekend. In D17 of the Lotus Dragon Guildhouse, the group entered on a rowboat which got swamped by the Ixixitchls and I also added the Crocodile to the room. At one point, everyone in the party was in to negative hitpoints except for the Archivist and Sorcerer and they were both in to single digits. I tell you aquatic creatures in an aquatic environment are really tough. Even with an attack bonus +3, it was very easy for them to get flanking bonuses and skirmish damage pretty much every round. Unbelievably tough fight and if I hadn't fudged some rolls toward the end to keep them alive, it would have been a TPK. Normally I don't like to do that, but I didn't want the entire party dead and adding the Crocodile to the encounter was my fault and almost made the fight impossible for them.

This has been one fierce adventure, and looking ahead to Bullywug's Gambit, the first part of it looks like a real meat grinder too. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

Thanks for the recommendation; I'll have to check it out. In the meantime, I've got the mechanics down (an actual game of chemin-de-fer: not as good meta-game-wise, but a lot of fun), but I still lack the campaign "fluff" at this point. I'll just keep an eye out for a good place later in the AP to insert a game of chance against Vanthus (the players are guttons for looking the big baddie in the face before knocking him off).


PC: Annah Jareth, Female Human Rogue 1/Fighter 2
Adventure: The Bullywug Gambit
Location of Death: K5 of Kraken Cove
Catalyst: Pouncing savage deinonychus

Long Description: On the trail of Vanthus Vanderboren, Annah and her companions Samantha Quickblade, Zan, and the reincarnated Grael headed east to Kraken's Cove. However, they found the place overrun by hideously mutated creatures with a taste for flesh. In one chamber filled with hanging silks, the party was surprised by a twisted deinonychus that leaped out from behind cover. It pounced on Samantha, rendering her unconscious. Before anybody could react, the beast turned on Annah and tore into her, also laying her low. Zan managed to heal Annah a bit, and she got up to attack the creature again. Unfortunately, it retaliated and disembowled her with its large talons. Annah died, but her heroic sacrifice gave Zan enough time to get Samantha back on their feet. The remaining combat was long and brutal, but in the end the other adventurers barely managed to prevail.

Scarab Sages

Event similar to Brent's. Zombies feasted on dying Druid's animal companion. Group was also fortunate that the fighter decided at last minute to leave her sword behind and take her rapier instead.


PC: Zathrus, Tiefling Wizard1
Adventure: There is No Honor
Location of Death: One foot of urchin strewn seawater
Catalyst: One foot of urchin strewn seawater and bad luck

Zathrus the wizard wanted to be useful. So when someone with good balance was needed to head out into the surging seawater of the tunnel to see where it led, Zathrus volunteered. Casting mage armor on himself, he managed to make it out of sight before finally failing to stay upright in the water. Zathrus then proceded to fail three reflex saves and two more balance checks, despite having 18 Dex. Each time he fell in the urchins, they dealt max damage (3) to him. He died, drowned in one foot of seawater, an unused potion of cure light wounds drifting from his hand (because he chose to try to stand and retrieve the potion from his pouch, instead of staying prone, retrieving the potion, and quaffing it).


Wow, that's gotta suck. I can't wait to DM STAP so I too can kill my players with sea urchins.

I had my first real PC death last weekend.

PC: Lia, Halfling Spellthief Lvl 4
Adventure: The Bullywug's Gambit
Location: The hallways outside of K2 in the cave complex at Kracken's Cove
Catalyst: Ripclaw's free bite attack and acid splatter after being killed.

The party had entered the cave complex and were exploring the kitchen when the ran into the Savage Pirates. They decided to flee into the hallways to make it such that the pirates could only get at them one at a time. They put their melee fighter up front and and spellcasters in the rear. The noise attracted the attention of Ripclaw who came at the party from behind. In a valiant effot to save the Archivist and Sorcerer of the group, the Lia tumbled into the creatures path and went toe to toe with it for nearly 5 rounds. Using a spell to make Ripclaw flat footed, Joss the party's warblade tumbled through Ripclaws square and helped to fight it. On the fifth round of the fight, Lia was dropped to negative HP's by ripclaws attack but wasn't yet dead. When the Sorcerer used a scorching ray to finish him, he took his free bite attack on Lia dropping her to within 5 hp of true death but then when he erupted in acid, I rolled max damage on the 1d6 and being unconscious Lia was unable to roll a reflex save to avoid the damage. Her heroic sacrifice kept Ripclaw from gaining easy access to the Archivist and Sorcerer likely saving their lives as she had more HP than either and better AC. Her valiant sacrifice will long be remembered by the survivors of the battle.

On a related note, the first part of Bullywug's Gambit is a monstrous meatgrinder. The party nearly lost the Druid to the Savage monkeys after he was infected with Savage fever, and did lose Lia in the caves. On the plus side, the party wants to kill Vanthus worse than ever and he hasn't even made an appearance yet. This is one amazing AP.

Scarab Sages

Had two fatalities last night.

PC: Zavier 2 level Gersalt rogue/cleric of Olidamara.
Adventure: There is no honor
Location: Cruncher' Pen
Catalyst: Cruncher's powerful bite

Zavier attempted to capture a fleeing lotus dragon that led him to Cruncher. He made a desperate attempt to close the door behind him after being bitten once but the worg was hot on his tail. Three total bites proved too much for his system and he bled to death as his companions came to his rescue.

PC: Halkhandtash Psionist 2nd level
Adventure: There is no honor
Location: Cruncher' Pen
Catalyst: Poison potion

Hal, as his friends called him was bitten twice by the worg and incapacitated. The druid attempted to cure light wounds but couldn't summon enough healing energy from oerth to bring Hal from his comatose status. Being clever, he decided to use some potions of healing that the rogue/cleric had purchased from a shady character from the Shadow Shore district. Unbeknownst to him, one of the vials was mixed with a poison that a healthy character could have survived, even if failing a saving throw but not one so near to death.

The rest of the group limped back to Lavina's Manor carrying the remains of their fallen comrades. Now they are trying to decide what would be the best way to seek revenge on the lotus dragons organization and the hated Vanthus Vanderboren. Whom the party was incensed that he was able to trap them under Parrot Island.

Obits--announcing the first PC death in Peruhain's Savage Tide.

Name: Indy Tamberlane (1st level halfling rogue and aspiring Seeker)
Location: The smugglers' tunnels under Parrot Island
Catalyst: A heroic attempt to save his downed comrade from being eaten by ravenous pirate zombies. His comrade survives (barely), but the zombie feeds on halfling tripe and chitterlings before Indy's mates destroy it. *begins shameless plug* Details at 11 in our weekly news feature "Peruhain's Savage Tide." *see campaign log section if you bit the hook on this one*


There is No Honor
Smuggler tunnels under Parrot Island
PC: Capt. Arr Dwarf fighter 2
Catalyst: Zombie munching on his ear (and the rest of him).

Due to some good rolling and guessing on the party's part, they found the tunnels before Vanthus' trap (they talked to the guy from It Still Floats and figured out the island must be the destination and found the path up). They plan on going back and recovering the Dwarf's masterwork Dwarven Axe but still have no idea what's down there except some zombies.

ADVENTURE : there is no honor
Location : The smugglers' tunnels under Parrot Island

Name : Alfred Ladurie (NPC warrior 1st, former thug of Soler Vark charmed, then hired by the PCs).

Catalyst : Alfred went down the tunnels, following his new employers. At the first tunnel after being enclosed down by Vanthus, they heard noises... from the other side the two doors at each end of the tunnels.
The PCs tried to keep the front door closed, but failed to do it, and 2 zombies came from each side of the tunnel.
At the front door, there was the human dragon shaman, the halfling rogue, the bugbear (all 1st level), in the middle the human fighter and the human cleric of Farlanghn, and at the back, ready to shoot with their crossbow, the human mage and the NPC warrior.

The mage and Alfred shoot and missed, the fighter went at the rear, hit (slashing weapon) and missed, while the halfling was trying to hit (with no result since he couldn't bypass the Dam.Red.) along with the dragon shaman (infiltred with a bludgeonning weapon and wounded by an AoO) and the bugbear (slashing weapon).
The cleric was beginning to make turnings (variant : d6 damage per level, thus, d6 damage)
The fighter was grappled by the 1st zombie and hit by the second. Just when the first zombie was releasing him after being destroyed by several turnings, the second one downed him into negatives, but made its will save and went after Alfred.

2 other zombies came from the front, one other at the rear, the halfling was at 0 HP, withdrawing from fight, the dragon shaman, wounded, was still fighting along with the bugbear (greatsword + strength = very efficient vs ravenous zombies), the fighter still bleeding (stabilized at -7 or -8), and one zombie hit Alfred who withdrew from fight.
However, this particular zombie went after Alfred who was hit a 2nd time, went down, and the zombie began its lunch...

After the fight, the halfling rogue took back the 15 gold coins that were given to Alfred as a paiement, in spite of the tripes and gory things on the purse : "money has no odor !"

Fun session !!


Damnit!

Fen Corday, Small Aventi Swordsage 2 (Setting Sun primarily)

That cow with the pet dragon flanked her and knocked her to -11. I was having fun throwing people off of boats. :(

The zombies were rough. The raggadessas rolled poorly or would've had stuffed bellies for sure. The Ixachittle-bangbang-whatchamajiggers nearly had a couple of Aventi for breakfast (we had to run away *_*;). Finally, she was felled by that cow. Luckily Fen's comrades dispatched the offenders afterward.

All right, I feel better for venting. This AP's fun, but it's a meatgrinder. I am seriously surprised that Fen has been the only death so far. We'll see how long my shifter druid lasts. One batch of exploding fishmen down -- so far, so good.


**Averting eyes from other posts**

Have loved reading the AoW obituary posts, but have had to avoid reading the ST thread for fear of spoilers, since I'm a player in this campaign. Still, I couldn't help but post this "near obituary" from my group, involving, of course, my PC...

PC: Kith-Kiran (aquatic half-elf warblade 1)
Adventure: first campaign adventure
Location: tunnels beneath Parrot Island
Catalyst: nasty super zombie + tempting the gods!

Our party had just fought off a total of four of the uber zombies in a large room beneath Parrot island, resulting in no PC deaths but some significant injuries to Kith-Kiran. Anticipating another zombie fight soon (moans could be heard beyond a set of doors that the party had barred shut), Kith asked Kane (living construct barbarian 0/cleric 0 (Fharlanghn)) for some healing, saying "I'm not normally the praying sort, but I'd take a blessing from Iuz if it'd do something for these wounds."

Fharlanghn must not have been pleased, because Kane rolled a "1" on his CLW roll, which obviously did very little for Kith's wounds.

In the subsequent fight against 2 more of the zombies, Fahrlanghn seemed to be angry with Kane for even having attempted to heal Kith - the big construct couldn't score a hit to save his life. Or, as it nearly turned out, Kith's life! Although the party dispatched one of the zombies relatively quickly, the second one managed a critical hit on the blasphemous half-elf, nearly tearing his throat out, and leaving the warblade at -9 hp. Fortunately, Sam Goodfyne (halfling rogue 1), who was at 0 hp, stumbled over to Kith's bleeding body and used his last efforts to make a heal check (a natural 20), stabilizing the warblade just before he fell unconscious.

Clearly, Fahrlanghn was trying to teach Kith a lesson: he allowed just enough healing to keep the half-elf alive in the zombie battle, while delivering enough of a scare to keep him from ever again equating a blessing from the Watcher on the Horizon with one from a half-demon demigod!


Name: Abel Ichabod, Human
Class: Swashbuckler 4
Session: Pre-Sea Wyvern, Side Quest
Catalyst: Ogre Warlord+Amazing Rolls

The PC's had recently taken on the quest of retriving a rare tome from the temple of Chekital (Old Olman Temple), sadly some ogre/orc cultists had taken up residence in the top floor. Barely making it past the rest of the floor they finally came upon the ogre warlord and his shaman. They fared well for the first two rounds, sadly Abel met his end when a 18 and 19 were rolled by myself. Also the maximum damage and an already injured Abel ended his life at a whopping negative 26 hitpoints.


PC: Osborn - Human Shadow Caster lv. 4
Adventure: Bullywug Gambit
Location of Death: The Sandy Cove of Blood Bay's Kracken Cove
Catalyst: Savage Fever

Our first PC death come to us at the hands of illness. Once the signs of infection showed - Osborn, in a fit of panic hid himself away in the jungle, he was able to conceal himself so well that none could find him as he slowly de-evolved and slipped into madness and paranoia. The party searched into the night but eventually had to give up and return to the Fishing boat and recruit a replacement. They spent the next day clearing out the cove, and when they returned to the boat they found their companion near the cliffs babbling nonsense and covered in a horrific rash...

They we able to get him back to the boat, on the way back he slipped into a coma and began a horrific transformation. In an attempt to gain their companions sanity back the party Cleric poured two potions of Lesser restoration down his mouth. Unfortunately this brought fourth a monster. They now had to fight their companion to the death as he nearly killed the cleric (-2) and had already killed one fisherman out right.

He eventually fell under a hail of steel brought fourth by the fighter.

All in all it was an awesome role-playing session and the whole party was stunned, and excited about how this path is twisting.

Now my player is rolling up an new Character: apparently he is going for a high fort save ;)

OK. That was wierd. I posted and it simply vanished in the ether. What the hell?
Well, anyway, last session's fatality was one of my players new PCs after just retiring his bard the session previous.

PC: Gradik, Half-orc fighter/cleric (Kord)- not sure of levels (total of 4)
Adventure: The Bullywug Gambit
Location of Death: Area V26, Vanderboren Manor
Catalyst: Two vicious hits from Drevoraz's scimitar used two-handed.

DM's Description: Drevoraz stepped up to Gradick and attacked twice. Both attacks hit. One was a confirmed crit. The damage dealt was something around 40 points (30 from his damage modifier alone!!!). He was dead before he hit the ground.


The Fallen: Kel Cleric of the drowned god (homebrew diety based on the George RR martin god of the same name)
Bujir: 1/2 orc barbarian
Catalyst: Rav. Zombies, crappy tunring checks and some big ole' crabs.

IN that first hall i had three rav zombies attack-- 2 from the right and 1 round later 1 from the left. I fiugured 5 PC's with a cleric could handle 3 zombies. I was WRONG.
OK--so after 2 failed tuning checks the rav zombie on the left fell upon the cleric and began feasting on his still pumping internal organs. The zombie was surrounded by the mage and druid as it ate, taking probably 5 AOO's before it finally found and devoured the clerics heart. It then stood up (more worthless AOO's) and started to bite the druid before the barbarian came over to end that nonsense. The swashbuckler and barbarian were busy with the oter two on the right earler.

Suprisingly, the hecuva which they found in the eastern caverns was not much of a problem--The wizard toughed up and hit the hecuva with a nicely rolled shocking grasp, The barbarian got enlarged and his (now) 3d6 great axe + str made quick work of the softnrd up evil cleric. Although the "noble" swashbuckler failed his save vs fear and spent the whole battle running.........

T'was the crabs that did Bujir in. He saw the body floating in the water, went in to get it and was grappled by multiple rending crabs. End of story.

Well our party's leader finally lost his life (for the last time) tonight and it wasn't pretty to say the least. We had heard the Slaad appear and rushed to figure out what was up, and Valu was first on the scene...Well the slaad unloaded on him for the first round but Valu got lucky and took little damage, so I guess he got cocky. The round after the next he was alone in the room again after the Dwarven Barbarian backed out to get some healing, so he was unloaded on again this time, and the final hit was an extremely ridiculous crit hit that decapitated the poor bastard...

sad thing it is...his first voyage as captain, first encounter on the ship, and he loses his life. Now my character, being the previous first mate must take command of the ship...but oh well, the next encounter with the flotsam ooze was a TPK!!

Alas, poor noble-born Tanthalas, he forgot the lesson about tumbling away from thine enemies with many deadly ripping attacks (not much help against pouncing critters anyway). At least, only now is he safe from the deadly affliction coursing through his body... We hope. Er, Big Mikko, pass me the torch. And some oil. Sigh.

Catalyst: A really pissed off will-o-wisp and a split party.

After Sutolore was killed, the will-o-wisp attacked. Feeling useless in the fight since he couldn't DO anything, Syn stormed out to wait outside for the rest of the fight. After getting knocked down to 5 hps, the will-o-wisp retreated. Forced from it's home again, the angry will-o-wisp stumbled across the still fuming warlock, and set upon him with a vengeance.

Class: Favored Soul 6
Area: Tamoachan
Catalyst: Mummy Dust trap

While the warlock was outside getting killed, the party continued their explorations of the tomb. When the pyramid-shaped coffin was opened, Larat failed his save and contracted Mummy Rot. Despite his best attempts to cast restorative and healing magics, he succombed and turned to dust three days later.

James, your adventure seems to be quite deadly (my group only lost 1 NPC, and they're heading toward the taxidermist's hall).

Well, I've finally started the STAP, and already we have one character death. Fortunately it was a DMPC: one of my players wasn't able to make it, so I quickly created Pashook, the darfellan barbarian. He didn't last long.

Seperated from his friends above decks, Pashook quickly dispatched two thugs and was confronted by a fire and a ravenous pony-sized spider. He charged at the spider and got one good hit in before being grappled and nibbled on. Echo, the dwarven cleric, managed to heal some of his wounds, but in the end the vicious jaws of the vermin were too much and Pashook lost his head. Literally.

JONKIN NINGEL {3rd level Gnome Rogue}

Jonkin perished in the chimney of a halfling Lotus Dragon (named Pick-Pick) that the group had been seeking out. The halfling survived the attack on the LD Den and had, in an earlier encounter, led a group of other LD's in a ambush against one of the other PCs when the group didn't pay attention to the LD warning to stay away.

Jonkin and Pick-pick got into a messy struggle in the chimney, which had been designed for a small PC to use as a secret way into Pick-pick's home.

The PC who had been ambushed managed to find his stolen stuff (as Pick-pick had his men string the PC up onto a statue, upside down and naked). Among those items recovered were his familiar.

BTW, Pick-Pick helped kill JONKIN (the fall did the rest) and got to the roof, just as the Swashbuckler did, too. The swashbuckler Criticaled his Bull Rush, which sent Pick-pick plummeting to his death.


i had two last night, an NPC and a PC rogue.

i have just started the STAP, and the party fell for the parrot island gambit, hook line and sinker. we ended the game last week when they had just been put in the tunnels, and last night I ran the parrot island session. they had hired an NPC cleric for more healing power prior to going into the tunnels. the rogue in the party, an elf, went to the first door, tried to listen and rolled a 1. he didn't hear anything. so he stepped blindly through, into the long hallway and three ravenous zombies standing near the door.
they fell on him and in one round all of them grappled and bit him, taking him down to -4 hp.
The fighter barged in, axe-a-swingin, and barely inflicted even a harmful wound. then the cleric came out, tried a turn undead, and failed to do anything. during thier next round, two zombies finished eating the rogue, and one even ripped off the rogue's arm to use it as a club.

later, on finding more zombies, and finally thier boss the huecuva, the npc cleric tried to turn undead yet again, but didn't do enough to turn the main guy. that's when he used "cause fear" on the cleric, and he failed his save, ran away into another room and fell into the pool with the giant crabs. it was a horror show after that. let's just say those crabs had a great feast. so, finally the group found the elemental gem, but at the cost of 2 party members, and near about all of it's resources. all of the pcs were out of spells, running low on arrows, and horrible dents and bite marks in armor, that needs to be mended.

now, more than ever, these guys want to see vanthus killed, in the most horrible and brutal way possible.

James, this adventure is great stuff for a DM. you must love killing PCs.
