Age of Worms Adventure Path

1 to 50 of 242 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | next > last >>

Race, class, levels and more if you feel so inclined.

All 1st-level humans. A rogue, paladin, monk, and cleric/wizard. Starting tonight.

Scarab Sages

Here it is, halfway through Hall of Harsh Reflections

Lilo- Halfling Bard 3/ Rogue 4
Rendspar- Elven Wizard 7 ( heading to Force Missile Mage )
Cyric- Human Hexblade 7
Giselle- Human Cleric 3/ Paladin of Heironeous 4

A neat party, all can cast magic of some sort. I allowed them to roll stats, rather than point buy, and the lowest points are 34 for Rendspar, 36 for Lilo, 40 for Cyric, and 44 for Giselle. They are pretty tough. Have not had a death yet, but have had them beaten up pretty badly.

We're only part way through The Whispering Cairn (the last session stopped just as they barged through the front door to the Observatory).

Quint - Human Barbarian 2. AKA "Bobo". Quint grew up in the swamps south of Diamond Lake, so he's had some experience with the politics of lizardfolk tribes.

Mumbles - Human Rogue 2. Mumbles works as an errand boy for Chaum Gansworth. He's gotten some time off to go adventuring. I'm not sure if Mumbles intends to return to work or not. I'm hoping it does - Gansworth's stance between Smenk and Tilgast could prove interesting.

Harvey - Human Sorcerer 2 (possibly planning to become a Spellfire Wielder). Harvey USED to work for the Emporium, until one night when he decided to take his cut of the night's income in the form of a map leading to the Whispering Cairn.

Elishaba - Elf Druid 2. Eli usually hangs around with the Bronzewood Lodge, but decided to join her drinking buddies when the prospect of adventure came along. There's a slight rift with her and a few members of the Lodge over her decision to raise the young owlbear....we'll just have to see how that turns out.

The group has just left the Cairn to go bury Alastor's bones:

Blaze - Female Elf WarMage 2
Whisper - Male Half-orc Barbarian 2
Blaidd Drwg - Male Human Rogue 2
Branwyn - Female Human Witch 2
Reggie Ano - Male Gnome Bard 2
Zelgadis - Male Human Druid 2
Niv - Male Human Fighter 2
Torgesh - Male Half-orc Barbarian 2
Rubin - Male Human Wizard 2

Our Age of Worms campaign is in the World of Greyhawk. The players I judge for have the following characters:

Alexandros, human evoker 4
Elumalai, wood elf fighter 2/ranger 2
Fenklen, gnome cleric 4 (all gnomish deities)
Helder, human cleric 4 (Pelor)
Mira, human female rogue 4
Stuuden, exalted halfling monk 3/paladin 1

The party has two too many clerics for me and one less fighter than I'd prefer. But, they do very well. I use the "Scaling the Adventure" sidebars to boost the campaign to the next average character level with six players. It has worked out very well so far. They shall finish Vecna's Labrynth and be done with The Three Faces of Evil this week.

Caleb - Halfling Ftr2 - real strong, real dumb. Left the shire to go adventuring, ran out of cash, found himslef in Diamond Lake and signed on to work in Smenk's mines. Anecdote: When the party was fleeing the acid beetle swarm, he saw the Mad Slasher emerge and decided it'd make a good trophy and attacked it. He went down quickly requiring a rescue by . . .

Grainger - Halfling Drd2 - Cousin of Caleb, he and his Riding Dog companion "Tiny" came to Diamond Lake to investigate unnatural creatures in the cairn hills and to visit his cousin. When Caleb decided to attack the Mad Slasher, Grainger chased after him on dog-back. After unsuccessfully grappling the conscious fighter, he was able finally to drag his unconscious cousin away from the swarm and the slasher. The slasher was dispatched by . . .

Peregrine - Human Rog2 - A resident of Diamond Lake, her father was injured several years ago in a mining accident in one of Smenk's mines. His injuries leave him unable to work. Therefore, she seeks treasure to help her family escape destitution in Diamond Lake. Friend to Caleb and Severious (see below). She provided arrow support for Caleb in his ill-advised attack on the slasher. The party's escape was also covered by. . .

Severious - Human Rog1/Sor1 - Severious had always been haunted by visions and strange happenings. An urchin left on the steps of teh Garrison, he was raised as the captain's eyes-and-ears in Diamond Lake, keeping tabs on the mine managers and making sure the ore keeps flowing. At the tiem theyu were fleeing the swarm, he was only Rog1.

So far, so good. This is as close to an iconinc party (Ftr/Rog/Wiz/Clr) as I have run a game for in a long time. so far the group is having fun, but is a little taken aback at the danger level of the Cairn. I warned them . . .

Chris

The group I run is as follows.

Halfling rogue lvl 5 - she the scout and quick as can be.

Elf monk lvl 5 - from the Twilight Monastary and the main fighter of the group

Human wizard lvl 5 (soon to be of the Arcane Order) - son of a rich family and acts like it. He is the brains of the outfit.

Human cleric lvl 5 - follower of the god of twilight, his specialty in knowledge and trickery has been a great help.

This group is interesting for me since they are almost all finesse. The use a lot of stealth and often they will have dropped half the enemies before they knew what hit them. For all the planning and plotting they do, they have moved pretty quickly through the modules.

Our group is almost through 3 Faces having gone straight from the battle temple to the Vecna maze. They are about halfway through the caves of slaughter.

"Ding"-Halfling Rogue 3/Wizard 1
Brenna- Human Barbarian 4
Cyrus- Xeph Soulknife 4
Ahlaine- Human Fighter 4 (with Vow of Poverty)
Goran- Human Cleric (of Kord)2 / Fighter 1
Quinlan- Human Ranger 4

The group in mostly Chaotic Good and each had decided to follow Kord on their own. Imagine our surprise when we gathered the party for the first time to discover that they had all picked the same deity including the cleric!
So far they are doing rather well dispite their lack of arcane spell power. This has been my first experience with the Vow of Poverty and it has worked just fine. Having a fighter take the vow has been very interesting as he is using all his feats to improve his quarterstaff and unarmed combat abilities.

What is Xeph? I am an old-timer, and know not what this means...

Scarab Sages

The party for our run of Age of Worms is a little large and more than a little large

We have a 1st level human paladin of Dol Arrah
a 1st level kalashtar soulknife, both from associated with the garrison,
an 1st level elven ninja and a 0-level fighter/0-level dwarven totemist from the Twilight monastary,
two mage types from the Emporium.
The first is a hermaphrodite 1/2 elf who is a healer using a slightly different form of magic than most and the second is an over-sexed prostitute who uses the same form of magic. The last is a 1st level human scholar.

The two from the Emporium use a form of magic that taxes the user's stamina. The scholar is a class focusing primarily on skills but gain other abilities along with a knowledge skill similar to bards. Both classes are borrowed from another d20 book

All third level:

Frangelica: Female Human Spiked-chain wielding swashbuckler
Morgan: Male Human Warlock aka baneful spiderman
Sevored: Male Half-orc Barbarian ""ugggh...."
Jack: Male-Human cleric 2/rogue 1 "Back in Cormanthor..."
Ren: Dwarf Wizard "don't talk to me"

Another new race (*gasp* no really?!) introduced in 3.xE, in particular the Expanded Psionics book. Basically human for all intents and purposes with an affinity for psionics. They are pretty similar in appearance to a Baklunish crossed with a Gith.

Scarab Sages

Ahhh..that explains it...I remember when I started gaming, we had to walk to school, with no shoes, in snow up to our armpits, uphill, both ways..and we LIKED it...LOL..or in the words of Abe Simpson, "we tied an onion to our belts, a yellow onion..then we stared at the sun until our eyeballs melted"

We are using the World of Greyhawk. Based on numerous posts I've read regarding the adventure path (and previous experience with Dungeon adventures) I ran the group through a mini-adventure to level them up to 2nd before starting them on Whispering Cairn. They start WC this coming Saturday. Here's the party composition:

Malik: Male Human Sorcerer 2. The player is new to RPGing, and is basically just doing his best to support the group for now. I hope to see him start to develop more of a personality and agenda for his character in the near furture.

Gilydin (sp?): Male Halfling Rogue 2. This player has very limited tabletop experience. Most of his RPG experience is from MMORPGs, and it shows in his reliance on RPG stereotypes. However, he's putting a real effort into developing a distinct character personality, and actually role-playing it.

Spag: Male Half-Orc Fighter 2. This player has gobs of RPG experience, but made a conscious decision to play a stereotype, because of a single (very) low roll during character creation. His big dumb brute of a character has a very well developed personality, has provided a good deal of laughter (and embarassment) in social situations, but moves to the forefront during combat, where he's proven himself invaluable.

Silas Book: Male Human Rogue 1/Cleric of St. Cuthbert 1. This player has the most experience in the group, next to myself. He lists Shepard Book (from Firefly/Serenity) and Sayid (from Lost) as his inspirations for this character (more the later than the former). Unbeknowst to the other characters, Silas used to work for the Free City military/government as an "information gathering" specialist. He has also emerged as the strongest personality, and the party's leader. (He is also my accomplice for Hall of Harsh Reflections.)

We may be gaining one more player, who I believe wants to play a Paladin. Which should prove interesting if Silas' true past ever comes to light.

Scarab Sages

Run in Greyhawk (592cy)-all first level

Angar the Screamer h Fighter
Centurius Abraxas h Paladin (Hieronius)
D'Wylde h Druid (Obad Hai)
Harokynne 1/2e Ranger
Seutonia Po h Mage
Valkynn Radd e Thief

1st session was spent on 2 side treks to get everyone close to 2nd level before entering the Whispering Cairn. the thief is an NPC.

all began 1st level & had them roleplay getting together and gathering info about the Cairn w/ the help of a buddy PC.

male human/rogue "juggler" @ the Emporium
male human/wizard apprentice of Allustan
male human cleric of Heironious stationed @ the Garrison
female elf/druid of the Bronzewood Lodge/guide for the Garrison

-later added another on the way to the Land Farmstead,
male/dwarf fighter cousin to one of the Greysmere's/Mercenary for the Garrison

We ran through the 'introducing the party' scenario set in the Fane mining office that was posted here some time back (should be searchable if you use the key word 'ugloop') last night. We have:

Aethelwulf, human fighter 1; boyfriend of Constance Grace whose son has disappeared whilst playing in the hills above Diamond Lake. The scenario kicked off beautifully as he met the rest of the party on the road out of Diamond lake and saw a small figure getting stooped on by stirges in the distance...

Martina, human sorceror 1; shaping up to be the party leader and driving force behind the group. Rapidly tiring of her magic act at the Emporium (and also being groped by drunken miners) she is looking for cash to afford to get out of town. Coincidentally, her ten year old brother recently skipped town with the beastmaster from the Emporium.

Enys, human druid 1; Nogwier had been receiving reports of unkillable undead and green worms from his scouts and sent Enys into Diamond Lake to consult with Allustan. He happened to meet Martina in Allustan's garden and they decided strength in numbers was a better plan.

Enid aka (various), changeling rogue 1; working as a barmaid in the Emporium (under the name Suzana) allowed Enid to eavesdrop and pick up all sorts of rumours and schemes. When Martina and Enys sat down in the Emporium to plan their expedition, Enid overheard and told them she knew someone who might be helpful. Returning a few hours later in different clothes, she introduced herself as Alethia and talked the other two into letting her come along for a share of the profits.

Next week, into the adventure proper.

Running in Greyhawk, and with only 3 players, so I gave them better-than-average ability rolls and started them at 2nd level. They all chose basic races. They've gained levels quickly going through the WC with just the 3 of them, and are now 3rd level.

Sylphane (Elf Sorcerer 3) - Because she has the taint of a red dragon's blood (has taken two of the Draconic Heritage feats from the Draconomicon), Sylphane was basically shunned among the elves of Celene, and sent by her family to serve in a menial role as an arcane bodyguard for Ellival Moonmeadow, a distant cousin in Diamond Lake; it's a role she's well-suited for, considering her penchant for fire magic (plans to go into the Elemental Savant PrC). She seeks to hone her abilities and acquire the money to leave DL and find her own fate.

Raven Silvermane (Elf Ranger 3) - A wandering warrior/mystic who venerates the Dragon Father, Io. He has received prophetic dreams about a young elven female with the potential to become a champion of both elf and dragon kind, and knows that they both will play pivotal roles in a dark time looming on the horizon. Now that he has found her, he believes it is his duty to help her unlock her potential and stop an age of darkness and decay that threatens all life, from the lowest animal to the mightiest dragon.

Sister Remy (Monk 2/Cleric 1 of Xan Yae) - A member of the Twilight Monastery and one of the very few members of that order who began her life as a priestess of the Lady of Perfection. In a kalamanthis-induced meditation, she witnessed a prophetic vision of the age of worms, wherein she and all her brothers and sisters walked as twisted mockeries of life, infested with worms and decay. When she spoke to the head of her order, she was told she bore witness to the coming of a time of a great unbalancing, when all things would slip from perfection and into decay. She was told to go forth to Diamond Lake and seek out two elves: one a mistress of flame and the other a servant of dragons. Their path would become hers, and she must make certain they do not waver.

OK, you guys have shamed me into more description.

Hyde the monk was raised an orphan in the Twilight Monastery just outside town. Having never left Daggerford, he is beginning to chafe under the rigid leadership of the elder monks, a group called the Old Order.

Haya the rogue works as a “bouncer” at the Emporium. When trouble brews, the other employees have learned to distract the miscreant while Haya sneaks up behind them with his “Miner Mugger”, a masterwork sap. The fringe benefits are good, but the pay is lousy.

Romulus the paladin of Helm. Helm's dogma does not sit well with his chaotic nature, and he’s starting to question his faith, not to mention spending all of his meager income and free time in the Feral Dog.

Randalf the White (Randy White ) the aged cloistered cleric is a worshipper of Savras visiting the Cult of the Green Lady, working at the Boneyard. This would naturally depress anyone, and the mage Allustan has just recently offered him an apprenticeship, if he can “prove himself worthy”.

They just got their feet wet (and butts kicked by wolves) last night. Last seen fleeing in sheer terror from a beetle swarm.

Currently on 3 Faces Buffed up for both party size and level. I joined them to the AOW on top of the campaign I was already running. Its a murder mystery of who killed their mentor and the mysterious circumstances around that. The mystery will be tied closely to the AOW plotline reaching a conclusion around adventure number 8.

They consist of:

Rontith LG human Paladin 5
The most unpaladin paladin you would ever meet. He has a lOT of trouble playing it and frequently gets screwed my the stiff alignment rules for paladins

Cohnor LG human Paladin 2 Cleric 3
The "hero" of the group and most idealistic. Does a good job playing a paladin.

Karkus CN Elven Ranger 6
Has racial enemy Humans and pretty much despises them. The mentor took him in trying to curb his murderous tendancies towards humans and half way succeeded. Plays his character very well.

Xzan CG Elven Ranger 4
A new player who hasn't really developed his characters personality. Originally wanted it to be like "Drizzt" but that was quickly shot down by the rest of the group. :)

Taliviir CG Human Sorceror 6
The only other pc still living from Campaign beginning besides Karkus, he is a quite and sneaky battlemage.

Brix Dwarf Cleric 2/Psi-warrior 1
Veteran player but new to the campaign. Plays a gruff no nononsense father figure. Frequently tells everyone the error of their foolish ways. Also is the one that is best at getting information and advancing the storyline.

Female Halfling Rogue 2 - barmaid at the emporium, part time only.

Female Human Cleric of Pelor 2 - apprenticed to the Osgood smithy until the Halfling (adopted sister) talked her into investigating the cairn. Extremely paranoid and twitchy

Female Goliath Barbarian 1 - was working as a bouncer in the Feral Dog until approached about being muscle for the group going into the Whispering Cairn

Male Half-Elf Cleric of Heironeous - stationed with the garrison

Male Elf Necromancer - apprenticed to Allustan, steers clear of the Wee Jas cultists. Has a skeleton companion (variant from UA)

Sovereign Court

The party is currently in the free city after taking care of the doppleganger problem. They are still searching for the mind flayer lair.

Sayla Paylandera-3rd level human Paragon/6th level cleric of Zodal/1st level Combat Medic with vow of poverty. Sayla was a "doctor" at the midnight salute brothel caring for the prostitutes while trying to convince them to change their ways and be redeemed in society. She joined the group after learning that she might use treasures discovered in the Whispering Cairn to help her build a hospital in Diamond Lake to better care for the citizens.

Eldon, the Jade Fox-4th level rogue/3rd level Halfling Paragon/3rd level Dread Commando. A worshipper of Olidimmara, Eldon left Elmshire for Diamond lake as part of his "World Walk", looking for treasure and gifts to bring back to his family. After getting a job working for Smenk, Eldon discovered an old map to the whispering cairn and decided to go into business for himself. After taking control of the abandoned mine office, Eldon gathered the members of the party for the journey into the cairn. After Smenks arrest, Eldon gained the employ of Kullen's gang. A selfish theif, Eldon has been secretly stealing portions of all treasure found in the various temples and dungeons from the other members of the party.

Jeb-3rd level Ranger (from the Black Company campaign setting), 3rd level Human Paragon, 4th level Weapon Master (Black Company). Jeb is not from the World of Greyhawk. After stepping through an unusual fog bank, Jeb found himself along the banks of the Nyr Dyv. Moving south into Diamond Lake, Jeb discovered the party while the halfling, Eldon, was hiring "muscle" to escort him back into the whispering cairn. Jeb fights with an unusually designed bladed gauntlet and has made quick friends with the champion of the free city after a sparring match in Diamond Lake (after 3FoE).

Cirramore Ohamasford xvii-9th level wizard. Cirramore comes from a long line of wizards and a proud noble family from Furyondy. Traveling to Diamond Lake to seek knowledge from the wizard Allustan, Cirramore was recommended to Eldon and Sayla after their discovery of the "Green Worm" found in Filge's laboratory. Cirramore has provided the group with arcane might and lore, but the surly wizard is in it for the knowledge, not the "good".

Greyson wrote:
The party has two too many clerics for me ...

I'll take one!

My group just started recently and is still in the Whispering Cairn. The line-up looks something like this.

Rathemyr - Male Halfling Rogue 2, who despite wandering about alone, seems to have Tymora watching over him. He’s pretty handy with a dagger to boot, and isn't afraid to use his skills to earn a little extra cash on the side.

Veldore Silvertongue - Male Half-elf Rogue 1 / Hexblade 1, a dealer at the emporium and a compulsive gambler. Carries a MW Pistol made by some local gnomes. Veldore often works with Rathemyr on any number of cons and scams.

Quills - Female Human Wizard 2, apprenticing with Allustan, and an accomplished tattoo artist, both mundane and magical. Allustan's favourite of his two current apprentices, Quills is way ahead of the curve in her training.

Tark Macerock - Male Dwarf Fighter 2, fights with a spiked chain and an attitude, and is surprisingly agile for a dwarf. Tark enjoys tripping his foes and putting the beats on them while they are down.

Finrod Isilra - Male Elven Ranger 1, who always seems to be late. Finrod is the strong silent type, preferring to let his dual elven lightblades speak for him. When not fighting, he tends to sit back and watch, silently taking it all in.

Cool groups.

We haven't started yet (we're finishing up our current campaign), but the guys have rolled up their PCs. They haven't picked names yet, but I've decided their backstories.

Male moon elf scout 2 - The much older half-brother of the half-orc in the group, he spent time in Waterdeep's City Guard before going on leave to "vacation" in Diamond Lake to investigate the mining there. His father was killed by orc raiders in Ardeep Forest. His half-brother (a half-orc ranger) travels with him, the two splitting their time between stays in Diamond Lake and extended periods in the wild hunting and observing the landscape and wildlife alongside their lizarfolk companion.

Male half-orc (the other half is moon elf) ranger of Fenmaril Menstarine 2 - The younger brother to the scout, his father was a nameless orc marauder. The brute raped and nearly killed the elven mother, but she refused to kill the child growing inside her. She died during childbirth, but close relatives and his older half-brother (the above scout) reared him to adulthood. A hunter-tracker by trade, his favored enemy is undead, seeing them as the foulest blight on nature.

Male lizardfolk druid of Meilikki 1 - This one is an outcast of the Mistmarsh lizard tribe. He is one of Shukak's many sons, but he was forced to flee the tribe when his mother (one of Shukak's harem) discovered Kyuss worms in the egg chamber. She was sacrificed by the shaman, and the young druid fled for his life, not out of despair for losing his mother, but out of fear for his life, nothing more. Months later, after stumbling across a half-orc hunter and an elf scout, a friendship was formed. After spending time with these two and seeing their bond, hearing their story, the lizardfolk soon realized that he had been greatly wronged by Shukak and the shaman. He seeks to return and avenge his mother, who he now sees as having acted only to prevent something terrible, something that still might wipe out the lizardfolk of the Mistmarsh.

Male aasimar monk 1 - A student of the Twilight Monastary and a follower of Oghma, this god-touched martial artist's origins are unknown. Having been left at the doorstep of the monastary some twenty years ago, the disciples there saw his arrival as a great sign. The resulting product does not disappoint. This one, though young and adventursome, has some grand role to play in his lifetime.

The aasimar has met the elf and the half-orc in Diamond Lake in the past. The aasimar is also an acquaintance of Allustan, who asks the monk if he knows anyone who might embark on a trip to the Whispering Cairn. This brings the four together, as the monk suggests the elf and the half-orc, while those two bring the lizardfolk along (with his crocodile animal compaion). Should be cool. Babalar Smenk will come into play when the PCs investigate the happenings in the mines (which provide Waterdeep with much-needed ore).

I also plan on working Sons of Gruumsh in there somehow, with several orc-based side quests involving the City Guard and its members who operate outside the city, in the regions surrounding Waterdeep.

We are currently doing AoW in Eberron. we have actually been on Whispering Cairn for about 4 sessions. I bumped it up quite a bit, adding ettercaps, filchers and giant spiders liberally, as minions of the Faceless Ones looking for a key to unleashing the Overgod.
We are playing in the Eldeen reaches, so we have:
Vaedon, Priest of Dol Dorn, Human Level 5.
Lore, Halfling House Jorasco healer of Boldrei, level 4 soon to be a Prelate of Jorasco (healer prestige class we invented)
Xanaphia, Elven Warmage from House Vadalis, Level 5
R'Shiel, Warrior of Valenar, Level 5, soon to be Favored in House Medani
We also have an "NPC", a Warforged Paladin, named Dol 8, of DOl Arrah, Level 5. he's NPC now because the player dropped and since we were in the middle of an adventure he is being played out till the end of it. Warforged by the way completely change adventuring and resting periods. Who need to watch? The warforged doesnt sleep! hehe
And a sometimes player of a level 4 Shifter Eldeen Ranger, Yu Long, Warden of the Woods. He only plays once in a great while though, so may not really be considered in the adventure path.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

The party is currently in Three Faces of Evil, having just started the adventure.

Halfling Assassin 3 (core class from Thieves' World Players Guide)
1/2 Elf Cleric of Nerull 3
Gnome Bard 2
Human Scout 3
1/2 Elf Sorcerer 2
1/2 Orc Barbarian 3 (now dead)

The group tried bribing their way into Dourstone's mines, but paid very little and Cultist guards at the gate didn't go for it. They let the group in, but not before alerting the temple of Hextor below.

After dealing with the door guards and skeletons, the party found 'The Beast' which was released by the cultists. Beast pretty much annihalated the party, killing the half-orc and dropping everyone into single digit hit points before being killed.

Balabar Smenk sent them into the mine after the cults, hoping that the party would be destroyed in the process of exploration. But just in case they survived, Smenk hired three assassins to follow the group into the mines (the PCs brought them along, thinking that Smenk hired them for extra muscle) and finish the job if the cultists don't do it first.

Currently, the group is trying to retreat from the cultists back to the elevator shaft, where the assassins will turn on them. Should be interesting.

We play AoW @ Eberron. All PCs are 1st level and we are @ session two in the Cairn (where my group barely managed to not get killed by the screaming mouth trap :-))

female Kalashtar Psion (Telepath) - raised by a human family in Diamond Lake without knowledge of her heritage or her race in particular.

male Gorebrute Shifter Druid - member of the bronzewood lodge

female Changeling rogue - worked as a table dancer at Purple Rose´s; she often changed faces/places with Constance (also working there) who is also a changeling. Unfortunatly this brought the PC in the position to errously get in the line of Constance´s would be assassins.

male personality warforged fighter - former bouncer of the Emporium

male human wizard - apprentice of Allustan

male Valenar elf "samurai" - wielding a legacy double scimitar; formerly one of Moonmeadow´s (the prince) six guards.

female human cleric of Dol Arrah - member of the Dol Arrah church @ the garrsion; expert with the halberd using improved trip tactics

Jemini, human 11th fighter, 4th tempest
Eleazar, elven 9th ranger, 6th deepwood sniper
Hogarth, dwarven 13th barbarian
Kane, human 14th monk
Terra, human 13th sorceress
I'm also making everyone take one level of gladiator for winning the Championship Belt.
So far, we haven't run up against anything we couldn't handle, except for the demon in this last adventure - only one is good alignment, so that was challenging. But I have had to beef up the bad guys and the treasure to allow for the higher PC levels.
On a related note, are other parties gaining levels faster than the adventure progression calls for? Jemini and Eleazar were 3rd level, everyone else was 1st when we started the Whispering Cairn, and we haven't run through any extra adventures. Thanks.

Shannai Morgan, CG, Rogue lvl 2, Half-Elf
Calen the Green, CG, Wizard 1/Cleric 1, Human
The Mysterious Traveler, N, Ranger(CW) 2, Half-Elf
Jensen Bane, LG, Paladin 2, Human
Worgan Axegripper, CG, Fighter 2, Dwarf
Lina, LE, Monk 2, Human

All are from various locations in Diamond Lake except the monk and ranger.

Eleazar,.. My characters started at 3rd and 4th and are now around 4th or 5th. I have upped some mmonsters too, but don't feel they are [rogressing to fast. How in god's name did your pc's get to where they are so fast, and where did they start? IS the adventure at all challenging th this point? My PC's are actually pretty hard to hurt, especially with 2 powerful clerics. And anything the paladin or fighter can;t kill the warmage nukes.... I'd like to hear mroe fof what you are doing over there.
Fee.

I keep it challenging by bumping up the bad guys, which has worked pretty well. As one example, in Champion's Belt for the fight with the frogemoth I bumped up its hit points, speed, AC, and gave it 20/adamantine DR, and fudged its rolls as needed to make sure the fighter got grabbed and swallowed. For Auric's team, I made his flesh golems stone golems, added a 4th, and fudged their rolls to make sure they scored on the party. I enjoy the challenge, and I make the PC's sweat :)
As to how we got here, we started Whispering Cairn as 3rd fighter, 3rd ranger, and 1st for the others. By the time we finished, my 2 3rds were low 5th level and my 1sts were mid-way through 3rd level - all just treasure and XP's - I don't remember having to bump anything up in that adventure.
Anyway, the challenge now will be introducing epic items into the adventures. I don't know how Ilthane is spec'd in A Gathering of Winds, by my Ilthane will be a great wyrm with all the bells and whistles!!!

We are now in Blackwall Keep. The original four party members were given an NPC class level each to start out with, both for backstory purposes and to toughen them up-we use a house-rules critical hit system which can be very dangerous.

Elladen- CN Half-Elf Ranger3/Hexblade3/Noble1
Twin brother to Elrohir, headstrong melee fighter-has maxed out his two-weapon fighting capabilities. Has (werebear)lycanthrope bloodline from his father, an old-skool Ranger24 from Furyondy. Was successfully able to lay his Hexblade Curse on the Ebon Aspect...(3FoE)Member of Bronzewood Lodge and arcane pupil of Allustan.

Elrohir- CN Half-Elf Ranger3/Warlock2/Noble1
Twin brother to Elladen, the more sensitive/contemplative and cautious of the twins (takes after his mother). Enjoys using 'Hideous Blow' warlock eldritch blast ability.Has (werebear)lycanthrope bloodline from his father, an old-skool Ranger24 from Furyondy. Member of Bronzewood Lodge and arcane pupil of Allustan.

Cerevan- LN Drow Cleric4 of St. Cuthbert(Inquisitor)/Warrior1
A former merchant house warrior/flunky from Erelhei Cinlu (the Vault of the Drow), he was taken prisoner in a caravan ambush and used as a porter by surface-based heroes. Later turned over to the Church of Cuthbert, he embraced Law and eventually entered the seminary. He was sent to Diamond Lake to investigate the 'fringe heresy' of Wierus' flagellant congregation, and sees his chaotic comrades as another 'test' of his faith and patience.

Joram- LN Human(Touv)Monk4
A wanderer staying at the Twilight Monastery, the Monk met the group after getting embroiled in the fight with Kullen's gang at the Feral Dog. His streak of bad luck began there when he tripped trying to jump into melee over the bar. It ended when he slew the Faceless One's summoned fiendish dire ape with a thrust to the eye of the 'ancient spear'(3FoE). He sees the Drow as his ethical counterpart and the wildness of the others as a challenge to his discipline.

Trout- CN Tallfellow Halfling Archer3/Rogue2/Expert1
A tactical genius (Int18, veteran player), the halfling is constantly underestimated by his foes. Wields a mighty masterwork composite shortbow made from the demon horns found in the Whispering Cairn. Has crafted his own beetle-carapace breastplate (Exp1-Leatherworker)from one of the beetles slain there also. Is now in 'sniper's wonderland' as he takes on the lizardfolk of Blackwall Keep, the racial enemy he chose at Rgr1 with no foreknowledge of the scenario.

Haakon- CN Deep Dwarf Barbarian3
Cast out of his underdark clan for some unknown transgression, the dwarf was 'given' into the group by the druids of the Bronzewood Lodge, who were caring for him after he was found wandering incoherently in the Cairn Hills. Wild-hearted but wise (Wis16), he seeks a battle priesthood to join while being true to his dwarven roots and at the same time non-lawful. Bravely took on the Faceless One and struck him twice in close combat while only second level.

After breaking through to the tower and slaying many lizardfolk, the heroes are now besieged in Blackwall Keep by the 'second echelon' of 48 Twisted Branch warriors, led by a Scaled Horror (from Savage Species)and including Blackscale and Poison Dusk subraces. Praise St. Cuthbert and pass the ammunition!

Scarab Sages

the new group after a TPK pre Whispering Cairn- Greyhawk-592 cy

Dunwych Stearne human/male Ranger
Gard Battlestromm dwarf/male Priest (Clanggedin) NPC
Heuralte elf/female Fighter
Logan Fortune halfling Thief
Rygg Veda human/male Druid

all are attached in someway to the Bronzewood Lodge...

i'm working with just three players here, so rather than boosting their level i decided to try Gestalt classes, and running the module as written.

so far, i have:
Carawynn McCormic, a Carpenter/Handywoman who happens to have this pesky talent for magic. (Human rogue/wizard)

Crutmaal, an evangelical naturelover from the hills who wanders into diamond lake to preach the evils of civilization. (half-elf Ranger/Druid, planning on Barbarian/Druid levels later)

Jantris, a farmgirl from the diamond lake hinterlands who just couldn't quite fit in at the garrison - she refused to wear armor or bear weapons! (human fighter/monk)

the Graveyard:

Caihanna, a performing bard who happened to annoy the wrong half-orc, and was saved from certain bruising by the man who would later become her benefactor - Elavial Moonmeadow. (elven bard/rogue)

Took the opportunity of a regular gaming session where only 2 of the regular folks showed up to convince my wife that she should try giving the game a whirl (she had looked through the PHB and expressed interest) Level 1 Party consists of:

Talulah - Gnomish Druid (and her trusty Animal Companion "Cuddles" the Camel)
Forlee - Half Orc Monk
Arleo - Gnomish Spellthief
Stangg - Human Ranger

They churned through one full session- So far have Survived:

* lizardman encounter (3 lizardmen 2 of whom were wounded) used as a plot device to get the whole group together
* 5 Goblins (in the mining office)
* The Wolves
* Blown up by Sarcophagus trap in False tomb
* Survived the lurking Strangler in the Architect's Lair

So far so good- My wife's only comment so far is that things seem kinda slow between fights. Wow does she rock... :)

well i just finished wc and heres the part

Elven Ninja 1(dead thanks to the acid beetle swarm)(new player 2.)
Elven Druid (repaced ninja)
Human Rouge 3(plans to take monk soon)
Raptoran Sor 3(dead wind warriors this time)
Raptoran Shugenja 3(replaced sor)
Human Bard 3(dead, Filge)
Human Fighter 3(palns on taking a homebrew feat tree enabling fighting with 3 swords[throw one in betwwen]replaced bard)
H/elf Druid 2 (brand spanklin new player)

Just started with an introductory adventure that I ran to allow the PCs to be 2nd level to start Whispering Cairn, since there's only 3 of them. The party is (set in Eberron):

Half-blood Daelkyr, Dread Necromancer;

Changeling Urban Druid (from Dragon Magazine);

Psiforged Psion (Seer).

The players are all very experienced and it looks like they're going to have a lot of fun in Diamond Lake. They're certaintly an unusual lot. The Changeling already has three personas floating around town and has an animated chair as her companion. The Dread Necromancer has the Tomb-Tainted Soul feat, so he can heal himself with his touch attack.

Just finish the HoHR and here's the original three:

Sir Gabriel, Human Paladin of Heironious 9th level
Dak, Elven Transmuter 9th level, working on creating golems
Van Ro, Elven Druid 9th level, from the bronze wood lodge

A fourth joined them mid-way through HOHR:
Dathaniel, Human thief 8th level, investigator
(To create Dathaniel's background up to 8th level, I used various adventures from the last five Dungeons as a base)

Other party goers from time to time:
Otto Matic, Human fighter 2nd level and aspiring paladin has been acting as squire to Gab since before Blackwall keep

A female appentice to Dak, who was killed and transformed into a worm zombie when the group left her and Otto behind at the keep to confront the lizardmen.

Gar Blitzhame (from dragon 335) joined the party as fighter back-up for the first part of the 3FoE. He has been placed in charge of the dourstone mines in recognition of his service in reveiling the scheme of Dourstone and the collapsing of his own mine tunnels.

Crate and Barrel, Mimics from the HoHR. After incinrating the first mimic in 2.5 seconds, the other two thought is was prudent to work out a new agreement with the party. They now gaurd the party's rooms in the Crooked house.

Gortek, 7th level fighter/barbarian slayer. He was released from the Drow food pen. A one shot character for a visiting friend, he sought to find a noble death at the hands of a powerful foe, but alas he lived.

Started last week and they got to the False Tomb.

Human : samuraï 1
Halfing : cleric of Pelor 1 (sun, healing)
Human : bard 1
Elf : druid 1
Human : paladin of Heironeus 1

Seems pretty balance...sligthy arcane underpowered and divine overpowered.

Human rogue 3/ scout 5

At one point, we had a human necromancer, but the player faded away.

I've just started a log of the campaign on my website. Here's the link:

http://www.geocities.com/templeton_algrith/2005_Campaign

Just started the campaign last week, they have killed the wolves and the slasher, they ran from the beetle-swarm.

The party:

-Anso Haystack, human cleric of Wee-Jas 1st; not present yet. Ex-slave and from what I heared an opportunist.
-Caeldrim Kavain, elf wizard 1st; apprentice to Allustan. I don't know much about the background yet but the fact that he walks around in a leather armor shows that he's very cautious.
-Grigorii Zaitsev, human (flan) barbarian 1st; a mercenary from the Rovers of the Barrens. Simpel but effective.
-Leto Tamir Ned, human (oeridian)swashbuckler 1st; eldest son of very impoverished and exiled nobility. He just quit his job as miner from one of Smenks mines but must still povide for his mother and younger brother.
-Sir Roderick Brandywine Rogers, human rogue 1st; a nephew of Smenk. A real obnoxious brat that got fired from his easy job in Smenks office for being a, well, real obnoxious brat. "Found" the map to the Wispering Cairn when archiving the documents of one of Smenk's ex-competitors. He still lives large even after Smenk fired him so he needs the money continue his lifestyle.
-Thelo, halfelf monk 1st; a monk from the Twilight Monastry. Sent to Diamond lake to check on rumors of "coming dark times". Friend of Leto.
-Zeneb, gnome bard 1st; very irritating. Has already irritated half the group with his tall tales, trivial knowledge and small harmonica. Entered the group by showing up in the abandoned mining office telling he had overheared Roderick and Leto talking in a bar and he wanted in or he would blab to others.

In a nutshell, a group that can easily provide action and conflict without me having to add external conflicts like hungry wolves or beetles.

i forgot 2...

stupid me the party is actually

Elven Ninja 1(dead thanks to the acid beetle swarm)(new player 2.)
Elven Druid (repaced ninja)
Human Rouge 3(plans to take monk soon)
Raptoran Sor 3(dead wind warriors this time)
Raptoran Shugenja 3(replaced sor)
Human Bard 3(dead, Filge)
Human Fighter 3(palns on taking a homebrew feat tree enabling fighting with 3 swordsreplaced bard)
H/elf Druid 2 (brand spanklin new player)
Human Barbarian 3 (played by a girl!!!!!)
Drow Paladin 1
H/Orc Paladin 1

Well, we're your basic vanilla party for my group just starting out with the WC scenario (I'd gather about 3/4 of the way thru the WC):

Fighter, Human 2nd level (mine)
Wizard, Human 2nd level
Cleric, Human 2nd level
Rogue, Halfling 2nd level

It's been interesting so far... and the DM is one evil SOB, but a good friend of mine and he really makes it interesting.

I just started a new campaign and we have now played three sessions in the Whispering Cairn with these adventurers:

Alphons, male Human Wizard
Gell, male Half-orc Paladin
Gerrit, male Halfling Rogue
Morea, female Aasimar Cleric of Pelor (aiming for Radiant Servant)
Quezac, male Human Paragon (aiming for Enlightened Fist)
Te'Ban, male Half-orc Barbarian (aiming for Frenzied Berserker)

Running in Forgotten Realms. Currently in the middle of Whispering Cairn:

Constantine: Human male fighter
Tereyn: Ghostwise halfling druid with lots of tiny animal companions
Pharreyl: Drow elf rogue with great back story, planning on taking mage levels and then arcane trickster
Thrishick: Thri-kreen psi-warrior - using my homebrew lesser Thri-kreen race that is only +2ECL and has no monster levels.

So far I have incapacitated (i.e. -ve hp) all but the Thri-kreen, whose player always hangs back in combat (big chicken) and has to be persuaded to attack when the rest of the party is unconcious / paralysed etc. I particularly enjoyed the submerged ghoul encounter - it was a near TPK. And it scared them witless.

The joys of DMing

Running in Eberron. Currently halfway of Whispering Cairn (gathering information about the missing Land bones).

Quaal - Warforged Paladin (Silver Flame) lvl. 3

Kai Bathar - Orc Druid (Gate Keeper) lvl. 3

Eskandar - Kalashtar Sorcerer (I do not use psionics in my campaigns) lvl. 3

Silenoz - Elf Rogue (Aberrant Dragonmark) lvl. 3
note: well, not really aberrant bu I can't write here about it because my players could be lurking around...)
