A Meeting of Class Acts

So GenCon was pretty awesometastic this year. I met a lot of great people, scored a lot of great contacts, and had a lot of great fun. I also got much blackmail material on certain editors of certain magazines that shall certainly remain nameless, because I'd never dare use it. :-p

One of the best moments was the "Writing for Dungeon" seminar which was both fun and informative, and let to the meeting of great minds - i.e. myself (Amber E. Scott), Troy Taylor, and John E. Ling (Zherog on these boards). We hung out for a bit, traded tips, walked around and had a good time. And, of course, recorded the event for posterity:

Troy on the left, John on the right, me behind the camera. I mean, me in the middle. So yeah, it was cool.

I was at the "Writing for Dungeon Magazine" seminar as well (and even had the honor of sitting directly behind Amber!).

I fully agree -- the "Writing for Dungeon" seminar was both a great deal of fun and informative. I especially liked the idea of the wererat ranger using wild empathy to gather a swarm of cats...of course, maybe you had to be there for that to make sense...

Well, I had the honor of sitting *next* to Amber, so there! :P She even played footsie with me - or at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;)

So *THAT'S* what was going on up there...it all makes sense now...

Oh, for the ability to post a smilie that accurately reflects my opinon of Zherog's post...

Well, I did sit by myself ... :-(

But at least I arrived on time ... unlike some others ;-)

Hey, I'm a very busy woman! :-D

On a related note, I recently asked Troy if we looked how he expected. He replied with a comment I find too awesome not to share. I promised Troy there would be no relatiation against him by Paizo people - any retaliation should be directed towards me. :-D

I knew what Erik Mona looked like cuz I'd seen his photo posted before. But I really didn't associate the two big guys with James (Jacobs) and Jeremy (Walker). I just thought (at first) Erik had brought along some bodyguard muscle to the GenCon. He did sort of look like Mr. Big from Get Smart or some Mafia don flanked by a pair of leg-breakers.

Erik: "You see, Paizo tis a family. Yuz treat da family good, da family treats yuz good. Betray da family, and it's cement overshoes for you pal."

I will never be able to look at Erik the same way again. :-p

That’s awesome! :D I’m so jealous — GenCon sounds like it was a blast! Maybe next year I’ll spring for a ticket out there. Just curious, does anyone go to GenCon So Cal? Is it just as big of an event?

I’m heading up to the Penny Arcade Expo this weekend! Do any of you fine writers (Class Acts or otherwise) plan on being there?

As a matter of fact, Paizo will have a booth at PAX manned all weekend by Mike McArtor of Dragon fame. Erik, Jason, and Wes all plan to make appearances as well.

I believe Jason and Wes are running some games in the RP room, too. They'd have to give you the details on that, though.

Thanks Josh! Yeah, I’m hoping to meet the gang, and might try to beat the masses to either Jason’s or Wes’s game.

The writing seminars are always my favorite part of GEN CON.

Btw: Amber, I was going to try to introduce myself to you at the
Sean Reynolds seminar on Sunday, but you cut out early.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I really like your work.

I'm jealous too.

Before I found out I was moving to Texas, this former Indianapolis native was really looking forward to meeting many of the personalitites on this board, as well as the Paizo staff. Very bad timing. I've already promised myself a plane ride for next year though.

Sorry I missed you, Tim! I don't think I was at that seminar, so it must have been my evil twin anyway. But there's always next year!

Evil twin.. That's so cool. I've always wanted one of those myself. Next year it is then.

btw I keep thinking it would be really cool to get a freelancers game going at GEN CON. Playing with new people was something I really didn't get to do this year. There's so many great contributors to the zines that I'd love to sit at a game table with.

That would rock mightily, Tim! We need to convince one of the Paizo guys to DM. :D

I vote for James, but he probably knew that already. In fact he probably knows the adventure I'd want him to run too.

I'm glad y'all had fun and got to meet one another. Yet another perk of Class Acts: bringing everyone together. ::sniffle:: I'm so proud! :)

Of course, it would have been way better if you'd been there, Mike.

/sucking up

I was hoping to meet Mike McArtor this year...it was great having a chance to match faces to names with DUNGEON and DRAGON staff people, but I guess Mike had the honor of "holding down the fort" back home?
