Neverwinter Nights

Video Games

Ok, for my birthday I got a new game called Neverwinter Nights. It is the most like D&D video game I have ever played. I only just started and I was wondering if anyone would help me out. My name is Mr. Vader. I'll be online alot so if anyone wants to help ,or just play, then post on here.

O.K., I didn't know you needed Gamespy Arcade. I didn't download it because I've had bad experiences with it (multiple viruses), so I won't be on for a couple days.

Neverwinter Nights was a really incredible computer gaming experience, IMO. There are two supplemental packs but you may have them already. Go to the Neverwinter Nights website and DL supplemental adventures made from game designing fans. Some are quite good.

Have fun, and if you need any help ask away.

So should I just download Gamespy Arcade anyways? I can't find any other way to play online.

You didn't need to back when I bought it. This was in the read me file:

Note: you do NOT need to install GameSpy Arcade to play Neverwinter Nights on the Internet.

I'm going to try and get on as soon as I'm done updating the program.

Thats the problem. I have the Platnium Edition and when I click multiplayer it says that Gamespy Arcade was not installed and it takes me back to the main menu...

I tried again but I can only access favorites and buddys. I guess I'll install Gamespy Arcade.

Guess so then. Good luck, Mr. Vader.

I've played NWN online for the better part of last and this year. I never thought I would ever...ever...play online games.
NWN was also my first computer game experience.

While it is very close to the DnD tabletop game, there are a few things that are problematic (imho).

#1: Some of the more important divine scrolls can be used by anyone. Scrolls such as ressurection, remove disease, and raise dead can be used by any class...including Barbarians (who can't read mind you...according to the normal rules). DMs of online games may be able to script it differently.

#2: You will have to download the CEP. Most...if not all...of the online games use the CEP. I'm not sure if it's been succesfully patched to be compatible with NWN v1.66 so try and get as much info as you can.

#3: DO NOT download any haks other than CEP. I have had problems with some haks working with the offline game. One such hak...the Prestige Resource Consortium (or PRC) is one I had problems with. Your choice if you wish to ignore this and do it anyway.

#4: Look for online PWs (persistant worlds) that have a large group of players and are based more on story than hack-in-slash...as those I have found are more fun (and you can still hack-n-slash while RPing).

...here are a few that I have been on.

Under the "Role Play" tab on Game Spy look for:
"Forgotten Realms: Cormyr"
or...imho the best
"TSM"

I unfortunately don't play anymore. NWN (especially online) took up WAY too much of my spare time. I would rather spend it doing other things...such as preparing for my next DnD group, or playing M:TG with my kid.

Good luck. Have fun. Happy RPing.
