Dragon / Dungeon all poly-bagged?

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

Is it just the UK, or has everyone's recent issues of Dragon and Dungeon arrived on Game Store shelves in sealed poly bags?

I like to browse before I decide whether to buy and now I cannot. If I wanted to buy sight unseen I would have taken out a subscription. (Which I don't want to do because not every issue has something I want). I understand when there are maps/inserts, bit all recent issues have had them.

So why the poly bags in stores?

I understand sealing the latest Dungeon mags since the last two (and next two) contain a large, fold-out Greyhawk map. Thankfully, Paizo decided to put the mag and map in a bag as opposed to using that weird rubber cement to attach the two and ruin a page in the process. I'm not sure why they would seal Dragon though.

It reminds me of the mid-80's, when I would buy sealed modules from the hobby shop based solely on the strength of the cover art and brief description on the back. You never knew what you were gonna get, just like D&D Miniatures booster packs now. I like knowing what I'm getting into before I spend the money.

Generally, we only polybag newsstand copies when there's an insert that needs to be secured, because we want people to pick up and page through (and hopefully then buy) the magazines on the newsstand. It's also significantly less expensive for us to not bag 'em.

Copies intended for subscribers get polybagged, though; I suppose it's possible that some extraneous bagged copies find their way to newsstands from time to time.
