Paizo Publishing, LLC, publisher of special-interest gaming and entertainment magazines DRAGON®, DUNGEON®, Undefeated® and Amazing Stories™, announced today that it will temporarily suspend publication of two of its titles—Amazing Stories and Undefeated. Despite respectable sales and increasing circulation, both periodicals face substantial market pressures and competition. Paizo intends to use the break to explore unique opportunities to revamp and reposition each magazine.
“We remain quite proud of these titles, and are presently considering a number of options that should provide a long and exciting future for both magazines,” says Lisa Stevens, co-owner and CEO of Paizo Publishing. “Both Amazing Stories and Undefeated are doing well in their respective niches; nevertheless, we believe that they could be even more successful. We certainly value the support our subscribers and regular readers have shown to Amazing Stories and Undefeated, and we hope that this hiatus will be brief.”
Amazing Stories #608 went on sale January 4, with Undefeated scheduled to reach newsstands on January 18. These will be the last regular issues printed prior to the hiatus. As Paizo is still developing plans for the continued publication of both magazines, at this time subscriptions are not automatically being cancelled or transferred to other titles. Subscribers wishing to cancel their subscriptions can contact Paizo Publishing at customer.service@paizo.com. Plans are also underway for subscribers and visitors to the Paizo e-commerce store--paizo.com[/a]--to obtain an exclusive e-copy of Amazing Stories #609 in early February. Back issues of both magazines are also available at the paizo.com[/a] Web site.

Ok... its April 11, 2005. Still no update or news.
We're one issue behind so far, does that mean we're gonna get credit to our subscriptions?
Or be able to cash out or transfer our remaining issues to another 'zine?

We're still kicking around ways to make Undefeated work for everyone. But rest assured, subscriptions are served by the number of issues, not the amount of time, so delays between issues won't count against anyone.
However, if you're not interested in waiting, and would like to cancel your subscription, or switch remaining issues to another magazine, drop a note to customer.service@paizo.com and we'll get that taken care of whenever you like.

It's June 1st. How's "negotiations?" Any official updates?
Officially, not yet. Unofficially, more talking with more people involved than two months ago... so that's a hopeful sign. But frankly, I suspect we're still at least a couple months away from any potential official news.

I hope that it is a good sign. But, I hope you're not getting hit with too much micromanagement. (Too many cooks spoil the broth, as the saying goes....)

Why July 7? -Vic.
Ah, WizKids has been a litle mysterious about an announcement they plan to make on July 7th concerning their lines.
I was just seeing if there might be any connection between their "major announcement", and Paizo's restructuring of UNDEFEATED, and my own hopes of Paizo doing an honest-to-gosh rulebook for HeroClix.
(I was really reaching. :P )

Well, I want to thank you Vic for the updates, which I realize are probablly about as complete as you can make them. Undefeated was one of my new favorites and I have friends who can't be bothered with Dragon/Dungeon but read every issue cover to cover and frequently ask me if I have heard anything. So we are all looking forward to its return. (Now, if it just would AND if I ever actually recieve a prize for having my letter published in the last issue, I will once again be 100% happy with Paizo. At least from a customer standpoint.)

Vic,
Since Scott is asking, I figured I would ask as well: I wrote the letter about historical minis in the last issue, but never got a prize. I did get a sort of consolation prize, though--the Anachronism game recommended in the response has turned out to be a lot of fun, and I never would have heard of it if it hadn't been for your magazine. Many thanks!
Regards,
Luke

Good to hear.
Um, will remaining subscription issues still be honored in 2006?
(I can't remember how many issues I even have remaining on my subscription now. But it would be great to get one in my box in 2006...)
Remaining subscription issues will of course be honored regardless of the magazine's return date. (Additionally, if we were to ever determine that the magazine isn't coming back so we officially cancel it, balances would be refunded [or, upon request, transferred].) And, of course, should you tire of waiting for the return, balances can be refunded or transferred upon request right now, too.
You can see the number of issues you have remaining on any of your Paizo subs by clicking the "My Subscriptions" button at the top of the page.

Heya Vic, my name is Rod White. I did a lot of work for Undefeated since issue #2. I wanted to let you know that I'm still out here, and I'm still always looking for work (the life of a freelancer, so fruitful, eh?). So please dp keep me posted as to where Undefeated ends up going. I loved working with Mike and the magazine overall, and really miss it.
I've worked for a lot of magazines over the years (some where close to 2 dozen to be exact) and honestly working for Paizo was the most fun. So keep me posted man, I believe you can email me direct if needed from this board too if you like.
