We finished up "Thirteen Cages" today, and ended by setting up the new government for Cauldron.
The party rogue had been working towards entering politics since about 4th level, creating a business, which turned into a front for her smuggling guild, turning a good profit which she used to fund others' business ventures out and about the Cauldron area, building a very solid network of peers.
So, now she's been accepted as the Lady Mayor, she set up a governing council. She decided on a body of six members, where she would cast a deciding vote, if necessary.
My gaming group finished the night by going over all of the NPCs that they know to fill in the seats, trying to make sure that no one group of people will dominate the council, and here's what they came up with:
Council Members:
1. Our party fighter/ranger with the Vow of Poverty feat, to represent the people of Cauldron (chosen by the voice of the people)
2. Lord Taskerhill, to represent the noble houses (chosen somewhat relunctantly by the noble houses)
3. Lady Knowlern, to represent the merchants (nominated by Jenya and supported by Maavu, who wants to spend time rebuilding his assests)
4. Kristof Jurgensen, to represent the churches (at the urging of the new Lady Mayor, after Jenya declined the position)
5. Vortimax Weer, to represent the wizarding community (Lord Taskerhill objected to the nomination of Haanu Pershai, the captain of the Magical Threats Agency, saying that she would swing the vote towards the military-minded)
6. Skylar Krewis, newly promoted to Captain of the Town Guard (this seat will always be occupied by the sitting Captain of the Town Gaurd)
As a DM, I think they did a good job of filling the positions. I think it will be fun to see what political ploys and whatnot will sink into the PC's lives now that they are higher level and taking on responsibilities for the city.
