Support for old (non-supported) settings

Dragon Magazine General Discussion

To go along with the thread I did for non-WOTC/TSR worlds, I think that every once in a while, an article supporting or updating an old world would be nice.

Say, updating Al-Quadim to 3.5e would be nice, or an article updating the Dark-Sun world.

Not as a full-issue update, but articles over time that update an old world would be nice (I think there was one for Dark-Sun recently).

I'll second this, specifically in reference to Al-Qadim.

Yeah, and more Mystara/Known World support! :)

...

By the way, Dragon #319 and Dungeon #110 were the Dark Sun crossover issues.

One of the best ways to incorporate this idea would be for authors to start adding a little sidebar that details how the article can be used in other settings. I believe I have seen something along these lines in previous issues.

I'd like to see some Spelljammer.....personal fave, what can I say.

I also want to see Al-Quadim udated for 3.5

I submitted a proposal for Lankhmar. We'll see what sort of feedback I get from it.

That proposal hasn't gotten to me yet, Lloyd, but one major hurdle is that WotC no longer has the Lankhmar license.

I sent it e-mail on June 1, according to my handy writing log. Should I re-send?

Last I heard White-Wolf's fiction house was holding the torch for Fritz Liber's fiction, but I for one would be thrilled at the concept of a return to Lankhmar. The new edition has a huge amount of content for skillful rogue classes that needs a good highlight.

First post btw so hi guys :)

Sidenote: How bout a feature on how campaign worlds are updated in general? Could give insight into the Greyhawk and Forgotten realms transition into 3.0 with a focus on things to consider when updating such as how the power balance has changed.

Scarab Sages

I for one would like to see some official updates for the old Spelljammer campaign. They touch on this slightly in Lord of Madness, in reference to the Neogi and the Illithid. Plus they included a mini-adventure that had a (wrecked) Mindspider. Joy! More of that would be cool. Bring on the Scro!

Sovereign Court

I personnaly love the Birthright campaign setting and was considering adapting AoW to that world (combining 3 powerful awnshiegh to create the overgod, ie Azrai's return) I have heard rumors that L. Richard Baker III still owns the copyright but that WOTC didn't want it. I also heard a rumor that birthright.net had purchased the rights...oh well. That's my favorite setting and would enjoy seeing some new stuff. I wrote a Diemed book that the site used to have up for download, but since they revamped their site the download is gone.

Anuire Forever!

Perhaps they could do a status overview article. Like do a paragraph or three on each with the following:

Who owns the license now or what WOTC did with it and what they have to say. Does not have to be mean if disappointing, just matter of fact.
"Official" D20 website info if any
Comments from a line developer of the past, or present with plans for future.

Like for Lankhmar, you could say White Wolf has it with no D20 vision, but there is a cool website, and past TSR Lankmahr developer has this to say.

Or
Swords & Sorcery is doing Ravenloft and Masque of the Red Death, the website is this, and guy in charge has new stuff to say.

Something like that

Scarab Sages

I know I contributed to this thread just the other day, but I figured I would do so again. As previously stated, my support is being thrown behind an official update to the Spelljammer setting. I loved that stuff. My old party had one of the most memorable campaigns running around the various crystal spheres, battling all manner of villains. It was great. Remember the Rock of Bral? The Smalljammers (we had one)? The Philogiston? This stuff was assume. Not only was it highly creative, but it was a way to link all of the various campaign settings. You could start off on Oerth in Greyhawk space, make a trip to the Rock of Bral (while dodging Neogi, Beholders, etc), then end up somewhere on Toril. Like I said, it was assume.

My idea for new support would be an overview of the situations in various Crystal Spheres (especially since the 2nd Unhuman War), followed by details on ...Eberron Space (ta da). It seems to me that Eberron would be a perfect setting to link Spelljammer to. Come on guys, you know you want to.

Long live the Scro.

More support about Maztica would be welcome (the stuff included in the "classic settings" dragon was really good). Of course an article by Steven Schend would be the top.

Unless something VERY strange happened in 1995, TSR/WotC/Hasbro owns Birthright, not Rich Baker and Colim McComb. They were both staff writers at the time and were "work for hire" employees, thus anything they wrote for their employer belongs to their employer.
