If you could have any actor alive narrate any book in print, who and what would they be?

Jenny

Tim Curry reading all of the Cleric Quintet.

I can imagine him as Aballister Banaduce, as Cadderly, as the Bouldershoulder brothers... heck, I can imagine him as the White Squirrel!

He is such an incredible actor... on screen, on radio, as a cartoon voice, on books on CD.

He has stolen so many scenes in movies, there's a warrent out for his arrest in Hollywood! And I think that Nigel Thornberry has the best voice ever. On "Talk Like the British Day" I go Full-Nigel.

Having said all that, Rob Inglis does an incredible job on the Lord of the Rings, and I'd listen to him as well as Ian Holm.

I'd really love to hear Djimon Hounsou narrate Mike Resnick's KIRINYAGA. A couple of the stories from KIRINYAGA are currently available from Infinivox, but the narrator is no Djimon Hounsou.

Other than that, I'd love to hear audio editions of THE STARS MY DESTINATION and EARTH ABIDES, though I don't have any particular actors in mind for either. STARS would be harder to cast, what with Gully's gutterspeak and everything, and it would present some challenges in dramatizing the end of the book when things get a bit wonky.

I first heard EARTH ABIDES on an old 1950 production of the classic OTR (Old Time Radio) program "Escape." It haunted me enough that I went out and read the book (superb tale, BTW). I think Wilford Brimley would be great in an audio edition of that story. As for STARS, that's a tougher one. Perhaps Tony Danza? Nah! Have to think about that one more.

Though it's an awfully short story, I'd love to hear a good dramatized audio version of THE NINE BILLION NAMES OF GOD, too.

I'll call John's Stars and raise him The Demolished Man. It's hard to decide who should do either of them, but Anthony Hopkins comes to mind, even though I think an American accent would make more sense for each of those stories. Likewise, Andy Serkis might be an interesting non-U.S. choice for it.

Does the person have to be alive?

I have a copy of the original "War of the Worlds" radio show (from 1938)on CD. Orson Welles voice could bring a book to life.

If the person does not have to be alive, I would like to hear Elmer Fudd do Interview with a Vampire.

Vincent Price reading, oh let's just say all the stories in Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman.
Price did Poe material so well, and his voice was just great for the darker tones in Gaiman's work. Really well chosen with words, that is.

Liberty's Edge

Bruce Campbell narrating Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Featuring Mark Sheppard as Crowley and Simon Pegg as Aziraphale.

Henry Rollins narrating A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess.

Marilyn Manson reading his autobiography: The Long Hard Road Out of Hell.
