Explore fantastic worlds of high adventure with a Planet Stories subscription that delivers the excitement of classic fantasy and science fiction right to your mailbox! As part of your subscription, you'll receive your new bimonthly Planet Stories volumes at a substantial 30% discount off the cover price, and you can choose the shipping method that works best for you (including bundling the books with your other Paizo subscriptions)!
Subscribers may also order any book in the Planet Stories back catalog at 15% off the cover price to fill in your collection or pick up earlier volumes you may have missed.
Personally selected by Erik Mona and Paizo's award-winning editorial staff, each Planet Stories volume has been chosen with the interests of fantasy and science fiction enthusiasts and gamers in mind. Timeless classics from authors like Robert E. Howard (Conan the Barbarian), Michael Moorcock (Elric), and Leigh Brackett (The Empire Strikes Back) will add an edge to your personal library, providing a better understanding of the genre with classic stories that easily stand the test of time.
Each Planet Stories edition is a Paizo exclusive—you cannot get these titles from any other publisher. Many of the tales in our line first appeared in the "pulp era" of the early 20th Century that produced authors like H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Fritz Lieber, and Robert E. Howard, and have been out of print for decades. Others are available only in rare limited editions or moldering pulp magazines worth hundreds of dollars.
And now they can be yours for a fraction of what you'd pay at the local bookstore.
Sign up for an ongoing Planet Stories subscription to make sure that you don't miss a single volume! Subscriptions are fixed at a 30% discount off each volume's cover price, plus shipping. Your ongoing Planet Stories subscription will get you every new book as it's released, automatically continuing roughly every 60 days until you choose to cancel it. Instead of paying your subscription all at once, we'll automatically charge your credit card each month before we ship a new volume. You only need to sign up once, and never need to worry about renewal notices or missed volumes!
If you have other Paizo subscriptions, you can combine them to save money on shipping.
When you start an ongoing subscription, any existing preorders for products covered by your subscription are automatically cancelled (or have their quantity reduced by one if you've preordered more than one of an item).

I was initially very pumped about this superscription, but the euphoria is fading fast. Looking at the books coming up in the next year I'm struck by the overwhelming majority of the books being nearly pure fantasy. I'd like to see some more true SciFi.
I love to read and often run out of authors. The public library system in my area is terrible with the fantasy/sci-fi section (not unusual) and I have trouble finding the out of print books. I also love having the opportunity to try out a new book that I never would have found on my own. I've tried other such book subscriptions and have been deeply disappointed in the quality of the books sent. Not so with Planet Stories. I've only gotten two so far but I enjoyed both immensely (The Samarkand Solution and the Ginger Star). The only trouble is that I'm reading through them too fast and have to await the next with baited breath. I highly recommend subscribing to Planet Stories and plan on purchasing all the books that I missed before I knuckled down and subscribed.
I love getting a book in the mail every month or so, I read so many books it can be hard to get to the book shop all the time, so for some good fiction to be delivered to my door reguarly is great. So far the books I have received have been great, I loved reading Gary Gygax works and am really enjoying The Ginger Star which I received yesterday, I am enjoying it so much I went and ordered Leigh Brackett's previous book The Secret of Sinharat, which I missed out on getting. Cant wait to see what the future holds. Keep up the great work Paizo.
I get these with my other subscriptions every month and these are the first thing I look at. One so-so book in about 6 so far. Very action packed pulp fiction so far. Loving it and highly recommending it. As another reader said, these are very fast reads. That's not so bad. You can just read them again in the time you would read a less exciting book. :)
I've had a chance to receive and read both the Annubis Murders by Gary Gygax and City of the Beast by Michael Moorcock.
Annubis Murders was far more lyrical than I would have expected. While the mystery revealed is somewhat unsatisfying [a la Sherlock Holmes the final reveal includes information not really available to the reader] it moved at a quick pace and was an enjoyable read.
City of the Beast is a romp on Mars in the style of Edgar Rice Burroughs. If you like John Carter, you'll undoubtedly like Michael Kane.
The thing that was most disappointing were the number of minor typos. ~5 in each book or so. Most were of a somewhat forgiveable nature (using the wrong real word in the sentence like form instead of from). A couple of the typos required me to think carefully about what was being said, but otherwise aren't too bad (though I certainly would like to see that changed).
I'd consider each of the books something that can be knocked off in short order. For Annubis Murders I read the entire thing between waiting for a flight and arriving at my destination, and City of the Beast was completed in a single work day between slow moments and breaks. On average, I think most people can knock one of these books out in about 8 hours of reading, they seem around 200 pages, and a fast reader can do it more quickly.
For that reason, if you're going to have a large amount of time to read, make sure to have two or three ready and lined up.
So far each book has also stood well on its own. While the characters are open-ended enough to allow sequels, (and perhaps prequels) there is no feeling that you're starting without enough information about the characters/events, etc.
I do recommend the subscription. I'm curious to see what else they've chosen for me when the next three arrive in the next day or so.

Do you realize that the description of the sale says that it is for three books but then lists four books?
[Administrator's note for those of you looking in after January 2008: The "sale" was actually a special subscriber discount on previous books in the series. Because we didn't offer subscriptions until after three Planet Stories books ihad already been published, we wanted to give subscribers the opportunity to pick up those books with the same discount that they would have had if we had offered the subscriptions three months earlier when the line started. This limited-time offer is no longer available.]

Allright, I subscribed. One question, though: Would it be possible to (retroactively) have the subscription start at book #1, instead of #3?

Thanks for the note. We'll fix it next week.

Kind of. Until January 1, Planet Stories subscribers will automatically get the 20% discount on the previous books in the series. You can either add them to your cart at the same time that you subscribe, or order them separately. The discount will be applied automatically during checkout.
