Tired of the same old double damage? Wouldn’t you rather chop off your opponent’s head in one clean swing or put an arrow in his heart? Paizo Publishing presents the GameMastery Critical Hit Deck!

Rolled a critical hit? Draw a card and apply the result. Each of the Critical Hit cards in this 52-card deck has four different results based on weapon type, all of which are compatible with the 3.5 rules set and the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Crushing your enemy’s skull has never been this much fun.

Useable by experienced GMs and novices alike, this product fits perfectly into any Game Master's arsenal.

Note to owners of the previous edition of this product: The significant changes in the new edition are that three cards now reference Perception instead of Spot, Search, and Listen; an "additional rules" card has been added with 3.5 usage notes and new optional rules; a couple of typos have been corrected; and the damage type labels on each card are now light yellow instead of red to improve readability. All of the cards with textual changes are pictured below.

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Fun!
Reviewer: Edhel

My group uses the critical hit deck in Conan RPG and it has been loads of fun. In low magic setting the crits feel much more dangerous with no reliable healing available. They're ok in more fantastic d20 games too, but not as much fun as in Conan.

Verily worth the 10 EUR.

Bought it.

but i think it's good only to a certain level.

2D6 bleed might be very dangerous at low levels, but it doesn't matter much when you are lvl 10+.
Also, losing something like 1D4 strength or dext ...doesn't make much change in the combat. They don't tell me but most of my players prefer to reverse back to the old double or triple damage.

Disapointing ... for them and for me

One of the best game aids for a 3.5/PFRPG game a GM can possibly have! The GameMastery Critical Hit Deck adds a level of excitement and tension to the game that the standard critical from the Core rules does not. My players get even more excited about scoring a critical threat than before, because of the flavor the Critical Hit Deck adds to the game, and they spend a lot of time role-playing the after effects of both the criticals they score as well as the criticals scored against them.

Using the Critical Hit Deck and the companion Critical Fumble Deck greatly livens up a game session, that's for sure!

For those that are looking at these samples online, let me assure you, that you want these cards in your game.

First, they fit. You don't need a location for a hit, no extra tables needed. Did someone critical? Just pull the top card.

Do you (like me) hate having to do flavor text when instead you'd go through the rest of combat? This does solve a lot of worries, as it gives very little game rules, but enough fluff in the description of the bloody encounter to get players worried.

And you'll use this on your players more than your monsters. So keep this in mind if you've been seeing a lot of cards used in a night, there is a decapitation result. If you are like me and pull a card, there is a very real possibility that your game will get halted as you've just killed the party cleric.

Are you really into the idea of a critical hit deck? Combine this with the Critical Fumble Deck and use them in separate stacks at your table. You won't have to worry about stupid house rules for criticals, as this system of crits and fumbles is the best on the market, for any system-especially PATHFINDER/3.x

Excellent product and use of your wages, once again, a win for Paizo. Huzzah!

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Must Have Game Aid!
Reviewer: Penny Sue

I finally got my hands on some even though they are on back order. An online game shop happened to have a couple decks still in stock. It was a hassle to get them but worth every cent and minute!

We used it in our last game and when anyone rolled a 20 we were all excited to see what happened! I would actually let the players draw the cards and read them which engages them more which they liked.

The results on each card are fantastic. This is a must have for any GM. We even game using MicroLITE d20 and the cards still work and are relevant. I think they are compatible with most any fantasy d20 system that is compatible with the D&D SRD.

We're pleased to announce that a new edition of our Critical Hit Deck, updated for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game as well as the 3.5 rules, will be available in March.

A list of the changes from the previous edition is included in the product description, along with images of the seven cards that have had text changes.

The textual revisions are as follows:

  • Eye Patch for You: Spot and Search have been replaced by Perception
  • 2 for 1: "one" has been added before "adjacent target"
  • Missing Digits: "looses" has been corrected to "loses"
  • Brow to Chin: Spot and Search have been replaced by Perception
  • Missing Ear: Listen has been replaced by Perception
  • Hypnotic Link: "suggestion" has been italicized

sweet. cats knocked a soda onto my deck. We still use it, but they're a bit...stiff.

Any hope for the fumble deck too? And maybe a way to order both at once?

We do plan to reprint the Fumble Deck, hopefully before August. ( Jason tells me the Fumble Deck needs even fewer changes than this one.)

No plans for a bundle at this time... but it might be worth considering!

Just one question, does "Stabilize" stop a "Bleed" effect?

It's not technically a "cure spell" and doesn't give any h.p. but it replaces "cure minor wounds" that would stop bleed effects and has the same effect as a Healing DC 15 check.

I ruled that stabilize would stop one condition per casting so either you stop the target from bleeding h.p., bleeding attribute damage or dying for each casting not all at once.

I'd like to know how other people handled this.

In the current rules, stabilize does not stop bleeding as it does not cure damage. This is something I will review.
