A great GM is always thinking about his campaign, scribbling down a note about a cruel trick to play on his players in one notebook while composing diabolical dungeons in another. Instead, we suggest the Campaign Workbook, a handsome 4 1/2" x 5 1/2" spiral-bound campaign journal small enough to carry with you at all times but big enough to handle all your campaign planning needs.

  • A contact list keeps all your players' addresses and phone numbers in one handy place.
  • A PC registry helps you keep track of the characters' key skill bonuses and combat information.
  • Basic campaign forms provide a place for general campaign notes and house rules.
  • A campaign calendar tracks in-game events, character birthdays, and important holidays.
  • Blank map templates allow you to sketch out your campaign world from sea to shining sea, including global, continental, and local area maps.
  • Game logs provide graph paper and lined pages for notes and drawings.
  • An NPC list tracks key characters and provides a handy place to take notes when things change during the course of play.
  • A quote log helps you record your player's best statements for posterity.

Design your deadly dungeons in the same place you track your characters' experience points!

Return Program for GameMastery Campaign Workbook—1st Printing

A large number of copies of the original print run unintentionally used a low-quality glue in the binding, causing some books to fall apart when laid flat. To prevent this from occurring again, Paizo introduced a spiral ring bind for the 2nd printing.

Anyone wishing to return their non-spiral-bound copy and exchange it for a new spiral-bound one can follow one of two paths:

The first option is to return your defective copy online at paizo.com/returns. You'll need to create an account and fill out the e-form provided at the address above. Completion of the e-form will generate an order number. Please tear the front cover off your defective non-spiral-bound Campaign Workbook and treat it like a postcard. Legibly write your return address in the top left corner, Paizo's mailing address in the middle (see below), and affix a stamp to the top right corner. Drop it in your mailbox and Paizo will send a new spiral-bound copy and two FREE GameMastery Item Card booster packs to you by the end of March 2007. Returns are only possible while supplies last.

The second option is to return your copy at your local hobby retailer. They will be able to exchange your copy for a new one and can tear off the front cover and return it to distribution for a replacement.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Come on people, get real

I purchased a copy of the original non-spiral bound version. And had problems opening the book flat but apart from that was very happy with the product. It did what it said it would do:

1. Provide a portable go anywhere solution
2. Contains everything you need to sketch out your campaign 'on the go'.

I see some great advice from people in the reviews eg. Go back to older TSR products for more inspiration etc.
However, I feel like Paizo did a great job with the product and solved the quality problem and some other issues by releasing a sprial bound version and honoring its customers for free replacements.

For me the product is a god send and I personally think they did a great job.

If you want a larger version then you defeat the purpose of it being portable. I'm a closet geek and no way in hell would I want to pack around a huge book at work or out in public.

Its a great product and an honest company who would rather admit problems to keep the customer happy. In this day and age thats worth a lot!

Great work guys.

Good for my needs

I am happy with my workbook. it fulfills the needs I bought it for. I am attempting to create a world for my players and this has been very helpful, with the world map and the calander. I am not using it as an ingame tool, yet, but as a creation tool, and I think it works very well.

Campaign Workbook

As one of those who go back to the very earliest days of FRPG's I've watched development of Game Master/Dungeon Master record keeping systems with more than a little interest.

At first glance, the advertising copy for the Campaign Workbook which saturated the gaming market gave the impression of a high quality product. Sadly, this just is not so.

The product itself is nearly too small to be used in any successful manner. The selection of forms is modest and, at best, not thought out fully prior to printing. In darker lighting, often favored for "mood" by many DMs, the printing cannot be read because of its color. I am not certain if the light blue printing was an attempt to prevent photocopying, but it also prevents practical use.

Suggestions:
1. Digest size the publication, hardbound with a faux leather cover
2. Go back to the original TSR dungeon master world design kit and take inspiration from the content there
3. Print your product in a user-friendly color so it can be used in any gaming environment short of under water
4. When advertising a product such as this, give a full and accurate description of the product so it doesn't appear to have been misrepresented.

Overall, a marginally useful product that could become a great product with attention to detail. The price is moderate, but any Game Master worth their dice would not balk at a $20.00 cover price for a truly useful workbook.

A little misrepresented, and just little

I'm the first to say 'caveat emptor,' but this product really let me down. First, the ads in Dungeon and Dragon really do look like a hardcover, done with that sort of faux leather cover, and second, the ad says 'actual size' - and it's off by about half an inch.

The book is quite small - and the pages are full of blocked forms, which means unless you write tiny, you're not going to have fun filling this book in. Other reviews pointed out other issues (I think I'm lucky in that I didn't get a book with a bad binding), but for me the two issues are definitely those: too small, and it really just doesn't look like the ad at all. The product description said 'leatherette' but didn't mention a soft-cover binding.

I ordered this nearly two years ago, as well, so the wait time vs the arrival might have effected the overall let-down sensation.

The idea was very sound, the result was just too small.

I enjoy it, but it needs work...

I ordered on christmas morning and couldnt wait till it got to my door. The size threw me off slightly because i was expecting something a little taller. yes the binding is sort of cheap, ok yeah one page is already half off and ive only had for 3 days. I like the calender pages, they have helped me keep track of what has occured on what dates in my game, alot can happen from month to month. I also really liked the "Game Log" section, giving you a grid for each page is good, but what good is a great map if your NPC's need to be summed up in 2-5 words. Some of my villians are pretty big with what they can do and what feats and skills they have. While the PC registration is a full page per PC, my PC's dont need that much, i need the minimal info on them because they cant stop talking about their characters. all in all, i like it, i will be using it for my on going campaign and i will be buying more for further games, but i would like to see some changes made. Hardcover, better binding, more pages for villians and organizations, no world map (the page is too small anyway), whole pages for NPC regist., and maybe a few blank pages for drawing NPC portraits or just for some quick doodling. Well thats my time, ill talk to everyone later.

Too bad. . .

I have to say that I was also looking forward to this product being released, but I'm disappointed at the apparent lack of quality. Hopefully GameMastery will take these reviews to heart and fix the problems. This needs to be hard cover, bigger, with more pages and a better binding.

Campaign Workbook issues

Just to let everyone know, we at Paizo are aware of the binding issues and are working on a solution as we speak. We are trying to determine if this is an isolated case of a bad batch of glue, or if the issue is broader in scope. Rest assured that we are aware of your concerns, and as soon as we have a solution we will let you know. Stay tuned to the "Campaign Workbook Binding Issues" thread at the Paizo messageboards for further updates.

Too small

The size of this log book was not what I expected. It is too small to be effective for me.

It needs to be a typical journal size. 8h x 4 or 5.5w I have not used it because of the small size. So I have not experienced the binding issues in the other reviews.

This is a great idea but this implementation is a real disappointment.

The sections do look small in some areas I would like at least 2-4 pages for character data, NPC 1 or 2 full pages per NPC.

I do not draw my own world maps, just encounter maps, so a world map section could deleteed.

Bottom line for me make it bigger and make it durable.

*( )( )( )( )

Not what I Expected

Pros:
- Helpful PC/NPC/Map templates
- Small and Compact
- Contact pages for player info
- Paper handles erasing and rewriting well
- Paper handles ink well without smearing/bleeding

Cons:
- Not hardcover or the size expected
- Certain areas only have one or two pages where you would typically need at least double that (organization notes and villain notes) whereas others of less importance contain more thandouble that (rules and books used)
- Glue binding comes undone very easily with minor use
- PC pages should be at least two pages, not 1/2 general character info and 1/2 notes
- Only one Continent Map (though you can use Game Log maps, but this puts them out of order)

Overall:
As a GM, this book is near useless for me. The pages are small and many of the sections are only one page in length, whereas I require more area for writing. This is more of a note-taking book, which could see some good use by players if the binding didn't give out quickly and pages wouldn't have come out in the process.

I would pay more and rather see a version of this on typical journal book sized paper with a hardcover and more pages dedicated to each section rather than trying to cram everything in to such a small space.

I don't usually write these, but...

I'm compelled to agree with the assesment on the cheapness of the binding. I was really looking forward to this; my wife ordered one for Christmas for me. In the few days of entering information, it has began to crumble. Somehow, I had a mental image of a Hardcover. The size and contents are perfect, but if it won't hold up under even moderate use, it's a waste. I'd be willing to pay even more for this if it came in harcover with a better binding, since that would actually make it worthwhile for me. 2 Stars, but only based on content, not what's holding it together....:)
