The Deck of Many Things is a legendary artifact in tabletop roleplaying games, first appearing in 1975 and continuing to appear in roleplaying game publications ever since. The Deck has a certain shock factor to it. It tests us as players, forcing us to weigh personal goals against loyalty to the party. A bad draw can completely disrupt a campaign, getting a character killed, trapped, stripped of all items, or compelled into story lines that were not part of the original script. A good draw can imbalance a party, making one character able to overwhelm content and overshadow the rest of the team. And for these reasons, the Deck can challenge a gamemaster as well.

A classic Deck contains 22 cards, but the Analog Games' Deck of Many Things includes four new cards as a result of stretch goals requested and unlocked by Kickstarter backers. Traditionalists may, of course, choose to leave these cards out of their Deck when using it in play. Our deck is also composed of entirely original artwork, both front and back.

A must buy!!

*****

These are amazing, I unfortunately was not part of the kick starter for these cards so i did miss out on the special "The Beginning" card. For those that buy this set that card is listed in the reference cards as to what the effect is. You did not get gypped a card you just didn't make in time for the kick starter. With that said this is still an awesome set to have even if you never give your players a chance to play with this deck they have awesome artwork and are fun to keep out in open to mess with the players heads. I used them in one of my games and it worked out beautifully.

I got the Kickstarter edition, but I expect this deck is almost the same

*****

I got the Kickstarter edition, which I expect to be just like this one except for a couple small changes: The side says "Kickstarter Edition" and inside there is one extra card, "The Beginning," a Kickstarter exclusive card that has a beautiful and cute picture of a dragon hatchling coming out of its egg. Oh, and a note on the rule sheet card for what "The Beginning" does.

In any case, the deck is beautiful and high quality. The tuck box is slightly oversized so there's room to pop in extra cards if you somehow acquire something you want to add. (I picked up "The Happy Squirrel" joke tarot card at GenCon from GameCrafters and found it was the same size, so added it to my deck.)

Rather than describe all the cards, I'll just link to Analog Games online Deck of Many Things which shows the whole deck:

http://domt.analog-games.com/

The four new cards--Strength, Wizard, Wolf, and Sword--are pretty cards and well balanced with original deck.

I should also note that I collect decks and have all the Deck of Many Things printed thus far save the Green Ronin one. These are larger than the deck that comes with Madness at Gardmore Abbey, better quality printing than the old cut-out-yourself deck with the George Barr art from the old issue of Dragon, and better all-round than the fan-made one I got years ago. Probably the nicest version thus far.

Anyone else wish that these were available as an app, like the crit and fumble decks are? They look awesome, but I am huge fan of my toys...

I, for one, have participated in several campaigns where good old Deck of Many Things have led to the ruin all active PCs.

GMs, consider twice before unleashing these cards on your campaign :)

Hey, it is not the fault of the DM if players are unable to control their impulses...

Not an app, but how about their online deck generator?

The sample images look real nice. This might need to be picked up. :-)

They are quite beautiful in-hand as well—just add a nice leather carrying pouch and you should be golden. :)

It is if the DM constantly asks every few minutes, "Hey do you want to draw from the deck? You know you want to." No! No I don't. I've gotten enough crap from that deck.

My gawds that was annoying. -.- So glad I don't play with him any more.

Glad to see that the deck is being well received please feel to ask any questions. But yes, please draw at your own risk . . .

Beautiful and (and sometimes funny) cards - very glad I got this deck (through the Kickstarter).

I too acquired this deck through the kickstarter. If anyone is thinking of sleeving the cards, I found Fantasy Flight Tarot card sleeves fit perfectly.

So i purchased these on Friday, on Friday they stated available not pre-order or anything like that. My order still states pending, and now the product states unavailable. I fully understand if they sold out as these look amazing from what i have seen, just curious if any one has any info on what has happened?

Ok that's what I figured was just curious, thank you

What are the four new cards, and what do they do, exactly? If that can be shared here.

Strength, Sword, Wizard and Wolf. All four have two possible effects (generally weal-and-woe oriented), determined by a dice roll when drawn. Strength will permanently increase or decrease your Will save, Sword makes you more or less effective for the duration of the next combat, Wizard increases or decreases your intelligence score, and Wolf grants lycanthropy with either controlled or involuntary transformations.

Thank you, DankeSean.

The publisher was having some technical difficulties regarding my most recent order. They assure me that they will get stock sent out post-3.0 haste, but I don't have an exact date.

These are fantastic. Buy them. :D

I did.. but still waiting on shipment.

Some of the draw effects seem problematic, as they occur at some undetermined future time.

Comet - Single-handedly defeat the next hostile monster or monsters encountered to attain the next experience level.

That's not easy information to convey in-character.

Flames - Fight a randomly generated outsider to the death, and assume that it attacks the character within 1d20 days.

Someday soon a random outsider of unknown type/power will fight you to the death? Unhelpful.

Rogue - One of the character's NPC friends (preferably a cohort) is totally alienated and made forever hostile. If the character has no cohorts, the enmity of some powerful personage (or community, or religious order) can be substituted. The hatred is secret until the time is ripe for it to be revealed with devastating effect.

So the drawer has no clue about the card's effect. "Huh, guess this one was a dud..."

The Fates - Avoid (or reverse) even an instantaneous occurrence if so desired. Note that this card does not enable something to happen; It can only stop something from happening or reverse a past occurrence. The reversal is only for the character who drew the card; other party members may have to endure the situation.

Vizier - This card empowers the character drawing it with the one-time ability to call upon a source of wisdom to solve any single problem or answer fully any question upon her request. The query or request must be made within 1 year. Whether the information gained can be successfully acted upon is another matter entirely.

As cool as these last two are, it would feel unsatisfactory to me to have a tattoo appear on the back the the PC's hand along with a mental download advising them of the specifics of when it can be used. I would probably try to insert an encounter with some fey creature in trouble, who "blesses" the PC with the effect stipulated by the card when given the needed assistance. But then like the Rogue, the card will appear to have no effect when drawn.

Any updates an the availability of these?

Well, I didn't realize that this item was not "available" in that one can still order it. I placed an order on April 4th and realized it was still pending... I wish they would have disabled the order button or put this item as out of stock. Are their any plans on making more?

For those attending PaizoCon, there will be some at the store as well.

Just ordered 2 packs but they have a backorder status. I noticed the last post is pretty old. Are these still going to be available?

I had ordered mine back on March 30 2017 and Just got them in the mail TODAY (may 2nd 2017). So it does come eventually!

Picked up a deck a few weeks ago. This is a gorgeous deck! It will rest lovingly beside my Harrow deck.

Do these include The Void card? I am looking on the Analog website and am not finding it among the card pictures.
