Typical of the D&D tilesets, this one has several of the same patterns, just in different sizes and variations. Once again, you get several 5x5' tiled floor pieces, but this time they have patches of grass. You also get several pieces of dense woods, useful, but not enough to have as many as have been included. Also worth noting is that there are no shaped pieces as in the previous set, a dissapointment.
As mentioned in the previous review on this product, several tiles can be combined to form a dungeon of sorts. While fantastic for the mini battlers, the pieces have black spaces seemingly representing pits surrounding the layout. This really limits their functionality.
This set includes some pieces that will see alot of use by DMs who enjoy the great outdoors. The large tiles are wooded clearings and meadows with downed trees. The large unique pieces worth mentioning are the webcloaked meadow and the plein-aire temple, both of which are beautiful and useful. Additional unique pieces include a wishing well, a pond with lillies, more webs, a patch of briars and several downed trees.
Overall, a nice set, however I feel only about 1/2 the tiles are of the sort I would reuse and there are is an awful lot of pavement in these woods. The inclusion of black pits outlining many of the tiles is a real turn off and severely limits them (or at least forces players to stretch their imagination). A nice set, but not an improvement over previous offerings in this series.
*As a sidenote, the smaller pieces fit nicely into an old M:TG booster box that has had its pop-up lid taped down.
(Darn! the original text disapeared!)
Since i failed to snatch a second copy of "Ruins of the Wild", the first wooded and out of print tile set (why btw?), i was eagerly waiting for this one.
Unfortunatly, i found it a bit lacking. Way to much ruins, wich could still be useful but, why the hell are the ruins all surounded by black pits? I like the big shrine like tile but, the other side is a bust for me: 1 tree in the middle of the tile and 2 sets of giant spider webs going north-east and south-west. I don't know about you but, i don't have my players fighting spiders each and every time they go in the woods!
On the plus side, the art is very good and there's still some good stuff to add to the other set (if you were lucky). But like most Dungeon Tiles set, i will not be buying a second set.
