WizKids tries again, with their patented Clicky Dial miniatures system... and this time, the result ain't half bad. Truth to tell, ALL the WizKids clicky games have started out pretty well, but this one shows what they've learned by previous mistakes.

1. The starter ain't random. You get the same six figures, and this is the ONLY place you can get those six -- they don't come in the boosters!

2. The figures are not bad. Chainsaw, in particular, is a HOSS in combat, and the power of these non-unique figures means it's almost worth the coins to buy more than one starter set, to have multiples.

3. The two-sided map includes two locales you'd expect to see in a horror game -- a graveyard and a haunted house.

Note that this game is NOT HeroClix, or Mage Knight -- it's unique to itself, and has little crossover value. It includes various new rules, including Frenzy, Blooded, and rather than "bystander" tokens, you now have "victim" tokens which can empower your creatures if you get them first. Note also that not all creatures are evil -- Bishop Luzifer, the Vamp Hunter, and the Faith Priest, among others, gain by SAVING victims, rather than snacking on them.

It's not perfect -- if you're really planning on getting into this game, I'd recommend checking their web site for the errata, as there are several mistakes (I hear they're going to correct this in future editions, though).

If you liked WizKids' previous clicky games, or you're a horror buff, I'd recommend the starter. It's well worth it, includes everything you need to play, and is a hoot besides!
