In a game centered around battle, it's no surprise so many adventures involve heroes facing off in mighty arenas. The latest Flip-Mat release brings the hollering crowd and blood-soaked pitch to life in glorious color. You'll set the scene immediately, but immortality on the field of battle—that's up to your players.
This portable, affordable map measures 24" x 30" unfolded, and 8" x 10" folded. Its coated surface can handle any dry erase, wet erase, or even permanent marker. Usable by experienced GMs and novices alike, GameMastery Flip-Mats fit perfectly into any Game Master’s arsenal!
On tabletops across the world, the Flip-Mat Revolution is changing the way players run their fantasy roleplaying games! Why take the time to sketch out ugly scenery on a smudgy plastic mat when dynamic encounters and easy clean-up is just a Flip away?
This is another great map to have in my DM's tool box. I only wish that they populated the stands with people- not jammed packed but having spectators would have added a nice touch.
I really ended up liking this map, it was a gift from my gamers. They wanted bloodsports and the life of a gladiator. Well they got it, with a vengance. The detail on this map is great, squiggle in bloodspatter here & there with a red marker, it makes for some real fun.
But what's so funny about this map was how it not only works for aquatic battles, but using it as the Arena at night also works, in which the less savory citizens and disgruntled guildmasters pit thier finest against one another.
After all the arena isn't just for kings & queens anymore! Maybe a vampire lord hosts the arena by night?
This looks good but I'm divided about whether the flip side really needed a waterlogged arena.
It's an interesting idea for nautical battles or even having hapless gladiators wading through the waters defending themselves from aquatic monsters, and might inspire an adventure on the idea alone.
I would've liked to have seen the other side being something like the basement below the area with slave prisons and pens for the gladiatorial animals.
Another only-one-side-is-good map....
One side is good and the other side is virtually the same.
I wish they would put a dungeon on the back of these Rinse & Repeat maps. Dungeons are ALWAYS useful.
This flip-mat is near-perfect. Everyone can see what it looks like on the product page. It's a gladiatorial arena, and a very nice looking one at that. It is perfect if you need a gladiator arena in your game (and who doesn't?).
The flip-side is the exact same arena but filled with water for nautical combats (as were done historically). Is this water-bourne side really neccessary? Probably not.
A different type of arena, maybe a chariot race track or something like that, possibly the underground staging area with connected gladiator's chambers would have been more useful.
Still this is a solid gaming mat that has a high use value in my opinion.
