The Steel Sqwire Flip-Mat is designed to make your game portable & affordable. It is constructed of durable laminated card
stock (~70 lb paper—comparable to that of a restaurant menu).
The Flip-Mat is 24" by 30", and it quickly and conveniently folds to a size slightly smaller than a sheet of notebook paper: 8" by 10". One
side is printed with 1" squares; on the Flip side, there are 1" hexes.
When mapping out your adventures you will no longer have to worry about the markers that you or your players may be traveling with. The Flip-Mat can handle wet-erase, dry-erase, and permanent markers.
This gaming aid is great for conventions, new gamers, or Game Masters who want multiple mats to pre-draw separate encounters.

Mine is starting to wear out, but having a hex map on one side and grid on the other can be quite useful for outdoor exploration type adventures. You folks should consider a rerun of these, particularly with Kingmaker being out there.
I used a large Chessex Battlemat for years for my Battletech and Champions gaming. It was great for large Battletech games, but took up too much space and was too easily stained for Champions. Recently finding this product was a godsend. It erases cleanly no matter what I draw on it with, it folds up to fit in my notebook easily, and it has just enough space for most situations. It could stand to be a row or two wider or longer, but that's a quibble. This stands out as a fantastic, deceptively basic, product that no game master should be without.
I actually ordered the market one (as I never use hex) and ended up with this one, but hey, this is a no nonsense battle map that does the job (and Paizo customer service being fantastic, they're sending me a free market map :)). It folds up to slightly smaller and A4 which is way more convenient than carrying a rolled mat around. It's not huge, but it's certainly big enough for any fight and for drawing small maps like warehouses on. Two will cover a reasonably sized dungeon as it will only be 4 inches narrower than a Megamat. It's *very* easy to erase dry, wet or permanent marker from it which means for maps that are too large you can draw them out room by room with dry-erase without much disruption. Even dry-erase doesn't seem to rub off too much in transit which is handy. It is a little bit flimsy and sure, if I'd paid megamat prices I'd be very disappointed, but for such a cheap price and considering you can use whatever pens come to hand on it, this is an awesome purchase. I would recommend getting one of the graphic ones if you don't use hex though, as you can always flip them over for extra mapping area.
....this is by far the best thing that happened to my games. I'm a DM and have been for years. This mat does wonders for my games. The best part of it is you can use it over and over and over again. This makes gaming fun and fast. And the clean up is great as well. I recommend this mat for anyone playing table top rpgs.*****
I found this map to be a great boon in the last game we played, as it was low cost and easy to alter. I handled the mapping for the DM, and it worked out great. What's even better is that when you get your markers for the map, you can get one of those Multicolored packs and use each color for differing terrain or features on the battleground. You can use orange to show the brazzers, blue for water, and so forth.
The map being dry erase is great because you can map things out on the fly, not needing to worry about how to fold things to keep certain parts of the area secret. Finished with one corner of the dungeon? Bust out the eraser and redraw.
I got tired of spending huge money for the megamats and was looking for a good, less expensive alternative. This is it. I like the squares and hexes because the games I GM use one or the other so it makes it multi-useful. I definitely think it is large enough to handle most of what I need to draw. If need be, I can always buy a second one and still come out ahead instead of just buying 1 megamat. The folds are easy to fix, too, just fold opposite.
Originally I had trouble getting permanent markers off of this mat, but I was then informed that all you need to do is write over it with dry-erase markers and it comes off. Worked like a charm!
I highly recommend this mat to any and all DMs, I just got finished pre-drawing all the maps I need for my upcoming session so I can save time while we're there.
I was even able to plan out where to draw rooms or encounters so that I could leave part of the mat folded to hide rooms they havent gotten to yet! Great buy.
I'd suggest the ones with the graphics on one side (like the tavern, city, etc) over a basic one unless you have a use for hex maps, but these are well worth having, even multiples of. They just work so well and store so easily.
P.S. For the person having fold problems, you're supposed to refold it the opposite way that it comes in, and that removes all the folds. At least it has for the several our group has gotten. (may be explaining it poorly, but you can find instructions for doing so somewhere official)
Yeah, it's smaller than you'd expect. And it doesn't lay completely flat without some jiggling. The claims about its versatility are true and that makes it a great all-purpose mat. I think it's a great small mat for add-ons but if you want to draw an entire scenario, you'd better pick up a second one. Or buy a Megamat (which I did).
While everything I've read about it is true, I am somewhat disappointed by the fact that it doesn't fold flat.. I have to lay heavy books on it to try and remove the fold creases. I guess I was hoping it would be like those plastic folding maps where they took special care so the folds wouldn't hold when open. Oh well, the folds aren't that bad and overall it is a good map; you really can erase permanent marker from it, though I don't know how long I'd leave it there.
