I started playing D&D back with the basic set and was thrilled with the Advanced books. I really enjoyed 3.5 and thought I would give 4.0 a try after not playing for years. I tried to like it but they tried to hard to make it like WoW or something. I felt I wasted my money.
Along comes my little bro and he tells me that Paizo is making 3.5 but better. I went right out and got the core book. I am amazed. What a well thought out game. SO far there is not one ascept I have been disappointed by. I am looking forward to using this system for many years to come.
I've followed the new rules for the Pathfinder system through the Alpha and Beta versions, printing out several versions with "borrowed toner" from my office. I really love the final version of this book especially since you can trace the evolution of the revisions based on the interaction with the game-testing community. The layout is familiar, but with new innovations that make the content seem new. Also, I think that the captions between chapters suck you into the dynamic of the iconic characters.
Also, on a personal note, the choice to go to a 4th edition when there was still so much to enjoy in 3.5 made me angry. Seeing just how well Paizo kept the 3.5 rules alive with only relatively minor modification makes me feel like I wasn't alone in wanting 3.5 to live on.
I am SO grateful for this book and this system.
Usually that's what most people would tell you when you have a good thing. Mostly because when one does try to do so... They only ruin it. Which you can find in many new editions of other systems. Pathfinder however, does it right. It really fixed a lot of the issues of 3.5 while not touching the things that worked just fine. I'm a proud player, DM, and owner of the system.
My game group REALLY did not want to make a switch to 4.0 (quite frankly, it sucks) but wanted to keep playing DnD in the same genre and feel it has had for the last 30 years. At the same time, 3.5 had become too big for its britches with all the expansions that often included an almost inherent ability for munchkins to min/max the joy right out of the game.
This rulebook does an excellent job of cleaning up some of the bad from 3.5 (i.e., the new CMB CMD stuff is GREAT), while keeping the feel of high adventure in a well-written rules system. Unless Paizo does something really weird with the game, my group will be investing in this system for many years to come.

Definitely an notable game, and a delightfully fun activity. I've been playing for some time now, and it has certainly proved superior to both 3.5 and 4th edition. Plus, with over 500 pages, it is definitely a great deal! Most definitely worth the time and money!

I would just like to say that Pathfinder is everything that 4th Edition was supposed to be. It is very much a better an updated version of 3.5, but with just enough changes and advancements to keep it interesting. Good job people.

Thank you Paizo! You have made an old (style) gamer very happy today! I was dreading the possibility of me having to get out of fantasy roleplaying altogether once i ran out of the published material I had (have no real interest in learning a whole new system). You have just saved my game and ensured a very loyal customer for years to come. I look forward to the new system and have just placed an order for the new book!
