A dungeon adventure for 2nd-level characters.

The crown of the kobold king will be anointed in blood.

Five children from the town of Falcon’s Hollow have gone missing, dragged off into ruins underneath a cursed dwarven monastery. Soon they will be sacrificed to the crown, all to the glory of the twisted King of the Kobolds. If they are to be saved from this gruesome fate, brave heroes must follow their trail to the monastery and plumb the depths of its trap-laden and monster-infested halls.

This dungeon adventure, compatible with the world’s most popular fantasy roleplaying game, includes details on the town of Falcon’s Hollow and the deadly dungeons underneath a nearby ruined monastery. There are terrible dangers waiting for your players in the halls of the king, but they must be overcome if the player characters are to save the children.

This adventure can also be run as a sequel to GameMastery Module D0: Hollow’s Last Hope.

Written by fan-favorite author Nicolas Logue, Module D1 will be the backdrop for a huge, three-dimensional "delve" event premiering at Origins 2007.

GameMastery Modules are 32-page, high-quality, full-color, OGL-compatible adventures for use with the world's most popular fantasy RPG. All GameMastery Modules include four pre-made characters so players can jump right into the action, and full-color maps to enhance play.

Reviewer: The Last Rogue

A lot of good stuff here. A unique kobold compound that meshes well with D0, a duo of interesting and cool new monsters, and a nice smooth plot; all of which adds up to a quality dungeon adventure.
If there are any negatives, they are small. The treasure in some cases seems a bit odd or much, and the art is not as good as the other modules, but neither of these things obscure a very fun module with well-thought out encounters and tough low-level challenges. Get it!

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Great low level module
Reviewer: Kane

After picking up D0 at free rpg day, I was expecting greatness with D1 and I wasn't disappointed. The main goal and its impacts on the local community really holds together and makes the setting feel more "real." The first big enounter is also very, very good. One of the best, if not the best, low level encounter I've seen. Only one negative, there is one creature/being on the first level that I thought was overpowered for a 2nd level party that was probably already a little roughed up. I haven't run it yet, but I'm expecting it will kill off half the party at least. Having to beat that encounter to complete the module will be tough. I like having an encounter that is above the party's ability to force the players to think and realize that not every encounter has to be fought, but this one has to be fought. I'll be interested in seeing more reviews after people have run the module.

I haven't run this yet, but I have read it thoroughly and love what I see. Great art, clean, magazine-like layout, and scary Kobolds.

There are a few logical flaws (unguarded orphange in a dangerous, remote wilderness?), but nothing major. An hour with this module was enough to convince me to subscribe to the modules.

If Paizo keeps up this way, I really see no reason to go anywhere else for my adventure needs. I'll say one thing for sure...it really takes the sting out of losing Dungeon. Highly recommended.

I received my pdf and I must say that I am very pleased with the layout of these gamemastery adventures. They definitely have the paizo seal of quality attached. I know you guys are going to hate me for this, but the kids ruined this adventure for me. Maybe it's just me, but trying to rescue 5 seperate kids(close to teens even) and having the party interact with them as the adventure continues turns what could have been a very dark and scarey module in to a PG emo-fest. It just made me feel like this adventure was geared towards a younger audience. I really like the kobolds, but in my head I see those nasty fellas taking 2 month old babies in the night instead. That said, I always enjoy Logue's adventures and this was very well written, but it was just too soft for me.

Well I wrote a long review that I guess timed out so I will make this quick.

This is my first review and I am writing it because this module was so awesome.

I loved the adventure background written in the first person for the kobold king. Creative encounters such as the forge spurned (the name needs work for this monster) and the ghost that wasn't was one of the coolest encounters ever.

I was looking forward to getting my hands on this module as it comes from the amazing Paizo crew and it deals with one of my favorite denizens of D&D of all times. Once I finish running the Savage Tide for my players I will be jumping into this adventure as an introduction to new characters that I plan to run the Pathfinder series with.
The story is great, with just the right balance of adventure, humor, role-play and a nice number of surprises and unique situations worked in. A top of the line adventure that I look forward to putting into motion. Thank you Paizo!

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar One-shot Adventure, Campaign Seed... a Winner in any case!
Reviewer: Benoist Poiré

D1 - Crown of the Kobold King is a great adventure which involves some investigation, wilderness (temperate) adventuring, some dungeon crawling and plenty of occasions to role-play.

I think any type of D&D group can find something to love about D1. Tactical encounters? Check. Opportunities of role-play with denizens of the dungeon and beyond? Aplenty. Variety in sceneries and types of actions undertaken by the group of PCs? Sure. Some cool crunch to add to your games? The Slurk and Forge Spurned are great creatures with plenty of flavour and cool abilities.

The layout is great, clean and yet with a nice touch of color. The art is outstanding, vivid, colorful and dynamic. The cartography is great. The glossy paper is an awesome touch.

What's to dislike in D1, really? To put it in a single word: nothing. Some campaign seeds are even included with the adventure, in case you want to go on with adventures in and around Falcon's Hollow.

Great product, great adventure. Top notch.

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar DMs subscribe, you won't regret it!

After reading through D0: Hollow's Last Hope I was enthralled with Paizo's new line of modules. There was alot of creativity and quality in the first module so I subscribed. D1: Crown of the Kobold King proved to me that this product line is worthy of a subscription.

There is something for everyone here. For DM's who just want to run something memorable without alot of effort to those DMs that like to create their own homebrew adventures, this one has something significant to take away with you.

I honestly could have used products of this quality decades ago, my gaming life would have been that much more rewarding.

it's driven deep into the turf! Nick has done an excellent job with the first full adventure in the GameMastery series. Nick does a great job of giving good background and supporting info about the town and locals, as well as the resolutions without bogging down the pace. The use of sidebars is very good, as well. The kobolds are vicious, the story is solid, there are two great new monsters. Let me put it this way... spiffy ability: Belly Grease?? Tell me more...

The only major problem I see with it is that it will be sadistically pummeling to some parties. There are some carnage-inducing encounters and traps that MUST be overcome to be fully successful. A wand of cure light wounds or some similar healing bump will probably be critical. A couple bad rolls and your party is in a world of hurt with a long way to go and little time to rest. It adds to the tension, certainly, but it could go south real quick.

Bottom line: great story, really strong villains and monsters, good supporting artwork...this is an excellent buy!

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Excellent production
Reviewer: farewell2kings

I just got the print copy and what a wonderfully glossy, shiny, high quality product it is. I know it's expensive at $12.99, but it is even better quality (much, much better) than any other printed module I've ever seen. The maps are gorgeous and on thick card stock and the glossy pages just jump out at you. The module by Nicolas Logue is a great piece of work as well. Loved the colorful descriptions of the kobold king and while the plot appears simple, the complex NPC descriptions, designer notes and especially the notes about what the NPCs do after the adventure is over are really great ideas and well done. If this is what Gamemastery modules will all be like, I'm all there!!!

Just read this today after picking it up at Origins. What an excellent adventure all round. A beautiful integration of well-designed challenges and thoughtful storytelling.

I am particularly happy with the flavour of the unique magic items throughout. Lots of stuff that is so much cooler than a +1 sword.

I'll definitely tie this to D0 when I run it. Someone suggested having the kids be motivated by the heroism of the PCs in Hollow's Last Hope to set things rolling in D1. Beautiful idea that I will completely steal.

Good Job Nick!

Diamond D, while choice, does not make an appearance in D1. Though he could be coming to a Shadowrun gaming table near you in the future!!! :-)

I just recieved my physical copy of D1, and may i just say that the quality is excellent. I had already perused through my pdf file of it, and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure, having it actually in my hands has made it so much more appealing. It almost made me want to throw away my printer.

Applause and congratulations to you Nicholas Logue for a great adventure, and thanks to Paizo for an excellent product.

I bought the adventure the other day at a FLGS, and while I really liked the flavorful magic items, they seemed a bit overpowered/expensive (even with their drawbacks) for an adventure that takes a characters from 2nd to 4-5th level.
