To the person that reviewed this above. Double check you have the .Net Framework installed it asks for. You can find this in your Control Panel under Add/Remove programs. You may need to check the box at the top that says Show Windows Updates. If that is not the problem go to http://www.rpgxplorer.com and download it from there. I have downloaded this multiple times and my gaming group uses it extensively without any problems. So you either have a bad download of it or you don't have the correct software installed for it to work right. However if you have done all that and still have a problem go to their website in their forums and ask for help.

Anyone know how well this compares to DMgenie software?

I have both, and they are very different. This version of RPGXplorer is just a character sheet generator and rules reference. You can track inventory, equipment, experience, etc, but it is not designed to be used in-game like DMG. They are working on a separate DM tools version for that. They are also working on adding "Familiars, Animal Companions, Special Mounts, Mounts and other Companions" to the player version in the next update.

RPGX also has free datasets for pathfinder available on paizo.com and rpgxplorer.com.

DMG, assuming you are familiar with it, does just about everything, but is difficult to customize some things. RPGXplorer does not do as much, but is much easier to customize. I think it is also easier to use.

You will definitely want to download the trial versions to see what they can do, and how different they are. They are both good tools, but do some different things, and some same things differently.
