Fourwell is a small town of a thousand inhabitants situated in an area of vast grassy plains. The land is rich and fertile, and the area’s wealth lies in agriculture. Though the area features no large lakes or major rivers, rainfall and underground water are abundant. The northern part of the territory rises to low hills, while the south turns to sparse forest. The town and its inhabitants are fully described in the adventure module The House Under the Hill.

    This Blueprint presents five maps:
  • Town of Fourwell: an overview map
  • Magic Guild: The Magic Guild is situated in the southwest corner of Fourwell. The guild’s seat is a large longhouse whose trees were felled in the nearby woods a century ago. In the years since, the building has been reinforced with wall of stone and wall of iron spells from the scroll collection of guildmaster Nyrd.
  • Twin’s Theatre: This building featuring a large open-space area, provides common citizens and merchants alike with excitement and entertainment. It is run by the gnome twins Flix and Trist Paddler (both CN male gnome bard 1). Flix is a jovial fellow always ready to play comedies or exciting but trivial plays. By contrast, Trist is often sad and worried, and prefers tragedies and plays of great intellectual value (but sometimes questionable entertainment). The Theatre offers one or two shows during the week, with tickets starting at 1 cp. Popular recent productions include Invorath’s Ten Lunches, The Death of Bor Greybottle, The Fat Dwarf in Love, and The Monster of the Woods.
  • Militia Barracks: A local militia was founded twenty-five years ago to protect Fourwell from external threats (mostly wandering monsters and bandits) and respond to internal emergencies (thieves, fire, and so on). The militia currently has forty members who live in the barracks, a group of five buildings within a 10-foot-high stone wall.
  • The House Under the Hill: The House Under the Hill is a dungeon built by halflings. It is clear that the place was once a residence, but today it is claimed by giant ants and haunted by undead. The dungeon is composed of several rooms excavated beneath the hill. Though the entire structure is just one level, the giant ant tunnels could easily lead to new adventure sites.

The Blueprints product line offers you old-fashioned blueprint-style maps for your adventures and campaigns. Each map includes a blueprint version and a standard black-and-white version. The maps are all vector-based for maximum print resolution. Despite their old-fashioned appearance, each map offers a degree of customization by taking full advantage of pdf technology. A small control bar (which will not be printed) on each map allows you to turn the grid on and off, eliminate the room numbers, fill the walls, or hide doors and furniture.

    New Features Added!
  • "Rule the Dungeon" feature implemented
  • Enhanced customization (now doors and furniture are separate, for example)
  • Alternative hexagonal grid now available
  • "North" mark now available and orientable
  • Master control panel allows you to control all the maps at once
  • Buttons for printing only blue maps or black and white maps
  • NOTE: You must use Adobe Acrobat 6+ in order to use all the features of this product

Each 0one's Blueprints product features a classic fantasy adventure location: a dungeon, a keep, a temple complex, a thieves' guild and so on. You can use these maps as reference to build your own adventures or simply have them at hand in case your players go in an unexpected direction during the campaign.

While offering you the best quality, these products are really inexpensive.

An RPG Resource Review

Particularly useful if you want to make extensive use of Fourwell - as presented in the adventure The House Under the Hill - or just need a general small town, this mapset provides an overview of the township and more detailed maps of several major features. While some of this material is duplication (but in the Blueprint style) of maps provided in The House Under the Hill, there are additional resources not to be found there, in particular the catacombs under the magic guild and the town's theatre. Of course, even if you have The House Under the Hill, you may well want to make use of the extensive facilities provided by Oone's mastery of PDF technology to decide what sort of grid (squares or hexes) you want, do you need furniture to appear and so on.

The theatre is an interesting and unusual setting which could be used to good effect whenever your adventures take you to such a location, even if it isn't in Fourwell. A word of warning, though, if you are using it as part of Fourwell it's upside down compared to the main map... this can however be dealt with by use of one of the 'Rule the Dungeon' features which allows you to rotate the compass rose to change the direction of north as appropriate!

Overall, a useful addition to the collection - small towns seem to be quite rare, you usually get villages or bigger townships.
