Hey all, for those going crazy over the Orcus limited availability and if you are getting one, this one will be limited also, I just ordered mine.

There is no description here or pictures but here is a quote from WotC.

* There will be 4 Beholder minis packaged in a swanky display case.

* There are 3 brand new Beholder species that haven't been released in any previous minis sets.

* The Collector's Set will be very limited - I imagine something along the lines of the From the Vault products for Magic.

* You'll only be able to purchase these through your local hobby stores for the suggested retail price of 34.99.

*They will be available sometime this fall.

I stopped buying wotc material some time ago and already have a several beholder minis - an eye of the deep included in the set would sell me though. Can't wait for the pics.

On this one, I'm going to trust that all the collectors' stuff is just WotCi's new attempt to manipulate me and other members of the market. If I get it at Borders with a 40% off coupon, fine. If not, see ya!

Everything's collectible! Very limited numbers! Order 12 now from different venues! Preorder! Pay top dollar! Meh.

You must be going over to the Preston store because I never see you at the Bethany store when I'm using my 40% coupon any one of the two or three times per weekend.

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Tales, Battles Case Subscriber)

I'm almost equidistant from the Preston-Royal and Lovers Ln stores. There's also one on McKinney-Lemmon that is pretty convenient. I only hike to the Plano stores if selection is bad and I'm desperate.

Hey neighbors!

This one isnt as expensive so I might get it, but would be nice to see a pic. I preordered the Orcus on here but canceled it cuz I couldnt stomach the price. I'm glad I did drop it after seeing one at the Lone Star Comics in Mesquite.

I'm curious as to whether there is a short list of monsters that are strictly WOTC intellectual property of which Orcus and the Beholders belong. Their focus on these creatures is obviously by intent, which is understandable.

I don't think Orcus is on the list, he just features prominently in the first published 4e module series.

I know Mind flayer is.

Silver Crusade (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion Subscriber)

Orcus is OGL, thanks to Tome of Horrors from Necromancer Games.

And yes, that's a full package - the whole "goat headed, fat, artifact wand wielding Demon Lord of Undeath" thing is open content, not just the stats.

Qadira (RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32)

Round about October my Savage Tide game should hit Golismorga. I'm changing Kopru and Behemoths to Mind Flayers and Beholders.

This, and the two Reaper beholders I already have, will let me make some sick encounters!

/clicks on Preorder :-)

Howdy! You mean because you could get it in Mesquite, or because you were disappointed in the mini?

I was disappointed in the mini...

the paint job kinda sucked

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Tales, Battles Case Subscriber)

UGH. I hope it was just a poor one.

Already pre-ordered because I love me some Beholders. Anyone know what size they will be? I'm assuming since this is part of the Icons line that they won't be "large" but since there are 4 of them they won't be "gargantuan" either. So obviously my guess is "huge" but does anyone know for sure?

Bill Slavicsek had this to say on his WotC blog about this set:

"This fall, we’re rolling out a very limited edition of the Beholders Collector’s Set. This set of four large Beholder miniatures comes in cool packaging that can be used as a display case. Note that three of the Beholders are new types right out of Monster Manual 3 that have never been created in plastic before. The availability will be along the lines of our From the Vault products for Magic: The Gathering. You’ll only be able to find these sets at your local hobby store and only while supplies last. The MSRP is $34.99. Watch for more information on this limited edition item as we get closer to its release date."

Lisa quoted pretty much all the info that is available. But we can speculate a bit.

As you probably know, after the failure of the visible sets the D&D miniatures line is being revamped. WotC originally planned to release Streets of Shadow (40 normal minis) around February and Lords of Madness (40 minis with huges) during the summer. They canceled SoS and changed LoM to a 60 mini set which includes the pieces designed for SoS and LoM.

The rumor is 3 beholders were designed for the original 40 piece SoS and LoM sets. WotC decided to put them out as a special collector's set (along with a beholder that is expected to be a reprint). Since LoM was planned as a huge set, one of the beholders may be a huge.

Thank you to Lisa and Mandor! I guess I can live with them being Large, but Huge would be cooler. It really helps make them seem that much more intimidating. I do my utmost to keep my players cowering in fear (though it never works- they know I'm way too nice).

I already have the huge Beholder Eye Tyrant from the Legends of Evil set so I'm hoping these 4 are something kinda special.

Qadira (RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32)

What Beholder types are in the MM3? Anyone got it?
And any idea when a picture will be released? How soon after the announcement do they do that?

(Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber)

I thought there were only 3, one of which was medium sized. An "Eye-of Shadow", a "Ghost" Beholder, and the afforementioned Medium Beholder "Spawn", which seemed to just be a young/juvenile specimen.

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Tales, Battles Case Subscriber)

No Eye of the Deep? Sounds like they're doing some weird ones.

Yup - nothing new, all repaints or clear versions of existing beholders, from what i understand

Thanks to Anthony for the pics Now Linkified. This is exactly what I poked my nose in here for.

Yeah, wow...they are all repaints or clear versions.

The Ghost Beholder looks like a clear version of the Beholder Lich from Unhallowed.

The Eye Tyrant is the same one from Dangerous Delves.

And I can't tell which is the "Eye of Shadow" and which is "Snowball"...but I can tell that the models are the Eye of Flame from Dungeons of Dread, and the original Beholder from Deathknell.

Hmmm...I think the possibility of pre-order for me is now is question.

(Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber)

Hmmmm. Can't decide if I'm disappointed or not. On the one hand it'd be nice to have the extra beholders...yet on the other hand they're not exactly all that exciting. Especially since they're not new sculpts at all.

Decisions, decisions.

I definitely plan on picking this up. I dont have any of the beholders from previous releases so this is perfect for me. I picked up Orcus and he's the jewel in my crown of mini's.

Plus who wouldn't want lovable Snowball?!?

I'm still on the fence on this one. Last year, I sold off all of my rares to pay for my wedding, so I'm definitely out of beholders. But I'm underwhelmed by the lack of a single new sculpt.

I'm on the fence about this set as well. I don't think I'll be getting the Orcus mini either - $70 dollars seems pretty steep for what you get.

Andoran (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules, GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

They are cool enough to buy, although I think I will stick to two sets. One to collect, one to use/display.

The Orcus was expensive, but I really like him. He fits well with the collection.

I hope they continue to make specialty packs like these.

No Eye of the Deep and no Spectator = no buy. These are just recycled molds.

Maybe I'll check back with wotc when they decide to produce the missing green dragon from the dragon line.

Osirion (Paizo Charter Superscriber, Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber)

I would love to see the Green Dragon too.

I'm completely with you on both points. Not one single new sculpt? Come on, WotC! If you want our money you'll have to do better then that. And the Gargantuan Green Dragon? This really needs to be done to complete the Icon line.

(Pathfinder Adventure Path, Companion, GameMastery Maps Subscriber)

Lem_Furryfeet wrote:

I'm with you too here. New sculpts would've made this an easy choice for me. It's why I didn't get the Player's Handbook visible sets. My wife and I looked and could tell on sight they were repaints.

And as for the Gargantuan green, it should be Cyan Bloodbane with a Lorac, Raistlin and Dragon orb to complete the set. Because honestly, that's one iconic green dragon and those minis would fit excellently in the scenario for him.

Cheliax (Pathfinder Superscriber; Pathfinder Battles Case Subscriber)

Just wondering when this product will be shipping I pre ordered this a while back and I already saw one being displayed in my FLGS.

This is a collector set, so it is only worth its over inflated price if I was to buy it to "collect". Since I would use them this set is not worth buying since I would immediately make it non collectible.

Unfortunately, due to its limited availability we will not be receiving enough Beholder Collector's Sets to fulfill all of the preorders placed with us. Wizards of the Coast has allocated the supply of this product at the distributor level and all retailers will be receiving only a small portion of their total number of preorders. Because of this, purchases have been limited to one set per person, and orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis (based on when each preorder was placed).

We apologize for any inconvenience and if you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Thanks!

I am assuming since I got an email that my order is about to ship that I am getting it?

I saw this in my local gaming store yesterday. Thirty-five dollars buys you four plastic minis that would likely cost you two dollars each if they weren't in a large, artistic cardboard box with "collectors set" printed on it.

Every so often, a couple of times a year, I have a look at something Wizard's puts out and become more and more glad I jumped to Pathfinder at the dawning of 4e.

I'm really sorry about that :( I had to send one of those emails to a bunch of people and each time I hit "cancel" and sent the email, I just felt really bad knowing that I was being the bearer of bad news.

Don't worry folks, keep your eyes and ears open and maybe you will get lucky like my brother did. A couple of months after release my brother got the Orcus thing for half of retail in a store close out section.

Not a problem. Picked up a set at SciFi Genre. I don't blame Paizo. I blame WotC. :)

I'd just rather give you guys the money. :D

This set is a bit different then Limited Edition ones.

It comes in a unsealed box that does not require a knife to get in to.

Here are some pics.

White Box it came in

Beholder Collector's Set Box

Opened

The plastic covering the beholders slides right off and has no restraints.

We are very happy to be able to say that we have been able to get a few more of these in stock!

Over the past few weeks I have emailed the people who's preorders we had to cancel when the Beholder's Collector Sets were originally released to offer them the chance to reactivate their preorders. Some choose to reactivate their orders but some had already found sets elsewhere, which means we have a few left which we can now open up for ordering!

If you have an questions or concerns, let me know at customer.service@paizo.com

thanks

Got a box from someone as a Christmas present. Pretty cool, just thought I'd own up from my earlier, "Meh." Plus, the upcoming Dearth of PPPMs might make this look like the end of a golden age that I should have appreciated more. ;-)
