84 Minis, out a minimum 76, and was able to get the full collection. I can safely say that I am over all pleased, though I was hoping for more humanoid opponents, but can't be to grumpy since I did get a full collection, with a few doubles of key members. Add to this the ones Irecieved from random Store Boughts as well as a minion order from this site and the six-man Evil Booster and you have a good assortment of minis to choose from.
I am not a metal, custom painted type of mini collector. I like the minis painted and rugged. These are not rugged.
I love most of the sculpts and paints, but I've found these need to be handled far to carefully. I've had four of them break on me already, and that's just because I put them all in the same box (unpadded) to transport. These would be great minis if not for the brittle plastic.
One other thing of note, and this is to the entire line (including the forthcoming Runlords set) there are too many repeats. Too many goblins, too many duplicates of what can be found in that "other" line of pre-painted fantasy minis. What about some truly unique minis, like say a Froghemoth or perhaps a sahuagin or mite or something.
After buying one I can say that I am not impressed. 8 dollars for one large figure that is brand new is not a good deal. Adding insult to this poor purchase the large creature I got is well painted, but grossly undersized. I won't be buying any more of this line, but I will keep an open mind for future releases.
1st, i've bought 2 bricks and when i finally receive them, i was totally excited.
I opened 1st one and got no double ... wouaou .... they did it great
then i opened the 2nd one and still get no double ... wouaou
Then i compare all the mniatures .. and got 21 of 40 of them .. but all in double.
Excatly same bicks, same booster, same miniatures ...
If not i really like sculture and color and before all the lille details who remembered me my bestiary
Just got my case today. First off I have to say distribution was awesome. At least one of everything. I could have done without the 3 ettins but most others were pretty even.
Paint jobs. All in all very good. A few had cheek bone eyes and a few other misses but overall very good and on par with the best of my DND minis. The brown used on the mummy and skeleton I don't like so much but that seems a small complaint.
Scuplts good overall a few seemed off.
Packaging.... WOW... kinda crazy but at least in my case nothing broken or even really bent. That is really good but all the little boxes get crazy. My son made it through opening 2 bricks and lost interest and that never happened before.
Overall really, really pleased with the case. Looking forward to selling plasma for the next couple months so I can get the next set.
First impression ... Waoow I'm going to have to open ALL these little boxes??? Oooh s%@~.
I love a lot of them Ettin is fantastic, so is black Dragon (but a bit small for a huge one IMO), Giants, Ogres, Medusa, Vampire ...
since I don't have time to paint, it's just great !
- The only one I hate is the Gnome Fighter : Too bright and not too fighter like.. More like a rogue in fact.
Few remarks :
- Too many PC minis : I have 3 seela, 3 human rogues, 3 half elf cleric and so on. Not much use really. I wish I had more common monsters instead like skeletons or zombis (only have 2 of each) or anything else.
- Why providing a choice for the Frost Giant ? I am not going to change them all over. You could have made 2 disctinct minis one with axe, one with sword.... Shame I only got one of them but "c'est la vie".
- Now that I have finished unpacking the case : "what am I going to do with all these little boxes ?".
I understand the philosophy to have the same packaging for a single box or for a whole case... but that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
P.S. Also I had to add 52 Euros for the Toll and payment of VAT .... S!#! :(
Horrible sculpts and paint jobs, which is what should be expected from wizkids I suppose. These things are way too overpriced for what you get. My suggestion is to stick to the reaper metals because these are not worth the plastic they're made from.
For the most part, they look absolutely fantastic and yes, I did manage to get the entire set. The sculpting looks real good, and the paint looks great.
It's real nice to have great looking minis that I can actually use in my games.
Two things that prevent me from giving out 5 stars;
1) Some of the parts, arms and such, are already falling off where they were originally glued, and I haven't even used most of them yet. The Snake on the shoulders of the Medusa was broken in the package, which really surprised me considering all of the packaging that was used. Handling them gives me the feeling that if I'm not really careful, I'm going to break some of them.
2) after unpackaging all of them, setting them out on the table, and stepping back to take a look, I questioned my sanity about putting out that much money for what I got. I will have to really consider hard whether it's really worth purchasing future cases.
But they sure look purty! :-)
OH!! One of my players was looking at the CaveWeaver Spider and he is totally correct. The painting on the body is TOTALLY A TEDDY BEAR FACE! I wonder if that was intended. hmmmm...
OK! I have to revise my review. I will NOT spend this kind of money again for these minis unless they make some serious changes to the materials used. I now have at least 12 broken minis out of my collection. 2 medusas (base broke off one, base and snake broke off another), 1 ogre (club broke off), a few with broken weapons, heads broken....and I am NOT rough with my minis, but some of these require kids gloves if you are taking them from location to location. I now see the need for all the packaging. BIG disappointment. I've had my DnD minis for years and some of those have seen a lot of use. Out of about 3000 minis I have maybe 4 or 5 that are broken. This is nuts and definately not worth the price I paid.
I have bought several of the booster packs from my local game shop since the product launch and all in all I am pleased with the quality. The Miniatures are decently painted, on par with any other plastic mini (after all there is only so much a machine can do) and some are very nice (like the goblins).
I like the idea of the $3.50 medium and $6.50 large, 1 figure randoms. That way i don't feel cheated when I spend more and get less because the randoms aren't even close to what I need. At that price they are something I can throw in the basket in addition to my regular purchases.
These minis are worth buying, I recommend picking some up.
