Sometimes rules supplements read like the world-setting bible of frustrated novelists. Although solid world-building is a useful skill, you don’t always need four paragraphs of flavor text to tell you swords are cool, magic is power, shadows are scary, and orcs are savage. Sometimes a GM doesn’t have time to slog through a page of history for every magic weapon. Sometimes all that’s needed are a few cool ideas, with just enough information to use them in a game. Sometimes, all you need are bullet points.

#1 With A Bullet Point is a line of very short, cheap PDFs, and each one gives the bare bones of a set of related options. It might be five spells, six feats, eight magic weapon special abilities, or any other short set of related rules we can cram into about a page. Short and simple, these PDFs are for GMs and players who know how to integrate new ideas into their campaigns without any hand holding—they just need fresh ideas and the rules to support them. No in-character fiction setting the game world. No charts and tables. No sidebars of explanations and optional rules. Just one sentence of explanation for the High Concept of the PDF, then bullet points.

The High Concept: Feats to duplicate the abilities and traits of the classic pulp-era fictional barbarians, whose stories are one of the inspirations of the fantasy role-playing genre.

The feats included are:

  • Battle Lust
  • Great Thews
  • Iconic Barbarian
  • Melancholy
  • Mighty Stamina
  • Panther-Like Grace
  • Sudden Rage
  • Thews

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you...

This pdf is 3 pages long, 1 page intro/front cover, 1 page SRD/editorial, leaving 1 page for 8 new feats for barbarians, so let's check this out!

The feats are as follows:

-Battle Lust: Each round in which you crit you score with a weapon that has a x3 or x4-modifier does not count against your rounds spent in rage.

-Great Thews: Expend one round of rage for 10 minute-lasting rage power.

-Iconic Barbarian: Once per day, use a rage power normally usable only one time per rage an additional time.

-Melancholy: Suffer only half the penalty to any attacks, damage and skill-checks, but also gain only half the morale bonus.

-Mighty Stamina: Ignore the fatigued condition for 24 hours for expending 1 round of rage. The rage does not refill until you sleep for 8 hours.

-Panther-like Grace: Expend one round of rage for a bonus to dex-checks or dex-related skill-checks equal to half your class-level. Rather bland and without a bonus to reflex saves, not a good choice.

-Sudden rage: When rolling initiative, you may start raging immediately and add your Con-modifier to initiative.

-Thews: Spend a round of rage to gain access to a rage power for 1 minute.

Conclusion:
Editing and formatting are top-notch, I didn't notice any glitches. Layout adheres to SGG's 3-column standard and the pdf has no bookmarks, but needs none at this length. The feats are great and present iconic ways to enhance your playing experience of the barbarian, hearkening back to the pulp-classics of old. For one buck, you can't go wrong here and the feats present no balance-problems. While melancholy is rather powerful and might upset some games, it can also work VERY, VERY well in a game and a barbarian in my group tested it and immensely enjoyed it - surprisingly, the feat didn't unbalance my game. With one feat feeling rather worse and boring but the rest being better, I'll practically have to settle for a final verdict of 4 stars - a great investment to add some support for the unfortunately often neglected barbarian-class.

Endzeitgeist out.

3.5 Star review, some good, some not so good.

Bullet Points: Barbarian Feats by Super Genius Games

This product is 3 pages long. It starts with a intro. (1 page)

Feats (1 page)
There is eight new feats for Barbarians in this product, they are.
Battle Lust – increases crit damage on a crit.
Great Thews – gain bonuses to climbing, jumping and swimming.
Iconic Barbarian – may use a rage power more than once per rage, once a day.
Melancholy – you expect things to go bad, when you get condition penalties you only get them at half. On the flip side you only gain half of any moral bonus.
Mighty Stamina – can spend rage to ignore lack of sleep and remove fatigued condition, with rage.
Panther Like Grace – can spend rage to add to dex checks or skills.
Sudden Rage – can add a bonus to initiative if you rage during the initiative roll.
Thews – Same as Greater Thews only doesn't last as long.

It ends with a OGL and credits. (1 page)

Closing thoughts. The art work is black and white, and ranges from ok to good. Editing and layout was good. The feats are a neat idea. Feats that let you do other things with rage points. I didn't care for all the feats though. Thews and Greater had a very Tarzan feel to them. They work well but I am not a fan mostly cause I am not a fan of the rage powers they work on. Sudden Rage, Mighty Stamina, Iconic Barbarian, and Battle Lust where all pretty cool. Melancholy and Panther Like Grace I am not sure about, I think they both might need a little something more to be worth taking. But all and all for a buck if you are looking for some Barbarian feats it is worth picking up. So what's my rating? I am going to give this one a 3.5 star due to the cheap price and because two of the feats I didn't care for is a matter of personal bias.

Trust me, I'm a Succubus.

Mediocre

This PDF features 8 barbarian-themed feats of varying quality. The feats are usable, but as with most content of this sort it suffers from designers that don't do enough research.

Five of the feats are interesting - not particularly optimized but they do things that are appropriate for a barbarian.

Two of them are mechanically poor and more appropriate as traits.

One of them is just horrible and strictly worse than a core feat that already exists.

Designers: Do. Your. Research.

Third party content is not going to shake the stigma it suffers from until freelance writers stop making these sorts of errors.

Update [9/26/2011]

The poorly designed feat in question has been updated to something mechanically powerful and unique. I'd rate this product a 2.5 stars now. I would move it all the way up to 3 if the other mediocre feats were made more interesting and relevant.
