The Combat Pad initiative tracker is the ultimate tool for managing combat in your favorite roleplaying game. It is a wet- and dry-erasable board with a steel core, so the included magnets stick right to it! It is portable—about the size of a sheet of paper—so you can take it anywhere you're gaming.

Use it to quickly and easily track turns. Write the PC's, enemies', and NPC's names on the player magnets using a wet- or dry-erase marker, then place them in initiative order. Use the blue magnets for PCs, black magnets for enemies, and green magnets for NPCs. Hash marks label positions 0–25, making it easy to put the magnets in the correct initiative order. When the order changes, simply slide the magnets to their new places.

The turn indicator magnet points to whose turn it is; never accidentally skip someone again! As the round progresses, slide the turn indicator to point to the next player; it's now that player's turn. At the end of the round, the turn indicator will point to the next round magnet.

The next round magnet serves as a reminder to move the round indicator magnet. The round indicator points to the current round number, so you'll always know exactly which round it is! Write which round spells and effects expire in the notes section of the Combat Pad (e.g. "haste ends round 10"). Additionally, the notes section is a great place to record damage or anything else necessary to make combat run smoothly.

For tactical groups, delaying and readying guides make it simple to synchronize attacks—enemies beware! Slide the player magnet to the proper guide and avoid the confusion common with other initiative tracking methods.

    Each Combat Pad includes:
  • 1 magnetic wet- and dry-erase board
  • 2 combat round indicators
  • 8 player character magnets
  • 4 non-player character magnets
  • 8 enemy magnets
  • 2 next round indicators
  • 2 active turn indicators

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Best. Tool. Ever.
Reviewer: Mikhaila Burnett

Hate tracking turns? Hate missing someone's initiative? Hate it when your sticky note with hitpoints gets wet?

Then you will LOVE this product. I used this once, missing half the magnets, and have finally bought one. Sliced bread has nothing on this widget.

Bravo Paizo!

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar GameMastery Combat Pad - really useful
Reviewer: Tarrek

Hi there, my group uses one of these every session. I have even printed names and the cut & paste labels on the magnetic home made tabs, as we use it that much. I have placed it inside a plastic sleeve to keep the spare magnetic tabs behind the front panel, and placed a very think card as a solid backing. And been geeky enough to lanyard connect 2 pens to board... Hugely popular piece of gaming media, I know 4 others gaming group members have even brought these pads for their games around other venues... 4.5 outta 5 if I could score the pad properly. yours Tarrek

I'm the third person in my game group to have picked this up, not because we don't want to share, but because this product is really, really good.

I have used both pen and paper notes and computer software to keep track of combat information and actually found that this was quicker and easier to use.

Though I really enjoy having multiple character/enemy magnets and round order indicators, my favorite thing about this is that there is plenty of room left over for keeping notes.

Overall, one of the most useful DM tools I have encountered in a long time.

I love this for my game.

I did use two-sided tape to attach it to a $2 one-piece acrylic picture frame from Target so it can stand on its own and everyone at the table can see it.

Pics here:

I also printed out my players' names in appropriate fonts, cut them out, laminated them and used magnetic tape to make personalized character markers for them.

A very useful tool!

As long as this is produced I'll always have one by my side. This is the most used item that I've purchased from Paizo. Makes tracking initiative, tracking watch, tracking marching order and tracking spell or poison effects easy and quick.

Reviewer: Tilquinith

I really like the use and function of this product. It really helps speed up combats and also keep track of various effects and time during the game.

The only real complaint I have is that it feels just a little on the flimsy side, and also I wish it had a little stronger magnetic attraction between the magnets and the base.

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Nice idea but too small and flimsy
Reviewer: Gallo

This product is a great idea but not well implemented. The board is just too small. If you have 5 PCs up against more than two different types of enemies you run out of space. If it was at least 50% bigger it would work much better.

After trying it for one session we have just reverted to writing initiative along one side of our map board - it's quick, easy and everyone can see it clearly.

I'm going to put the board away and keep the magnets to use on a metal shelf off an old bookcase - works just as well and is bigger.

Reviewer: Loki the Planejammer

I've been using this wonderful little tool for about seven months now and can truthfully say that it has accelerated the game on a number of levels. Having a clear view of initiative order has reduced the "oh, its my turn?" factor hugely.

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Very useful
Reviewer: Paul Ackerman 70

This combat pad is extremely useful. Before the GMs of our gaming group had a printed spreadsheet we had laminated and used that for tracking. It was wet erase and worked well.

This is a whole new ballgame. The magnets are very useful in keeping order straight. You can move them around with ease if needed.

The section that is open for notes, again very useful.

I really like the size "about the size of a piece of paper" - it fits nicely in a binder or whatever. Plus, having something the size of your books makes it easier to carry.

This is not a "must have" - all you really need is books and people. However, it does make life as a GM easier.

Afterthought: Issues about being sturdy.. I've never had a problem with it. My fellow gamers that have them have never had a problem with it.
We have one that gets weekly rotation and it gets put through the wringer (game with 10 players plus dm) - lots of magnet and writing there. Not any real sign of wear and tear on the pad or magnets.

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Woo-hoo
Reviewer: Paul Watson

This is a must. Although the same effect can be achieved with initiative cards, this has really helped organise our combats.

We have another press run on the way, but we're not yet sure when they'll arrive.

Any new word on this yet? Last I heard was "late June".

Thanks.

THey had some production delays, so three weeks or so have been added to the date. We may - MAY - have a couple of cases worth to sell at Origins, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks Phil.

I guess my group will have to wait a bit longer for it. I unveiled a few Gamemastery items at my last session and told them I'd have the combat pad soon. Oh well. :)
