It has been a hundred years since the Shadow fell…

In the world of Midnight, the dark god Izrador reigns victorious. After three ages of scheming and war, Izrador has finally defeated the heroes and armies of the free races. Now the dark god rules the world of Aryth with an iron fist. Enslaved under the Shadow, the race of men leads an oppressed existence, and the Elves and Dwarves have retreated to distant forests and mountains, where their desperate resistance is slowly succumbing to the unyielding might of the Shadow.

It is a time of overwhelming darkness. The fickle flame of hope is almost extinguished, its dying light guarded only by those few heroes who still dare to dream of freedom.

With the Midnight Chronicles DVD, you can bring the gripping narrative of Fantasy Flight Games’ first ever full-length feature film to your home theater! A captivating story driven by a complex and compelling cast of characters, Midnight Chronicles explores the epic struggle between good and evil, in a world dominated by an oppressive and immortal tyrant.

Midnight Chronicles is FFG’s first full-length feature film, and the DVD brings this grim struggle into your home along with a host of special features and never-before-seen extras! Based in the dark universe of FFG’s ENnie-award-winning RPG Midnight, Midnight Chronicles tells the story of the legate Mag Kiln, who has been ordered to travel to the small Erenlander town of Blackweir to investigate the disappearance of a fellow priest. Blackweir is a unruly and dangerous place, where a corrupt mayor lines her purse through her own cunning, a mysterious resistance leader known only as “the Hunter” defends the townsfolk while hiding a dark secret, and a simple farm boy begins to discover his own untapped potential.

Along with his witty and roguish companion Kruce, Mag Kiln soon becomes entangled in an old mystery and begins to uncover not only the forbidden legacy of the town, but also the malevolent, prophetic force that grows within him.

Midnight Chronicles is the epic narrative that tells the tale of two legendary characters, one for the cause of good, the other for the cause of evil. This is the story of their rise and struggle as their destinies become intertwined with that of the world and the dark god that occupies it. With its release on DVD, this timeless story can unfold again and again!

Loaded with special features, the Midnight Chronicles DVD is an experience you won’t soon forget. Fantasy Flight Studios gives you a walk through the stunning visual effects in the movie. Scenes that didn’t make the final cut are brought to life in the Deleted Scenes, and the entire script is included in PDF form for you to read through. We’ve also included the rules for the Midnight Second Edition Roleplaying Game so you can experience the game behind the movie! In addition, you get a sneak peek at the nuts and bolts of Midnight Chronicles with our Behind the Scenes Featurette.

Finally, the DVD also includes a complete adventure module for use with 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons. This new scenario for a four-player party of first level heroes is set deep in the heart of Blackweir, prior to the events in the movie. Players will get a chance to interact with some of the characters found in the film, such as Loren and Gaelen Landring, Madame Lesher, and Grimnor. Each party will have a choice of using their own first-level characters or using one of four pre-generated characters.

*****

Midnight Chronicles DVD is excellent drama

I love this movie, the lead character Mag Kiln is fascinating, with a depth that you don't see in modern TV and each scene is dramatic. Also the the writing is internally consistent, there are no powers as the plot demands.

With a lower budget they have pulled off a better movie than either of the D&D films, and I think with an actual budget they could have surpassed the effects and choreography of shows like Legend of the Seeker.

I so wish this would have been made into a series.

This DVD is well worth you money. (I think I have now seen the movie 6 times at least).

Mediocre...at best

I applaud FFG for making this movie, but any Legend of the Seeker episode is clearly superior to this film. The dialogue is contrived, and the acting poor. Too many characters come and go without much development. The action is virtually non-existent and its few combat scenes lack any choreography whatsoever. To compensate for the small budget and lack of CGI, the producers attempted to focus on the story. It's a smart choice, but without any background knowledge about the Midnight campaign setting, the casual viewer would be completely lost as to what was going on.

The scenery is attractive and it was cool to see a 3rd party publisher's setting hit the screen, but unless you're a hardcore Midnight fan, you'll probably be disappointed.

Rewatchable

I was impressed, especially given the budget that an "independant fantasy" movie could have.

I liked the storyline, especially having main characters on both sides of the conflict (as opposed to having the show be about the "good guys" versus the "bad guys"). It would be cool to see this picked up by Sci-Fi network or something, or at the very least have another installment to continue the story.

Worth watching!
