Reviewer: Games_R_life

I've watched this movie 3 times in the past week and ave to say it is great! Even though its very "homemade" feeling it is a treasure! Its also a great way to explain the game to non-gamers!

"****ing Gamers."

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Pure gold, despite the lackluster production values

Buy it. Watch it. Love it.

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar National Lampoon meets the Game Table
Reviewer: Dom C

Dead Gentleman takes a sharp look at all the fun and wit at the game table in a hilarious way that has not been done since the Dead Alewives in their (now famous) Dungeons and Dragons skit.

As with any lampooning, exaggerated stereotypes and outrageous situations are tightly packed into one session. For anyone who has played an RPG, you'll either see yourself of someone you know in at least one of the scenes. For anyone who HASN'T played, the humor is still accessible. Stealing someone's pants is just funny; plain and simple. Shoe-string budget or not, that's a note-worthy feat.

Some of the sound is rather poor - location and microphone placement hamper your ability to hear everyone at times; especially the game master. You may want to watch it once with subtitles on for that reason. However, the quality is what you would expect from a low/no budget project, and as such I find that forgivable.

The ending is the weakest point of the entire movie, and primarily the reason I gave it four stars. I generally draw parallels to Monty Python & the Holy Grail in that regard - strong movie until the last three minutes or so where it simply just jumps the rails and goes into "who-the-what-now?" land.

I know many people who have considered Gamers to be a gateway (drug?) for non-players to learn about what an RPG game is like. While that is certainly debatable, I would say that it may be wise to warn any new person that this is a strong exaggeration.

Otherwise you may scare the bejeezus out of someone. ;)

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar I've never laughed so hard!
Reviewer: Blackdragon

Covers all the funny things that gamers do without being insulting! Almost everything they do in the movie I've had happen at least once at the gaming table!

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar The best
Reviewer: Brandon Inoue

I say that this is the best DVD that has ever been done by this troup. Their DVD debut is one that is not amateur by any means.
First of all, the Gamers is an awesome movie even for non gamers such as myself. I know plenty of them but I don't participate.
That being said, the movie is really well done despite shoestring budget, time constraints, and missing actors in certain scenes (watch the DVD commentary and you'll see). THe movie doesn't just survive on wit alone... it thrives on it.
The special features are nothing to scoff at. With several commentary tracks (the one with the actors is hilarious), behind the scenes, bloopers, previews, easter eggs, and a music simulator it is what all DVDs should be. A movie that is enhanced by its features so much, that the overall movie feels like several movies because of it.
Highest marks!

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Great fun!
Reviewer: Kevin B.

If you're a gamer this hilariously funny look into a gaming session at a college dorm will have you blowing soda out of your nostrils!

'The Gamers' follows the exploits of four gamers trying to hunt down and initiate the decisive battle against their characters' main nemesis "The Shadow".

The film masterfully switches between the gaming table and the actual adventure world. For example, seeing the characters attempting something in the gaming world but still hearing dice roll on a table-top right before an event happens is just too funny! If you're not holding your sides at the backstab scene, you're either not a gamer or undead.

This film is a "must have" for any gamers' DVD collection. I can't recommend it enough!

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Great movie
Reviewer: Benoist Poiré

"The Gamers" is a great movie that is full of witty jokes about fantasy role-playing, role-players and DMs. Many of its scenes are already legendary: "- I backstab him using the ballista!" "(DM): - You... you want to backstab the guy with a f***ing siege weapon?!"

Hilarious. The top is to watch it together with your regular RPG group. You will laugh so hard your ribs will hurt. Guaranteed!

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Totally twisted
Reviewer: Christine Herbert

This is the funniest, most twisted movie I've seen in a long time. Very funny, with tons of gamer in-jokes. To heck with production values, which are actually pretty decent considering. If you've ever played an RPG with paper characters, you will love this movie.

FullStarFullStarFullStarFullStarFullStar Absolutely hillarious.
Reviewer: Chillos Smith

This is a must see for any fantasy table-top group.

Somehow, I overlooked the "VHS" in the title of this, and so was completely surprised when my copy arrived today and it was a VHS copy. I think the confusion partly came from the description listing all the DVD extras and stating that the DVD is region free.

At any rate, it's not that big a deal. I still have a VHS player, but it might be a good idea to amend the description so that it's clear that this isn't a DVD.

Thanks!

I agree Navior .. I had to read that description 3 times to even see where the VHS was mentioned. Everything in the description relates to DVD's. That really needs some clarification.

Done.

That description was originally attached to both the DVD and the VHS, and the listing had separate buttons for purchasing the DVD and the VHS copy, so it was much more clear... at least, until the DVD sold out, and the "Add DVD/Add VHS" buttons were replaced by a single "Add to Cart" button.

(The DVD, by the way, went away because it was replaced by the Director's Cut DVD.)

Ah, that explains it. The new description is much clearer. The reason I went for this version over the Director's Cut was because I like having the original versions of things, although I may order the Director's Cut at some point down the line.

Thanks!
