Starblazer Adventures is based on the classic 1970s and '80s British comic series Starblazer. Each of Starblazer's 281 issues explored a whole adventure set within the vast galactic empires of the far future, giving this massive 632-page roleplaying game from Cubicle 7 Entertainment a wide variety of settings to explore. Starblazer Adventures is powered by the critically acclaimed FATE rules system. The Exchange

Thinking about picking this up, probably will use it initially to play a Star Wars campaign. I'd like to throw my heavily optimizing, d20-accustomed group for a loop and drop them into a game with completely different mechanics and feel but in a setting they all know and love.

Hopefully that combination of knowledge of the setting and lack of knowledge about the mechanics will lead to some fun, spontaneous roleplaying!

Anybody who has played or at least read this out there? I'm curious about how well it might fit my needs.


Rock & Roll Space Opera Adventure Game?

Will there be Queen music? I now have that music from Flash Gordon stuck in my head.

Also, I remember seeing ads for this comic back in the day, but I don't think I ever saw a book when I was buying and now...of course...I have to look into the series.

From what I've found, this thing is getting mostly rave reviews. I'm not familiar with the comic, but I might have to check that out.

Sigh...another thing to add to the massive backlog of videogames, pen/paper games, movies, and books I want to look into.

Not sure they need to. They aren't saying "this is the game Space Opera". They are saying this is a space opera adventure game. As in this meaning of the term: Spae Opera


Ah Space Opera..that brings back fond memories..the game where you could have Jedi/Lensmen.

Well, according to the US Patent & Trademark Office, they do actually own a trademark for the term applicable to science-fiction RPGs...


Well, if your familiar with the FATE system you know the mechanics of this game, and its definitely jam packed with cool ideas and creative energy. I have yet to play/run this game, but reading through it doesn't have me thinking I shouldn't have bought it, it has me thinking of when I can run it.

As for FGU, unless they are based in Europe, I don't think Cubicle 7 has anything to worry about. Cubicle 7 publishes under European Trademark laws.

I think the US propensity for giving Trademarks to people for words or phrases they did not create, and especially have been in use for decades, or longer, before they were even born as a company, or person, is just another example of retarded application of law in the US.

On top of that, the comic this game is based on has been using the "Space Opera" phrase for what? 30? 40 years? I have to check, but I believe the European comic is that old. Either way, likely far longer than FGU has been around and using it.

Actually, they "threatened", does not mean their threat had any legal merit. Only successful lawsuits prove such things.

He has only had the Trademark since 2003, and claims first use in commerce, which will be easily proven as false in court.

So I broke, and bought this. I've read the first few chapters, just enough to get a general feel for the game, and so far I'm pretty impressed. The system looks like a great way to have a more casual sci-fi game.

I'm really looking forward to running Star Wars using this. The Rock 'n' Roll element is definitely here and in full swing.


I snagged this a few months back and it's been a great read. VERY different in system than what I'm used to using, but I'm really itching to run something with it :)
