So I was looking to get a few dice and saw that this site offered pounds of dice from chessex and thought I would like that. But then I noticed this. After watching Gamers 2 Dorkness Rising I thought I would be a fan boy and buy the slightly more expensive one and get the bag.
Bad idea.
1st off, by comparison the material looks way more flimsy that the photo leads the seller to be and it's not even ivory or even plain while. It's an off yellow. Kind of like a nicotine stain.
2ndly the selection was absolutely miserable. Here's what I got
11 d2's (Who needs 11 d2's)
9 d4's (7 of which were the Homer Simpson D'oh Dice)
82 d6's (Who in their right mind needs 82 d6's not to mention that over 60-70% of them were small plain white die with nothing more than black dots)
30 d8's (Way too many here as well)
8 d10's (could have used a few more)
0 percentiles (except for the one written below)
0 d12's (except for the one written below)
10 d20's (6 of them were identical)
but there were a grand total of 5 die out of the norm
4 Barrel Die (2d20's, 1d12 & 1 percentile)
and 1 metallic die (a d10)
not to mention that 90% of the regular die were plain and boring with little to no cool features at all. At least 50% or more of the bag were white die.
If I had have know this was what I would have never even though of getting this.
I rate this 1 star... Only because they don't have an option for zero or negative stars.
Shoulda got the chessex bag.
There are so many better ways to spend your money I just don't know why anyone would waste it on this.
Paizo screwed up my order and sent me this product instead of the Q Workshop skull dice bag that matches their Cthulhu dice set (which I also ordered, and did receive; see my review). I sent the Skull & Bones back, even though I was only charged 8 dollars for it.
The bag is made of very thin, yellow cloth. The skull picture is nasty. The cord is too thick and white, it clashes with the bag. Overall it's very, very tacky and worth maybe a dollar, not anywhere near $20.
As for the dice, here's a run down.
D4: 4, all with the word "D'oh!" in place of the one.
D6: 91, all with pips, plus two more that just had a different colored circle on each side. A few of these d6es were very small. Most of these looked new and were relatively attractive, like what you'd expect from a decent traditional board game.
D8: 53, all translucent "gem" style. Most of these looked terrible, with splotchy painting in the numbers.
D10: 13, 9 percentile and 4 regular. Pretty ugly. One of the percentile was very small and came in its own little baggy.
D12: 1, ugly.
D20: 0.
This is a terrible value and a really embarrassing product. I just don't understand why anyone would buy this or be happy about receiving it.
I bought this figuring it'd be like another Pound 'o Dice (but with a much cooler looking bag).
Boy was I wrong. I'd say seven of every ten die was a d6 (in total I got more than 80 six-sided dice from this bag). Also, almost all of the D10s were the exact same one (ugly orange with white numbers), this wouldn't bug me except for the fact that they were all defective, half of the numbers weren't painted in and those that were looked incredibly poor.
What dice that weren't d6s or d10s, however, were pretty neat (there were a few nifty looking d6s and d10s but I could probably hold them all in one hand). The bag is fairly nice looking as well. However, overall I wouldn't recommend this to my friends.
Well worth the price, even if I got more D6s then I'll ever need lol. I did get one very odd die in the bag. Its a D10 with triangles where all the numbers should be. Odd yes, playable IDK, keepable heck yes. I might buy another bag =)
The fabric on the bag is a bit thinner and yellower than it looks in the picture, but is really quite sturdy.
Obviously, the dice are random and assorted so your mileage may vary, but I recieved enough dice of all sizes for the entire table.
I didn't receive many odd dice. I did get a number of these tiny little d6s that probably represent a choking hazard to small pets.
Some of the dice appear to be factory seconds, since the lettering isn't colored in all the way, but still roll correctly.
Seriously, this thing is real jumpstart to any dice collection. I bought it to replace my old dicebag which had been misplaced, and I am quite happy.
i found lots of great looking dice. and some wierd ones that i use all the time now. great buy for new players and old ones alike. I would sugest this bag to anybody.
I bought a second bag and all I got was six siders, not as happy that time.
Well, This is an EXCELLENT startup for a new D&D gamer, as it contains at least all the dice you need for your first, o 40 characters. lol, Seriously most of the dice are high quality and only a very few are odd or strange. I did recieve three dice number 2 and 4 on a d6 style cube, but with only 2s and 4s... it was, odd. ::smiles:: but! I also recieved several dice I now use every session.
plus who can say no to a free dice bag...
