These mats, first made available in 2002, build on Chessex's reputation for single-sided vinyl game mats. The specially made vinyl features the same eye-pleasing oyster color as their existing single-sided mats while being made in such a way to give a flat surface for writing. Using water-soluble overhead-projection pens (NOT dry erase, grease pencil, or permanent markers), you can write on the vinyl and remove later with water when the drawing is no longer needed.
Overall mat size is 26" x 23.5" (66cm x 60cm).

Agree with the other review entirely...very high quality product and worth every penny. Hexes and squares give the best of both worlds (I play GURPS too) and the smallish size is fine for my needs (though a larger mat may be on my wish list for later). Only disappointment is Paizo's 'bend and stuff' packing method which left the mat badly creased. I'm working to remove them and it should be okay though so I highly recommend the mat. Maybe ship it in a mailing tube?
I've been a gamer for more than 20 years, and Chessex has always been the best. They didn't disappoint me this time, either. The mat is a bit thinner than my last one, but very durable if any care is used with it. I use the squares for D&D, and the hexes for GURPS; it's the best of both worlds. Works well with over-head projector markers, but wash orange off quickly and don't leave any on overnight. Remove creases from shipping (paizo just bent it in half and shoved it into a box) by setting heavy books on it, and it's great.
