I'm glad you pointed it out! My check for transposed letters is considerably penalized when the word is in another language. :D

These things always make me cringe inside. I'm on a budget, so I can't purchase more than I already do. But I look at these 'going-going-gone lists' and think richer folks are gonna make off with the goodies before I get a chance.

Wake of the Watcher was awfully popular.

The PDFs will remain though, right?

Does this impending shortage of the earlier Adventure Paths mean that in the future we might see Anniversary Editions of Curse of the Crimson Throne, Second Darkness, and Legacy of Fire? (These are the remaining 3 that were released in D&D 3.5 form and not converted.)

Wait, does that mean you guys have more than 1000 "The Art of Dragon Magazine" hardcovers? Ouch ;-)

Arrrrg! I must own one of those Delux Collector's Edition versions of Rise of the Runelord.

Fine, I am having beans for the rest of this month, as long as I get my tome.

I consider it my single best purchase from Paizo other than my subscriptions.

Is there a particular reason why some of the Mummy's Mask adventure path books are going out of print when Paizo is getting ready to release the Mummy's Mask pawn set? I ask because I am fairly new to Pathfinder and I am interested in GMing APs that have the pawn sets. I already have RotR, but it seems like the other APs with pawns have out-of-print books. :(

I noticed that the Darklands Flip-Mat was on this, so I decided to grab that. Then I went through the rest of the list to see if there was anything else I wanted. As I hit the "Proceed to Checkout," it took itself off my shopping cart list. It had apparently sold out in the ~3 minutes it took me to read through the rest of the list of products on this one page.

So I just emptied my cart and didn't get anything.

I'm a little confused/concerned, and can't seem to find a clear answer in the FAQ. If a product is going out of print, will PDFs of the product be available? I don't want to buy a product until I actually run that adventure path...

Yes, PDFs remain available indefinitely. You can buy all the out-of-print Paizo books in PDF. Just check the product page for Burnt Offerings, the first AP volume and the first to sell out: still available in PDF.

Like Joana said, we keep all Pathfinder PDFs available so you will always be able to buy the product that way.

Mummy´s Mask already fewer than 1000? How much were printed overall?

Liberty's Edge

They don't give out exact numbers, but obviously they've gotten very good at estimating how many will sell.

I'm sorry to hear that. :(

Info mostly gleaned from Paizo responses to this question in the past:

Mostly, Paizo products don't go "out of print" but rather "out of stock" - they only tend to have a single print run, unless they're one of the RPG hardcovers (which sell enough ongoing copies to make reprints viable.) The paperbacks tend to be sold more in terms of a periodical (released monthly, then sold until they run out.)

If they're running out of stock, it's because they've simply sold out of the print run. The economics of printing usually make it non-viable to go back and do a second run, because they would have to print far more copies than they'd likely ever have a chance of selling. In addition to this, it would create unwanted competition between older APs and newer ones.

If Mummy's Mask is getting low on stock already, it shows something of a surge in popularity for that particular AP.

Unfortunately, the Pawn Sets tend to be released a few months after the end of the relevant AP. Your best bet for the future is probably to pick up an AP, put it aside for later, and then grab its pawn set once it is released. In the meantime, however, bear in mind that (as mentioned above) the PDFs of the APs will *always* be available, and I'd suggest snapping up copies of Mummy's Mask ASAP before they're gone :)

One thing to think about is that an AP that has less than 1000 copies, but more than 500 could actually stay in print for a year or so more. We don't tend to sell more than a few dozen a month of each volume once the AP has been out for a few months.

Of course, there are exceptions to that rule. But for the most part, ending up on the going, going, gone list means you have a year or so usually to buy something you might want. For the most part. No guarantees though.

It's interesting that there aren't any of the early issues of Mummy's Mask on the list yet. Presumably paizo print more of the early instalments of each AP than they do of the later ones - I wonder whether something has changed to make the later issues more popular in this case (either the specific theme or some other issue like the existence of mythic rules increasing the demand for high power modules).

That´s a very valuable information, thanks!

Actually i subscribe the AP´s sonce Mummy´s Mask, i was just surprised that it would sell out so fast. There were many complaints about it in the beginning as i am aware, even until now many people told me it´s awesome. I didn´t find the time to run it myself yet. It seems then, MM is rather successful!

Thank you very much for this information. I'm planning to get the AP subscription to stay current, but I'd also like to get the older APs that I missed. PDF format doesn't really interest me because I like flipping back and forth between several reference books/pages; plus, there's something special to me about having the actual book open on the table. So if I can't get the entire AP in physical form, I'll probably just skip it altogether, which makes me sad. :'(

I read such great things about some of the older APs, ie. Skull and Shackles and Kingmaker, but then I get dismayed when I see some of the books are out of stock.

I'm not sure of the print run, but they have mentioned on the boards in various places that the later issues of the APs tend to sell less well than the early issues do, so it may very well be that they print smaller quantities of them.

Two other things to mention (one's as much a question as comment):

Last year, Paizo managed somehow to scroung up some of their classic products and make them available in the Scratch-N-Dent section (I noticed at the time that the hard to find Rivers Run Red had become available there again; I'd already acquired a rare cover price copy elsewhere by then, but I think others might have been happy to find one).

Speaking of Scratch-N-Dent- I've never been completely clear on this, but I don't believe that stock is included in these Going, Going, Gone! numbers. If not, that's another potential source for anyone looking for print products.

Non-mint copies are not included in the Going Going Gone info.

I'm pretty sure they do print less numbers (I seem to remember that being stated by Vic or Lisa at some point but have to glumly concede that my memory isnt what it used to be).

However, I still remember (perhaps incorrectly again) that the lower number instalments tended to make these lists first. That makes me think that paizo perhaps experienced higher demand for the later issues of this AP than usual.

We do print fewer copies of the later volumes of each AP. Also, distributors sometimes make unpredictable purchases, sometime even ordering more copies of later volumes than they did of earlier volumes.

Thanks for confirming, vic. The gloom of middle age recedes for just a little while. :)
