It's worth pointing out that Livingstone wasn't really an explorer. His motivations weren't to "discover" new lands — he was a missionary. Of course, it's also worth pointing out that he wasn't particularly successful there — he had, apparently, only one convert, and he gave it up after Livingstone died.
