Pathfinder Society Scenario #41: The Devil We Know—Part III: Crypt of Fools (PFRPG) PDF

Subterranean Sequels!

Two new Pathfinder Society scenarios are available now!

Our Price: $3.99
Add To Cart

Hollywood loves sequels! When a movie has a big enough following, the folks in Tinseltown are quick to try to repeat their success. We at Paizo are not immune to the idea, so this month we have not one, but two sequels for the Pathfinder Society!

In Pathfinder Society Scenario #41: The Devil We Know—Part III: Crypt of Fools, another kidnapping spree erupts in Cassomir and the Pathfinder Society sends you to the notorious Swift Prison to interrogate a captured cultist about the recent disappearances. With clues gathered there, you must explore Old Cassomir and find secret locations that lead you to the source of the spree: the long lost Crypt of Fools. Part I and Part II of The Devil We Know can be played in either order, but parts III and IV must be sequentially after parts I and II. (Look for Part IV in April!)

Our second sequel, Pathfinder Society Scenario #42: Echoes of the Everwar—Part II: The Watcher of Ages comes from Paizo's star adventure writer Greg Vaughan. Hundreds of years ago a once mighty fortress in Cheliax sank into the earth and was forever destroyed. You are sent there to catalog the ruins, known as the Collapsed Halls, and to find the rumored hidden tomb of an Osiriani concubine. After clearing the ruins of hideous beasts, you explore deeper into the ruins than anyone before you and uncover a malevolent intelligence that has watched Golarion for more than 5,000 years. Worse, he knows you're coming. Parts I, II, and III of Echoes of the Everwar can be played in any order, while part IV must be played last. (Look for Part III in February!)

Dress for Success

Offworld T-Shirts are Back!

In previous years, T-shirts have been among the most popular items on paizo.com—especially the ones from Offworld Designs. In fact, they've been so popular that we've often had trouble keeping them in stock. So we had to get creative.

We're pleased to announce that we're now able to offer a vast selection of Offworld Designs T-shirts—currently, 167 designs, with sizes for most ranging from Small to 5XL, and even a few designs sized specifically for ladies and children! Now, it's not feasible to stock what amounts to more than 1,150 different combinations of styles and sizes, so in order to handle this dizzying assortment of apparel, we had to add a new type of product listing to the store: Special Orders. We'll be placing special orders with Offworld Designs every few weeks, so orders containing Offworld T-Shirts can take notably longer than our usual turnaround times. We think you'll find Offworld's clever designs are worth the wait, though.

Of course, we don't have room here to discuss all 167 styles, so we asked our customer service team to pick out some of their favorites for this blog. Sara Marie is a stylish, witty lass, so she selected Celtic Fairy, Goddess, and Ember for their artistic flair, and Canned Lunch, Cthulhu Saves, and Girl Genius Gear for the statements they make. (I see she actually added those, along with a few others, to her paizo.com wishlist!)

Cosmo, on the other hand, picked out shirts that made him "LOL": Edward and Bela, Epic Mount, I Put the RAGE in Average, and Fools! I Will Destroy You All!

I bet you'll find a few Offworld Designs shirts you like too!

Go West, Young Man!

Chris West releases two new poster maps!

Our Price: $13.99
Add To Cart

As you can probably tell from our GameMastery Map Packs and Flip Mats, I'm a sucker for a good-looking printed map! Every Wednesday, I adventure in Golarion with my Pathfinder group, and I love to throw down a neat map to with visuals that draw the players into the game. So I was jazzed when I saw that Chris West's Maps of Mastery line has been expanded with Poster Map #2—Forsaken Lands (Swamp Caves & Desert Sanctum).

Journey into the remote wilderness! This high-quality, double-sided poster map presents two very different natural environments for use in any genre of game, be it sci-fi, fantasy, or even modern horror! Designed and illustrated by veteran cartographer Christopher West, the poster measures 22" by 34" when unfolded, and features a 1-inch grid for play with most miniatures game systems. Various objects and natural elements printed in the maps feature fine colored lines to mark the boundaries of different kinds of terrain, like walls and obstacles; these are easily ignored if your game of choice doesn't need specific designations for terrain types, but useful if it does.

The Swamp Caves side offers a marshy landscape complete with dense foliage, murky water, dank earthen caves, and a secret hovel carved from the roots of some massive tree. This map has countless places for PCs—or any number of lurking horrors—to hide. Included for free with this poster is a 5 by 7-inch terrain card that you can place over the empty clearing of this map, seamlessly turning it into a starship crash site on some remote planet!

The Desert Sanctum is a ruined temple lost in the drifting sands of some distant wasteland! Shimmering portals of blue energy block the four main entrances, but someone—or something—has broken through the walls in several places, allowing access to the enigmas within! What lies within the great pit at the center of the Chamber of Echoes? Who carved the great obelisks? What forgotten ruler once sat on the misplaced throne? These mysteries are yours to unravel!

Lem on Grass

Two new Reaper Pathfinder Miniatures are here!

List Price: $4.49
Our Price: $4.04
Add To Cart

Our good friends at Reaper are releasing another pair of Pathfinder Miniatures! One is brand-new, and the other is a reissue from the original Crocodile Games line. Clearly, they like the adage "Make new friends, but keep the old; one is silver and the other is gold!"

The all-new mini is Lem, our iconic halfling bard—the eighth figure in our Pathfinder iconics series. Lem comes loaded with short sword and musical instrument, all set to inspire courage in your adventuring group. The smug look on his face is priceless!

The reissued product is actually a two-pack, Nualia & Erylium. This gruesome twosome from Pathfinder #1—Rise of the Runelords Chapter 1: "Burnt Offerings" are queens of a couple of that Adventure Path's main locations, the Catacombs of Wrath and Thistletop. The way these two baddies are ready to mop up do-gooders must make mama Lamashtu very proud!

You might also want to take a look at the cool pictures of two painted miniatures that we just got from Reaper. Harsk looks ready for action, while a new picture of a painted Ezren, our ever-so-cranky iconic wizard, is a sight to behold! (Pathfinder Miniatures are unpainted metal, of course, but hopefully these pictures will inspire you to create your own little works of art!)

Pathfinder Chronicles: Classic Horrors Revisited (PFRPG)

Little Book of Horrors!

The latest Pathfinder Chronicles book takes a look at the classic baddies of fantasy RPGS!

Add Print Edition: $19.99
Add PDF: $13.99

Growing up, I had an awesome book that covered the classic monsters of Hollywood: Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, the Creature from the Black Lagoon... I read that book over and over, absorbing every detail and scanning the TV Guide to find them in movies airing in the late, late, late-night movie slot! So you can imagine my enthusiasm when the R&D gang told me that we would be doing Classic Horrors Revisited as the next Pathfinder Chronicles book!

Born of myth, legend, and even modern film and literature, monsters such as the mummy, vampire, werewolf, and zombie are the stuff of nightmares—and frequent foes of heroic adventurers! Along with flesh golems, gargoyles, ghosts, ghouls, hags, and the mysterious derro, these monsters are staples of horror fiction and the bane of countless would-be heroes.

This 64-page book explores the origin of these creatures (in both the game world and real-world history), as well as their creation, habitat, society, motivations, and role in a campaign. Each creature also includes information on new and deadly creature variants, such as nosferatu vampires, corpse chill mummies, gemstone gargoyles, host corpse zombies, and phantasmagoric ghosts. What’s more, each chapter provides several new and notable examples of each creature, as well as a fully statted and ready-to-run sample monster, whether it’s a flesh golem barbarian, a derro magister, a ghoul necromancer, a hag water-witch, or a lycanthrope-hunting werewolf.

Whether your campaign is a standard fantasy monster hunt, a gothic romance, or an exercise in terror, Classic Horrors Revisited provides both historical insight and fresh new spins on these traditional icons of fear!

GameMastery Flip-Mat: Bandit Outpost

Have Fun Storming the Outpost!

Our latest Flip-Mat takes a look at a bandit camp!

Add Print: $12.99
Add PDF: $8.99

One of the more iconic aspects of fantasy roleplaying campaigns, especially at the lower levels, is the fight with bandits. Usually, the scruffy ruffians jump out of the trees on a dark forest path shouting something like "Your money or your life!" Once they make off with their loot, the PCs will want to track down the outlaws and have their revenge... which is where Bandit Outpost, our latest GameMastery Flip-Mat, comes in.

From the look-out tower to the prison cells to quarters for the goons, the Bandit Outpost is a perfect set-piece for any campaign, and easily doubles as a suitable home for the heroes after they have rescued it from evil. The flip side consists of a dirt road through a green background, perfect for setting up that ambush that relieves characters of their hard-earned gold.

As always, our Flip-Mats are 24" x 30" unfolded, and fold down to a convenient 8" x 10". Its coated surface can handle any dry-erase, wet-erase, or even permanent marker.

Pathfinder Companion: Andoran, Spirit of Liberty (PFRPG)

Give Me Liberty or Give Me Undeath!

The latest Pathfinder Companion concludes our look at the five Pathfinder Society Factions!

Add Print Edition: $10.99
Add PDF: $7.99

There is something that most Americans really like about plucky rebels fighting off the evil empire. I'm talking about the Revolutionary War, of course, not Star Wars: A New Hope (though personally, I like the latter a bit more). Perhaps that's why Andoran, Spirit of Liberty, our latest Pathfinder Companion, channels Patrick Henry, Luke Skywalker, George Washington and Princess Leia. Of course, when you are fighting Cheliax, death may not be the release that it was in the other two wars!

Unwilling to bend a knee to the devil-worshipers of Cheliax, the people of Andoran declared themselves a free country where all men and women had the right to choose their own rulers. Unique among the lands of Golarion, Andoran is a representative democracy; foreign nobles declare it a doomed experiment, yet simultaneously fear that the power of its philosophy may cause peasant uprisings in their own lands. True Andorens believe in self-determination at all costs, and hate slavery with a passion, even going so far as to send their glorious Eagle Knights on dangerous missions to undermine the slave trade in other lands and spread far and wide the call of freedom.

Inside this Pathfinder Companion you’ll find details on the people of Andoran—how they live, how they govern, their relationships with neighboring countries and former nobles, their spiritual outlook, and their deep national connection with birds of prey; the Steel Falcon prestige class, representing the branch of the Eagle Knights devoted to battling slavery; an in-depth history of Andoran, from humble beginnings as a logging territory to the current glorious Republic; descriptions of the major and minor cities of Andoran; potent new magic items and spells; and new traits to customize Andoren characters.

Froghemoth Went A-Courtin'

The new Kobold Quarterly is here!

Add Print Edition: $7.99
Add PDF: $5.99

Kobold Quarterly #12 is a great example of how Wolfgang Baur's company Open Design is courting all flavors of the world's most popular roleplaying game. For players of the 3.5 edition, Wolf has a new creature in the Inevitable of Death; six new Lords of the Abyss, and the Fallen Elves feature. If you prefer the 4th edition of D&D, you'll want to check out Zobeck's Winter Court, boon traps, combat skill challenges, relics of Zobeck, and plagues and diseases. And if your love is the Pathfinder RPG, you'll be happy to see the Ecology of the Frogemoth (with really funky life cycle artwork) and an article on specialty priests. There's even an article written by our own James Jacobs about the Burnt Offerings stage play, with pictures and all! Of course, there's a bunch of system-neutral content, like Monte Cook on game balance, historical ninjas, war wagons for Zobeck, and a dragon's lair map! Trust me: no matter what flavor(s) of your favorite sword-and-sorcery RPG you like to play, there's a lot of good stuff in Kobold Quarterly #12 to catch your eye.

Fans of D&D 4E will also want to check out two new Zobeck Gazetteers from Open Design. The Imperial Gazetteer lets you to travel deep within the palatial crypts of deep realms where death fears to tread. Vampires and spectral knights long ago claimed the country of Morgau & Doresh as their own, while leaving the ghouls their empire deep beneath the earth. Both nations are fully detailed in this volume by award-winning Open Designers Wolfgang Baur and Scott Gable. You get a history of the undead nations above and below the earth; a giant cast of undying antagonists and allies; a new undead race of necropolitan ghouls for PCs to join the unliving; the subterranean realms of the Emperor of the Ghouls; undead-themed gods and magical items; and more original, inventive undead than you can shake a stake at.

The Iron Gazetteer is a primer on the history and lore dwarven of the cantons, and more, all fully compatible with 4th Edition D&D. This handbook for heroism includes descriptions of all the dwarven cantons—even those fallen into ruin; an overview of dwarven society; new races and class builds; paragon paths, and epic destiny; perils of the Ironcrag mountains; new locales, traps and skill checks; enough new monsters to dull even dwarven-smithed steel; and a treasury of dwarven lore, campaign and character ideas, and secrets of the high peaks sure to improve your game.

All three of these Open Design products are available now both print and PDF versions.

Say What? Seoni!

Two new Reaper Pathfinder miniatures are here!

List Price: $6.99
Our Price: $6.29
Add To Cart

Our partners at Reaper Miniatures have just released two more Pathfinder Minis. First up is our most famous iconic, the sorceror Seoni, in a brand-new sculpt based on her appearance on the cover of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook. Combine her with Reaper's recent Core Rulebook version of our iconic fighter, Valeros, and you're two-thirds of the way to recreating Wayne Reynolds' fantastic cover scene! And in April, Reaper plans to release the red dragon to complete the spread. Reaper hasn't finalized the price for the dragon yet, so we can't take preorders, but you can check out a photo of the original sculpt by Julie Guthrie. Keep watching this blog for updates as we get more information!

The other release this week is Xanesha, the lamia matriarch from Pathfinder #2—Rise of the Runelords Chapter 2: "The Skinsaw Murders"—coincidentally, the very volume that introduced Seoni to the world! Xanesha was originally released by Crocodile Games, but has been unavailable for a bit.

Pathfinder Adventure Path #29: Mother of Flies (Council of Thieves 5 of 6) (PFRPG)

Strange Bedfellows!

The next chapter of the Council of Thieves adventure path is here!

Add Print Edition: $19.99
Add PDF: $13.99

You know what they say about the enemy of my enemy... well, when your city is facing its most dire moment, it shouldn't be too surprising that in Pathfinder Adventure Path #29: Mother of Flies, your PCs might have to ally with creatures and factions that they might well be fighting on any other day. But times are dire, so maybe the PCs need to put their usual preferences in mothballs for a bit. What did you expect from veteran Adventure Path writer Greg A. Vaughn?

Leaderless and disorganized, the city of Westcrown reels after a terrifying incursion from the infernal realm. Yet while fiends stalked the streets, a more insidious rebellion unfolded below. Now a new power rises to lay claim to all of Westcrown! Only the insight of a crazed witch might aid the PCs in curtailing this dastardly coup. But can they hope to stand against the true masters of a city poised on the brink of ruin?

This latest Pathfinder Adventure Path volume continues the Council of Thieves Adventure Path. It also includes the newest chapter of our series on the gods of Golarion with a soul-staining glimpse into the infernal faith of the archfiend Asmodeus, by Sean K Reynolds; we have an investigation of the methods and organization of thieves’ guilds, by Kevin Carter; a new chapter of the Pathfinder’s Journal, by Dave Gross; and six new monsters, by Adam Daigle, James Jacobs, Tim Nightengale, and F. Wesley Schneider.

It Beats Seppuku!

The latest Fantasy Flight board game reflects the code of bushido!

List Price: $49.95
Our Price: $44.96
Add To Cart

One of my favorite gaming memories is an RPGA tournament at Gen Con the year that Oriental Adventures hit the scene. It was really fun being immersed in a totally different culture. We played up the whole idea of bushido, the samurai moral code which stresses frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery, and honor unto death. At the end of the session, my friend Rich's character actually committed seppuku because of a disgraceful act during the game! We were all blown away by the powerful story we were telling together. And now Fantasy Flight Games is bringing those concepts to the tabletop in their latest board game, Bushido!

In Bushido, players take on the roles of daimyos, feudal lords in medieval Japan, and compete to become the next shogun of the empire. The main goal in this game of resource management and conflict is to earn honor, which can be achieved in different ways: by holding provinces, winning battles, or through influential ceremonies. The first Daimyo who earns 50 points of honor wins Bushido!

Steppe (Trade Paperback)

A Steppe in the Right Direction!

A new Planet Stories novel is here!

Our Price: $14.99
Add To Cart

Growing up, I was a ravenous science fiction reader. Vance, Van Vogt, Lieber, McCaffrey—the list went on and on. And one of the authors that I developed an affection for in college was Piers Anthony. Of course, I enjoyed his light-hearted Xanth books, but I really dug the Phaze books which bridged the gap between fantasy and science fiction while playing on my love of gaming. So I was ecstatic when Erik told me that Piers Anthony was allowing us to reprint a couple of his out-of-print novels in our Planet Stories line, starting with our latest release, Steppe.

After facing a brutal death at the hands of enemy tribesmen upon the Eurasian steppe, the 9th-century warrior-chieftain Alp awakes in a world of “demons”—sinister businessmen who have brought him fifteen hundred years into the future to make him a soulless pawn in a ruthless game that spans the stars. Based on secret records of Earth’s past, the Game sets players in the roles of historical figures, pitting them against one another in a decadent and deadly fight for supremacy. For Alp, however, war is never a game. With his own execution imminent, Alp must adapt quickly to both his new century and the strange rules of the Game world, facing off in bloodthirsty battles against the most notorious figures in history. For if Alp doesn’t emerge victorious, he’ll never live to claim the woman he loves...

...and here's to a great 2010!

2009 is going into Paizo's annals as our best year ever! With the release of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, the Legacy of Fire and Council of Thieves Adventure Paths, the start of Year 1 in the Pathfinder Society organized play program, and the first PaizoCon run exclusively by Paizo Publishing, we have a lot to be thankful for. And we owe it all to you!

So as a way of saying "THANKS for a great 2009," we're offering you an additional 10% off one order this month! From now until the end of January 2010, you may use the promotional code "holiday10" to get 10% off your order. This is a one-time-only code, so make sure to fill your shopping cart with lots of gaming goodies before using it! And for those rules lawyers out there, it stacks with other promotions—consider it a morale bonus to your paizo.com discounts! The 10% comes off your subtotal after any other discounts have been applied—including the Pathfinder Advantage—but before shipping and taxes are added. This discount isn't valid on subscriptions, preorders, backorders, non-Paizo downloads, or Gus and Duncan's Comprehensive Guide to Star Wars Collectibles—but it's valid on more than 20,000 other items in the store, so go nuts!

Here's to kicking off 2010 in style and having a blast playing the games we love! Thanks once again from all of us at Paizo Publishing and... Happy New Year!
