It's Good to Be the King's Favorite! This new classic from Elfinwerks is now available!
At the Essen Spiel in Germany this past October, one of the games that garnered a lot of buzz was Kingsburg from Elfinwerks, a new game company started by Will Niebling, the former President of Mayfair Games. In Kingsburg, players are Lords sent from the King to administrate frontier territories. The game takes place over five years—a total of 20 turns. In every year there are 3 production seasons for collecting resources, building structures, and training troops. Every fourth turn is the winter, in which all the players must fight an invading army. Each player must face the invaders, so this is not a cooperative game. The resources to build structures and train troops are collected by influencing the advisers in the King's Council. Each adviser on the King's Council will award different resources or allocate soldiers, victory points, and other advantages to the player that was able to influence him/her for the current turn. At the end of five years the player that better developed his assigned territory and most pleased the King through the Council is the winner. More Store Blog. Link.

Two Orcs Walk into a Tavern...Check out Slugfest Games' two newest boardgames! It is a cliche that every adventure must begin in a tavern, but what is almost equally true is that every adventure ENDS in a tavern, too. Adventurers like to release the tension by going to their favorite watering hole, hitting on the barmaids, roughhousing a little bit, and maybe drinking until they're thrown out. Well, if that sounds like your adventuring group, you're going to love The Red Dragon Inn from our partners at Slugfest Games. Red Dragon Inn allows you to take the role of Dierdre the Priestess, Fiona the Volatile, Gerki the Sneak, or Zot the Wizard as they unwind after an adventure. You will drink, gamble, and roughhouse a bit, but keep an eye on your gold—the last conscious adventurer with gold wins the game. I could easily see a gaming group using this game as a way to play out their tavern encounters. Or you could just use it for out-of-game fun with your gaming group. In either case, Red Dragon Inn is a jolly good time! Slugfest also has another another recent game, Tiki Mountain. The volcano god is angry, and anybody that lives on an island can tell you that an angry volcano god isn't good for anybody. In this game you race up the side of Tiki Mountain, trying to beat your fellow villagers so you can be the one who saves the island by appeasing the volcano god. You've got multiple paths to take, various items that can help you, and Tiki Totems to give you a leg up. Can you appease the volcano god before it all blows? These two games have been selling like hotcakes, and they are loads of fun! We have them in stock, and they're perfect gifts for gamers on your shopping list. More Store Blog. Link.
Hitch a Ride to Interplanetary Adventure!Planet Stories subscriptions are now live! Those of us who have been around since the beginning of Dungeons & Dragons might have fondness for an appendix in the back of the 1st edition DM's Guide that was like a gold mine. "Appendix N: Inspirational and Educational Reading" opened my world to the likes of Fritz Leiber, Michael Moorcock, Robert E. Howard, Andre Norton, and many other authors who had helped to shape the worlds of fantasy and science fiction. These authors then became my muses and led me to where I am today. 30 years later, Erik Mona is doing the same thing for a new generation of Game Masters and fans of science fiction and fantasy. Paizo's Planet Stories line of books has the mission of unearthing long-forgotten gems and introducing them to a new audience. Each month, you'll experience one of the classics that shaped not only D&D and adventure roleplaying, but also influenced the modern authors we all love. And to make it easier for you to get these classics, we are proud to announce our Planet Stories subscription service. Each month, we'll ship you the latest Planet Stories book at a discount of 20% off of the cover price. You can even combine shipments with your Pathfinder and GameMastery Modules subscriptions to save on shipping. Further, for a limited time, we are allowing new subscribers to catch up on the Planet Stories books that have already been released—at the 20% discount! Try Gary Gygax's Anubis Murders, where he weaves a fantastic tale of warring wizards that spans the world from the pyramids of ancient Egypt to the mist-shrouded towns of medieval England. Let Michael Moorcock amaze you in City of the Beast with Kane of Old Mars, a brilliant American physicist whose strange experiments in matter transmission catapult him across space and time to the Red Planet. Be amazed at the exploits of C.L. Moore's Jirel of Joiry in Black God's Kiss as the first significant female sword-and-sorcery protagonist swings her sword from one adventure to another. Join Henry Kuttner in Elak of Atlantis as his four long stories depict a brutal world of flashing swords and primal magic, touched by a hint of Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. And finally, let Leigh Brackett, one of the the screenwriters of The Empire Strikes Back, woo you in The Secret of Sinharat as Eric John Stark breaks up the plans of the greatest criminals in the galaxy as they hatch a conspiracy of red revolution. Just subscribe to Planet Stories and add the earlier books to your cart to qualify for the 20% discount. More Store Blog. Link.
Like Elder Elvis, But Totally NotAutographed D&D Elder Evils book ships next week!
Every great Dungeons & Dragons game has an evil antagonist at its center—often the focal point for the character's adventuring. Nothing is more fulfilling than bringing down the bad guy who has dogged your party over months of gaming sessions. Wizards of the Coast's newest D&D book, Elder Evils, provides DMs with truly wicked threats to challenge high-level heroes. Each "elder evil" described in this nightmarish tome comes with a detailed description, stat blocks for the elder evil and its minions, tips for how to incorporate the elder evil into any D&D campaign, adventure seeds, and maps of the elder evil's lair (complete with encounters and room descriptions). The book also provides guidelines to help DMs create their own unique elder evils as worthy campaign villains and endgame encounters. Best of all, the book includes contributions from Paizo's own Jason Bulmahn, James Jacobs, and Mike McArtor, so copies purchased from paizo.com will carry the John Hancocks of all three! So load up your next campaign with some memorable villains and watch the sparks fly! More Store Blog. Link.

The Sandpoint Devil's Baby Brother?New Toy Vault plush goes the cryptozoology route!
One of the cool things that we are doing with Pathfinder and Golarion is visiting various real-world myths and giving them the Pathfinder facelift. Both the Jersey Devil and the Wendigo have gotten the Pathfinder treatment and more will likely face the pen of James Jacobs before long. One myth that hasn't seen the light of day in Pathfinder but sure as heck could is the Chupacabra. The mystery of the Chupacabra (or "goat-sucker") began in 1947 on the colorful isle of Puerto Rico. Beginning with the vicious deaths and draining of blood of various animals, including goats, the infamous Chupacabra mythos spread quickly throughout Latin America. Sightings stretch as far south as Chile, and as far North as Maine. While scientists often have alternate theories regarding the killings, no solid facts disproving the Chupcabra's existence have been found. And now you can get your own Chupacabra Plush from Toy Vault!. And if, like James Jacobs, you're a BIG Godzilla fan, check out this BIG Godzilla! The Supersized Godzilla towers at a startling 20" tall and is the largest Godzilla plush to date. Tokyo, be afraid... be very afraid! More Store Blog. Link.

Lucasfilm's LucasArts and Industrial Light & Magic divisions have been working on a video game that promises to be revolutionary. The story centers around Darth Vader's secret apprentice and his quest to eliminate the last of the Jedi. The video game isn't due until 2008, but you can get a sneak preview of your own with the latest expansion for the Star Wars Miniatures Game. The brand-new Force Unleashed Booster Packs are drawn from a 60-figure booster-only set featuring characters from the Expanded Universe of comics, novels and video games.
