The Legacy Lives On

Civilizations have risen and fallen across Golarion for thousands of years, leaving legends and ruins in their wake. Though nations may vanish, they are never truly gone so long as their traditions and descendants still survive. Breathe life into these lost cultures with character options that trace their origins back to ancient times, or pay homage to a distant ancestry with one of the archetypes presented in Pathfinder Player Companion: Blood of the Ancients!

Inside this book you'll find:

  • The vestige bloodline, which allows both bloodragers and sorcerers the power to not only glimpse into the past but also summon long-dead ancestors and forgotten cities and battlefields into the present day.
  • New archetypes, from the ancient Azlanti ioun kineticists and the Spawn slayers of Ninshabur to the golem-forged Jistkan artificers and the Heaven-mandated jinyiwei investigators of Lung Wa.
  • New spells recovered from ancient cultures, including mystic runes from Shory, life-preserving magic from the Mierani arcane wardens, and spells believed to have been used by the founder of Jistka himself.

This Pathfinder Player Companion is intended for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and the Pathfinder campaign setting, but it can easily be incorporated into any fantasy world.

Today's blog will let you take a peek at the book. ;)

Will the Azlanti Ioun Kineticist be good for the Ruins of Azlant AP, or will it give away too much lore?

There's nothing that really spoils the lore or history of Ancient Azlant as part of the Ioun Kineticist, so you should be good.

Thank you Luis. :)

I'm really hopeful that this product will contain material for characters that want to delve into the tragic backstory of the Cyclopses of Koloran, Ghol-Gan, and Iblydos.

Symbol of Storms art weirded me out a bit till I saw the barefeet and realized it's a halfling and that's why the proportions are so off from Human. Really like the Ironbound Sword art, hoping the archetype is playable (most Cavalier/Samurai ones are pretty bad mechanically).

The preview has definitely increased my interest in this. Improvised weapons Brawler sounds like a good start for a Jackie Chan build, and I’m curious about what both the Iounkineticist and the construct archetypes get.

I just like the Samurai. ;)

I'm really interested in seeing what the Iounkineticist is all about :P

More Masterpieces! Yay! Also eager to see the Investigator archetypes.

Who am I kidding?! I want to see it ALL.

Apparently, I don't rank very high on the shipping list. Sigh.

Pathfinder Companion, Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Wow, that sounds very cool! If you have the time and inclination, my day would be even further improved by some general info on the Ioun Kineticist and/or Vestige Sorc bloodline.

Pathfinder Companion, Modules, Roleplaying Game Subscriber; Starfinder Charter Superscriber

The Ioun Kineticist is basically an aether kineticist who psychically throws Ioun stones at her enemies (and then gets them back). She starts out with three dull gray ones in a "cloud" and can add more as she gains levels. At high levels, an Ioun Kineticist can improve the enhancement bonuses granted by the Ioun stones that normally grant a +2 enhancement bonus to an ability score.

A sorcerer with the Vestige bloodline starts out with a bonded object (as a wizard) and can eventually use her magic to cause broken and destroyed objects in her possession to function as though they were in better shape. The top level abilities let her bring back a dead ancestor for a few rounds or create a mindscape.

Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

If at all possible I'd love to hear about the two wizard archetypes. Ancient lore and wizards is a pretty great combo.

Pathfinder Companion, Modules, Roleplaying Game Subscriber; Starfinder Charter Superscriber

The arcane warden focuses on aiding allies and providing shelter for them. He must be a Universalist wizard.

The Poleiheira Adherent is bonded to a spellbook and focuses on travel and exploration.

Would you be willing to share what the Jistkan Artificer does? And is that mechanical arm we saw on the blog post mechanically represented anywhere in the book?

Thank you! Intriguing... both things I’m looking forward to seeing the final versions on. (Vestige as much for VMC as anything. Sounds like a great thematic fit for Occultist!)

The Jistkan Artificer is a magus archetype whose primary feature is the replacement of one of his natural arms with a "golem arm". That should answer both of your questions.

Awesome! Thanks.

what are the Investigator archetypes like?

An Antiquarian prepares spells from the alchemist list using a collection of trinkets/relics instead of a formula book.

The Jinyiwei is a wisdom based investigator who casts spells as an inquisitor instead of creating extracts as an alchemist.

The Tekritanen Arbiter specializes in diplomacy and languages.

Awesome, funny enough i actually have a backup character that is a Diplomancer/translator investigator, this might help make it better :)

Thanks! Sounds really cool. I like the flavor of the Jinyiwei best, at the moment. It will require further investigation, of course.

Prepares them as spells? Or is it still extracts? Alchemist list casting would be an interesting twist.

Hm.....well that sounds rather lackluster.....

Can you give us any more ?

I'd like to know more about the Ironbound Samurai archetype! :) (Like does it replace mount...)

Sounds like Vestige bloodline is not a good EH pick for an ancestor Eidolon Summoner. That's a shame, because it would have been nice thematically.

There is that "Personal Resistance" ability that enables the kineticist to gain the resonant powers of some (and eventually all) of her Ioun Stones as though they were in a high capacity Wayfinder. Anything else I can say would involve more mechanical details than seem proper for me to reveal.

It does not replace mount.

This archetype focuses on knockout blows and nonlethal damage and multiclasses well with the fighter class.

Can anyone tell us a little about the "Chart caster" Mesmerist?

Could I know more about the inquisitorial investigator?

Hmm. My initial reaction was that I'd have to ban the archetype because of my standing ban on resonant powers, but it seems that they've balanced some of the broken ones, and the remaining broken options don't have synergy with the Kineticist class.

Ah, thank you! I have a friend who will be pleased to hear that.

Is there anything other than the one legendary spirit for Mediums?

OK, THAT's more what I was looking for :P

If your comfortable answering this....do they "have" to attack with their Ioun stones ? or can they still hurl other objects ?

He is basically a fake astrologer.

Exactly. In the Age of Lost Omens, astrological predictions work about as well in Golarion as they do in our world. Given that this is a Mesmerist archetype, I think you can see that the focus of their magic is not divination.

"No matches were found."

Maybe I should make a traditional Mesmerist to see what all the fuss is about. I looked at the base abilities and decided to make a tank and dip for better armour and weapons.

any one can spill the beans for magus archype. like what we give up and what we gain.

You give up one of your arms, some of your spells per day, and your 3rd level arcana.

Arcane pool and spellstrike are altered.

You gain Golem Arm, Improved Unarmed Strike, Empowered Arm, Unarmed Spellstrike, and access to additional arcana usable only by this archetype.
