A Starfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 3-6.

In order to retrieve valuable resources necessary to repair the Wayfinders' flagship, the PCs follow-up on another team's investigative mission to a long-abandoned Starfinder Society lodge on a world in the Vast. Finding the lodge submerged and already partially flooded, the PCs quickly realize they are far from alone in the depths of the distant world's ocean.

Content in Sanctuary of Drowned Delight also contributes to the ongoing goals of the Wayfinders faction.

Everything's better down where its wetter, even for Starfinders!

5/5

<Played in Play-by-Post>

Sanctuary of Drowned Delight brings players to the home territory of a mysterious new alien race, then confronts them with a central mystery that develops over the course of the scenario. It drops them into a freeform exploration and interaction environment that provides plenty of investigation and roleplay. Very reminiscent of a particular stellar Pathfinder Society scenario!

There's a lot to love here. While the mystery itself is fairly easy to catch on to, handling the fallout well is very tricky, and the conclusion is very very dramatic no matter how the events go. Its just a fantastic story to play through.

The Good (spoilers):
  • The underwater setting adds extra challenge to the combats without being quite as punishing as Pathfinder. Asks you to think a little more with your preparations.
  • The characters are equal parts fascinatingly cute and terribly twisted, and there is enough context to the action for PCs to work out how the situation with the cult came to exist.
  • The plot is tragic in multiple ways without ever feeling like its trying too hard to be a tearjerker (the loss of the kalos and the subversion of the good-natured morlamaws is honestly quite well done).
  • The unique map is clear and interesting
  • Overall: Really engaging scenario that gets your role playing juices flowing.

  • The Bad (spoilers):
  • The layout in the PDF is a nightmare of page-flipping and simultaneous event + location entries. Very challenging to GM.
  • The pre-scheduled events make your confrontation with the 'big bad' annoyingly inflexible. It felt frustrating to be stonewalled after seemingly having cracked the mystery.

  • An Old Classic Reimagined

    5/5

This adventure was a delightful update to Starfinder of one of my favorite PFS scenarios. It masterfully balances keeping what made the original work, creating its own unique flavor and setting, and iterating upon the original without being derivative. I had the joy of getting to play this adventure with my wife who has yet to experience the original, and we both loved it! Kate Baker is a star!

    5/5

    Space walrus! Yes!

This scenario is location based, which is to say that PCs are given a single location to explore, and can do so in any fashion and order they desire. In addition to room-based encounters and there are also event-based encounters, which are a lot of fun. In addition to getting to explore a great location on a new planet, players will get to meet and interact with a new alien race. This is a great adventure for players who love to role-play social encounters. It also features investigation elements which are wonderfully subtle.

First contact meets mystery. Really, really great scenario!

    5/5

A really good mix of first contact/whodunnit.
I would recommend a more experienced GM to keep this scenario flowing right and get the maximum out of this.

    Something smells fishy...

    5/5

Loved it! I enjoy the foreshadowing of all the Starfinder scenarios, and this one didn't disappoint. A tense, problem-solving oriented mystery unfolds with dilemma. You fight in their element and must prevail. Great stuff, Kate.

    Spoiler:

Oh! Oh, my. This might be the happiest I've been since being unable to successfully beg a skittermander boon. This might even be better than a skittermander. Maybe. It's definitely bigger than a skittermander. Or even 2-3 skittermanders stuffed into a walrus costume. Well done, O Purveyor Of The PC Space Walrus!!!

I can't wait to run this, so I can post a proper review!

To reiterate what Diego wrote, please place anything that might spoil the scenario or its rewards in spoiler tags.

    That includes:

  • References to playing morlamaws
  • Excitement about including playable races on Chronicle sheets
  • Anticipation of playing a Large technomancer with flippers
  • We're glad that folks are enjoying this scenario so far, but please place those references in spoiler tags where someone glancing at the product page won't have the scenario's contents spoiled.

If any GMs are looking for appropriately-sized, unpainted minis similar to what is on the cover, this is the best (also only) one I could find.
