The Pact Worlds are the beating heart of the Starfinder campaign setting, a solar system full of citizens both familiar and bizarre. From the cosmopolitan corridors of Absalom Station to the carnivorous jungles of Castrovel or the floating cloud-cities of the gas giant Bretheda, this hardcover rulebook is your guide to Starfinder's core worlds and civilizations, and the perfect place to launch any adventure.

Inside, you'll find:

  • In-depth gazetteers of the system's 14 major worlds, from high-tech Verces and the draconic empires of Triaxus to the necromantic wastleands of Eox or magical bubble cities floating on the surface of the sun. Each gazetteer features a detailed world map, residents and cultures, settlements and adventure locations, a unique theme to customize characters from that world, and more.
  • New playable alien races, from undead Eoxians to Castrovellian plant-people.
  • New starships, from the living vessels of the Xenowardens to sinister Hellknight dreadnoughts.
  • A codex of themed NPC stat blocks to help Game Masters create vivid encounters.
  • New archetypes for every class, including the Star Knight, Skyfire Centurion, and Divine Champion.
  • Tons of new weapons, armors, spells, feats, magic items, technological gadgets, and more to help outfit your adventurers.

It says that it's a hardcover in the description.

I also hope it will have no postermap bound in, i'd rather have a seperate "Starfinder Poster Map Folio" with a Star System map, Absalom Station map & a known starship size comparison map.

I don't see it as either/or. I'd like a map in this book and plenty of maps in other products too.

Some kind of schematic map of the known universe/galaxy (akin to the 'map' of the Abyss provided in WotR) would be great too, for me.

Will the undead Eoxians of this book be the same as the Elebrians teased for part 3 of Dead Suns?

Fantastic, loving the look of this

Is this the Starfinder equivalent of Inner Sea World Guide?

I would say so.

Brother Fen wrote:

Most likely, yes.

Muy bien!

So I'm obviously hyped about all of this in general, particularly themes, but what really caught my eyes was new archetypes. In particular... DIVINE CHAMPION. Any chance we'll be getting more deity-specific rules in this book? Not that connections aren't hella neat, but my addiction needs more.

I for one am glad that all archetypes are available to all classes. At least initially, it seems Paizo is publishing only a few Starfinder books per year, so there won't be tons of archetypes, initially. Making single-class archetypes would mean that we'd have only one-seventh of the archetype options available, which would be a bit wasteful. If/when Paizo publishes new classes, the problem would be further compounded.

Besides, a Starfinder archetype designer's main design principle should NOT be "I'm designing this archetype for no particular class so it fits all"; it should be "I'm making this archetype for ALL of the seven existing classes and all classes published in the future". (Future-proofing is difficult, but not impossible.)

In other words, hopefully, whenever new archetypes are published, people will say "Yay, I'm getting new archetypes for my favorite class AND all the other classes, too." That's how I look at it, anyway. :)

Another problem with single-class archetypes in Pathfinder has been that if an archetype built around a particular concept already exists, it's less likely that other classes get archetypes built around the same concept because designers generally strive to create something new rather than more of the same.

I'm sure the new archetypes will be fun and awesome. :)

All of that sounds sensible. Ergo, he must be the Starfinder equivalent of a Witch! Burn Him! Burn the Deep-Space Witch!

More seriously though, I would like some Archetypes that are geared specifically for Caster classes and Non-Caster classes respectively.

Since some folks were asking: this book will be 216 pages long!

Cool.

Ah...basically the default "campaign setting." Good choice for an early release.

Is that galactic standard size pages, or Ysoki sized?

Dark Archive

Just for comparison, the "Inner Sea World Guide" has 320 pages.

But that book showcases 41 nations on 4 pages each,
over 18 races on 20 pages,
4 prestige classes on 8 pages &
feats, equipments, spells & items on 18 pages.

My question is:
How many pages will each planet get & how much overlap will there be with the planet gazetteers in the APs #1-6 backmatter articles?

This should be renamed to the Hitchhiker's Guide to Starfinder.

The Campaign Setting precursor to the ISWG is probably a better comparison (256 pages). I'll leave the pagecount breakdowns to the more energetic forumgoers. :)

So August, October, then March? Is that a big gap because of the holiday season, or am I missing something?

Also, loving the sound of it, has everything I was also hoping for in another book. Dying to know what those archetypes do, especially Divine Champion, as I was just looking into making a soldier with a holy weapon. One thing I can't help but wonder is this only details on the worlds within the solar system, or all of the Pact Worlds? Because the Veskarium is not within the system itself. 14 gazetteers?

1- Sun
2- Aballon
3- Castrovel
4- Absalom Station?
5- Akiton
6- Verces
7- Idari
8- Diaspora
9- Eox
10- Triaxus
11- Liavara
12- Bretheda
13- Apostae
14- Aucturn

That would be the whole star system, I suppose, but then the Vesk Homeworld would stay a mystery, unless they leave one of those out...

Veskarium isn't a Pact World, it just has an alliance with the Pact Worlds.

The Pathfinder RPG has traditionally released 3 hardcovers per year (not counting the occasional Campaign Setting Hardcover, which are a separate line). One in the spring, one at GenCon, and one in the fall. So far, it appears Starfinder is following a similar pattern.

I suspect 2019 will see a hardcover called something like The Near and the Vast and will include gazetteers and rules info for a lot of the non-Pact civilizations, including the Veskarium, the Azlanti Star Empire, Kasath, and so on.

Does this mean we get class specific Archetypes or just Archetypes that can be used with every class?

Archetypes that can be used with every class. That's our baseline. Any different use of archetypes should be the exception.

Could we maybe get some alternative sets of trades for a class then? For instance, I like most of the mystic but don't care for the psychic stuff. It'd be nice to have an archetype to trade it out.

I don´t think the next Starfinder hardcover after this one will be another worlds book.

A "Starfinder Hardware Catalogue" seems most likely, as most weapons and armors don´t get an illustration in the CRB and don´t even get me started on vehicles - a measly 9 sample vehicles on 2 pages - no tanks, drop-pods, mechas...
Also equipment and magic items get a real short part only.
We also need deck plans for the starships and more enhancements.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

My guess would be a "Advanced Player's Guide" style book maybe as the next one.

I'm hoping to see a wider variety if operative weapons myself, rather then just a knife and baton.

Liberty's Edge

I think they said that the plan is to release an Alien Archive every year. My bet on the last book is a technology guide.

eh... dunno.

personally, i hope they keep stuff limited for players on a budget, and with less interest in the new and shiny.

2 hardcovers a year is fine. heck, 1 would be okay by me.

Yeah... After deciding on a ysoki mechanic I looked into the drone and thought: "Not on the first play. Exocortex seems way easier to play for the first game."

Then I read the exocortex combat training and thought: "Now I'm a space trash panda with longarm proficiency. Where's my tree-people friend?"

An equivalent to Ultimate Equipment would be great. I would also love a book filled with deck plans and ship stats - a "ship archive" or something like that.

I'd like a book detailing the Pact Worlds, maybe with a map of every planet, and starships.

Almost like a gazetteer of some sort.

But they'd never do that!

People can already play Eoxians. Just write "Eox" on the Home Planet section of your character sheet.

Now, Elebrians, on the other hand...

I am thrilled at the opportunity to play these new archetypes. The western motif is unmistakable in STARFINDER. I hope the archetype of the frontiersman is given some thought. Frontiersman echoes in my mind from the stories my grandmother would tell me are mythic about our ancestors who were frontiersmen. Frontiersman as a theme would fit in because what the spacefarer theme did not get in-depth about the frontiersman moves in and deals with often with no support or in-depth skill.
The Law whether a theme for class or theme should be thought about too.
