The Power of Dragons Is Yours

Few creatures inspire greater awe than dragons, and Pathfinder Player Companion: Legacy of Dragons dives into the ripples left in these mighty creatures' wake. Whether they help or harm, dragons make a lasting impression, from the legends and philosophies they inspire to the bloodlines they foster.

Inside this book you'll find:

  • New archetypes ranging from the dragonheir scion to the wyrmwitch, allowing players to access draconic appearances as well as lore, powers, and spells.
  • Ways for characters to enlist drakes and lesser dragons to serve as allies, improved familiars, and even flying mounts.
  • New draconic bloodlines for bloodragers and sorcerers, allowing eldritch abilities based on esoteric, imperial, outer, and primal dragons.

This Pathfinder Player Companion is intended for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, but can be easily incorporated into any fantasy world.

Packed with good options for your use

5/5

I enjoyed this book (I got the print edition). It offers good options for use for a player with a dragon bloodline. And I don't mean just the sorcerer bloodlines, although they are in there too. There are options and archetypes for your use. Well worth the price.

Fluff good, not much else is.

2/5

I wanted to like this book. I really, really, really did. The fluff is great, and the 'premise' of the archetypes and drakes are nice.

But.

Both the archetypes, and the drake companions themselves, have some of the worst balancing I have seen in pathfinder. An example of this is the druid, who replaces an animal companion with a drake companion. The drake is actually weaker then alot of normal animal companion choices, and to take the archetype actually removes six of his core abilities just for the drake part of the archetype, never mind the additional abilities changed for the other parts of the archetype.

I really hope at some point paizo revisits the idea of these drake archetypes and companions and does a tremendous re-balancing, as many of these archetypes feel almost unplayable with how bad they can gimp a character.

The new Dragon-themed options are BAD

1/5

I picked up this book excited to create my new "Dragon" themed character and all the options were very weak. Also, throughout the book there were sentences repeated over and over again. I waited months for this issue and I'm completely disappointed. It's the worst Player Companion I've ever read.

Some bad, some good. Sorta meh

2/5

This book has a few good ideas and some great flavor text.

It falls short on the mechanics side though, especially with the archetypes that involve drakes. The cavalier archetype that gets a drake is the worst, and is so bad, I think the writer(s) who made it have never played a cavalier before, it just guts the class.

There are some glaring typos in the book, like a certain fighter archetype replacing a bonus feat at a level that the fighter does not get a bonus feat on.

This book could have been, dare I say SHOULD have been, so much more.

Great Flavor, Great Options

5/5

While I usually like some sections of the player companion line, I very rarely like all of them. This is the rare exception. Excellent character options, monsters, and spells throughout.

I was originally getting this to give as a birthday gift. Then Crystal Frasier decided to make blog post that oozes more charm and compulsion than an immortal ichor.
Now I'm buying one for me, too.

We could even necroraise the existing "Blood of Dragons?" thread.

It was definitely entertaining, though not particularly enlightening...

Ambrosia,

Necro-threading it what it's generally called.

I can't wait for next week.

I'd rather have a dragon summoner feat akin to Summon Good Monster or Expanded Summon Monster rather than an archetype. Not everything cool that's summon-related has to go to the class.

Perhaps, but a dragon eidolon for the unchained summoner would be dandy.

Orders should start later today or tomorrow.

So, anyone has the PDF yet?

If so, then...

1)What are the sorcerer/bloodrager bloodlines like?

2)What are the archetypes? what class? what are they like?

3)Any dragon related feats? If so what are they?

*thinks we might be while before we know anything on this one Dragon*

I could be wrong though.

The Skald gets the draconic archetype?! As if they hadn't robbed the Bard enough...

Love the new form spells and bloodlines!

Now, when will I get MY PDFs!!!!!?????

Wonderful. Could you elaborate on the Dragon Oracle and Drake animal companions please?

Are the bloodlines alternate packages like the mutations in UM or are they full bloodlines?

What are the feats?

What are the alternate racial traits?

Oh, my! I guess I'm buying this!

Bards have a secret class feature that makes their tears delicious.

Could we get the alignments for the Caligraphy Wyrm and Pseudowyvern?

Dammit Kvantum! :p You always ruin my fun. :p ;)

I wouldn't mind details on those archetypes Kvantum.

I just hope that the book has stuff I can use as a designer. Owen, I hope you've worked your magic.

OK, let me try to take some of these in turn.

Spoiler:

The Dragon oracle mystery... well, it makes you more like a dragon. Revelations for scales and senses and a tail and breath weapons and just, well, dragon-y stuff.
The Drake companion is along the lines of an Unchained Eidolon. A set progression of abilities, but a few that can be chosen. Not a point-based system, but still some flexibility. Maxes out at 15 HD like an Eidolon, too.
The alternate bloodlines are really just variant bloodline arcana and different breath weapon types and shapes (though a few do offer bludgeoning or piercing for their damage types!)
The new Improved Familiars are both N-aligned.

Sorry, I have to turn in early tonight. Work has been kicking my butt the last couple of weeks.

Thanks, Kvantum!

Thanks for the info Kvantum.

Much appreciated!

The Heritage Feats sound interesting. The Blue Dragon Heritage picture from the blog is growing on me.

That was posted last week, so "Next week Tuesday or Wednesday" means today and tomorrow. If all is still on target, we should be seeing a bunch of people getting their PDFs soon, and hopefully they'll be helpful on the product threads because I think I'm towards the end of the queue again this month and there's too much good stuff coming out.

Dragonblood Chymist and more Heritage feats sound nifty!

Agreed. I mean I love more linnorms as everyone knows, but so far I'd say Horror Adventures has some stuff I want to use RIGHT away.

This book probably like in 2 weeks.

Can someone list the feats, traits, and alternate racial traits?

Scaled Fist goes off of CHA instead of WIS. Start gaining dragon immunities and can imbue their attacks with an element and gain a breath attack. Has rules for if you're playing a core monk or unchained version.

Linnorm Style you reduce your AC and get bonuses and AoOs vs those that attack you, and even more vs those that drop you.

Tatzlwyrm Style lets your UAS deal slashing damage, helps breaks others out of grapples, makes you harder to grapple, and can grapple without using your hands.

Wyvern Style lets you Flurry with certain close range weapons and whips, makes your allies not provoke through movement against whoever you're Flurrying, and can take 5ft steps in the middle of their Flurry.

Ah, my bad, missed a single very important number.

Wyvern Wing (the final feat) lets you take 2 5ft steps while flurrying.

Saddly, no.

Though the extra AoO (on top of the AoOs they provoker for attacking you) and a chance for them to be stunned is still nice.
