The Power of Dragons Is Yours

Few creatures inspire greater awe than dragons, and Pathfinder Player Companion: Legacy of Dragons dives into the ripples left in these mighty creatures' wake. Whether they help or harm, dragons make a lasting impression, from the legends and philosophies they inspire to the bloodlines they foster.

Inside this book you'll find:

  • New archetypes ranging from the dragonheir scion to the wyrmwitch, allowing players to access draconic appearances as well as lore, powers, and spells.
  • Ways for characters to enlist drakes and lesser dragons to serve as allies, improved familiars, and even flying mounts.
  • New draconic bloodlines for bloodragers and sorcerers, allowing eldritch abilities based on esoteric, imperial, outer, and primal dragons.

This Pathfinder Player Companion is intended for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, but can be easily incorporated into any fantasy world.

Packed with good options for your use

5/5

I enjoyed this book (I got the print edition). It offers good options for use for a player with a dragon bloodline. And I don't mean just the sorcerer bloodlines, although they are in there too. There are options and archetypes for your use. Well worth the price.

Fluff good, not much else is.

2/5

I wanted to like this book. I really, really, really did. The fluff is great, and the 'premise' of the archetypes and drakes are nice.

But.

Both the archetypes, and the drake companions themselves, have some of the worst balancing I have seen in pathfinder. An example of this is the druid, who replaces an animal companion with a drake companion. The drake is actually weaker then alot of normal animal companion choices, and to take the archetype actually removes six of his core abilities just for the drake part of the archetype, never mind the additional abilities changed for the other parts of the archetype.

I really hope at some point paizo revisits the idea of these drake archetypes and companions and does a tremendous re-balancing, as many of these archetypes feel almost unplayable with how bad they can gimp a character.

The new Dragon-themed options are BAD

1/5

I picked up this book excited to create my new "Dragon" themed character and all the options were very weak. Also, throughout the book there were sentences repeated over and over again. I waited months for this issue and I'm completely disappointed. It's the worst Player Companion I've ever read.

Some bad, some good. Sorta meh

2/5

This book has a few good ideas and some great flavor text.

It falls short on the mechanics side though, especially with the archetypes that involve drakes. The cavalier archetype that gets a drake is the worst, and is so bad, I think the writer(s) who made it have never played a cavalier before, it just guts the class.

There are some glaring typos in the book, like a certain fighter archetype replacing a bonus feat at a level that the fighter does not get a bonus feat on.

This book could have been, dare I say SHOULD have been, so much more.

Great Flavor, Great Options

5/5

While I usually like some sections of the player companion line, I very rarely like all of them. This is the rare exception. Excellent character options, monsters, and spells throughout.

So -- do we have any additional insight into the Dragonheir Scion archetype?

And do any of the options in this book boost ability scores in a manner similar to the Dragon Disciple prestige class?

Unless somebody from Paizo is willing to provide spoilers, I may end up answering these questions myself in late July.

The dragonheir scion is probably a knight archtype, as we are getting dragons as mounts, that would be the most compatible option. Or at least I hope we are getting a "dragon rider" archtype.

Loved the idea about the draconic legends for the medium, even if it would replace the archmage legend only.

Maybe the dragonheir scion is a archetype based on Daenerys;)

So it would be a Bard archtype? Dracarys! XD

That seems to be the best fit class wise for her.

I always though she was a druid myself...

Nope a bard with dragon empathy;)

You say so. I'm still waiting to see what other archetypes might show up in this book.

I find myself getting more excited about this book as time goes on. The Improved Familiar and Bloodline options sound particularly enticing.

Linnorm. Death Curse. Rage Powers.

A linnorm death curse that inflicts permanent fear or at least a phobia of all creatures of the dragon type.

Silver Crusade

They all kinda do that already.

They've already said that it won't be going to a class with spellcasting, though.

It's not a spellcasting class!

Very much looking at getting my hands on this!

I wonder if we will get any previews for this one.

Do we know when it will be shipped to subscribers not going to GEN CON?

Won't it be shipped soon this month?

Check the July shipping thread under "Customer Service" under "paizo.com" for all relevant dates for the late July/early August products. The last time I checked, authorizations were scheduled for July 21-22 and shipments were scheduled to start July 25. If you are going to Gen Con, you probably should sign up to pick up your subscription there, as there is no guarantee that you will get your delivery before you leave for it.

Yeah I suspect we'll not get much info from subscribers until probably during or after GenCon.

I wouldn't say that -- we will have the PDFs well before Gencon. It is the physical copies that we probably won't have by then.

Mmm.

Okay David. I take your word on it since you're a subscriber and I'm not.

Gah! I don't want to have to wait another month for this book. Oh well.

If I were moving, do I just contact customer service?

Pathfinder Maps, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Maps, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I would, if you can't be sure that the shipping address will be correct otherwise. You might want to ask to have your subscriptions suspended for a month if you are moving while your shipment is likely to be en route.

I think the word 'linnorm' has been used far more often in these comments than 'dragon'. You'd think it was Legacy of the Linnorm. Not that I'd be upset with having that book.

Squatch,

I just figured I should keep representing linnorms.

Dragon represents dragons a lot.

My thoughts:

Azi.

Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi Azi.

That is all.

PS:
Seriously, though, we need to bring back the azi.

Yes, bring back the Azi but give it new art, the original art was bad.

Eh, they looked pretty cool to me, but now that we have LINNORMS they might want to change them em up a bit so they look more distinguishable.

Silver Crusade Contributor

...I thought the art was perfectly fine. :/

And they always seemed distinct from linnorms to me. After all, I love linnorms (although not as much as most of you, it seems). If they were that much like linnorms, I'd just use linnorms. ^_^

(Aren't they from mythology? Where's Myth Lord when we need him?)

Kinda, they're based on/inspired by Azi-Dahaka I believe.

Just went back and read through my copy of LoF 6 and yeah, I had just forgotten what they looked like. They're pretty distinguishable on their own (with the possible exception of the Gandareva which is what was reminding me of them looking like Linnorms, the four arms is cool though).

I'm not Myth Lord, but I believe their origin is related to Aži Dahāka and specifically other dragons in Iranian tradition.

Edit: Ninja-ed!

Silver Crusade Contributor

I knew they were from Middle Eastern myth, and that it was the same source Dahak was inspired by. ^_^

I just didn't know if their appearances were based directly on those myths - if so, it makes changing their look more difficult.

Silver Crusade

Looking forward to this but I am wondering if there will be an update to the People of the Stars trait that allows the space dragons to be progenetors of the bloodline. Is taking a trait worth it for IIRC more flavor than anything?
