Glories of the Dawn

Sprawling along the eastern shore of the Inner Sea lies Qadira, one of the mightiest nations of the region. Itself merely the westernmost tip of the vast Padishah Empire of Kelesh, Qadira has long stood as a bastion of culture and faith for humanity. Great dangers and wondrous opportunities for adventure await within this storied land—those who visit Qadira are well-advised to prepare for their journey!

Inside this book, you'll find:

  • Comprehensive information about the history of the mighty nation of Qadira, its people, their customs, and their faiths.
  • A first look at many elements of the Padishah Empire of Kelesh, including new societies, new faiths, and new organizations from that ancient region.
  • A full map of the nation of Qadira that covers both its civilized regions and its wilderness, revealing never-before-detailed jungles, strange new sites in which to adventure, and the full expanse of the land's beautiful but deadly deserts.
  • A detailed and robust system for finding patrons and working with Qadira's movers and shakers among the nobility and powerful merchant families.
  • Several new monsters, including genie-touched horses, along with a wide range of new player options for characters from Qadira, including archetypes, feats, magic, traits, and much more!

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Qadira, Jewel of the East is intended for use with the Pathfinder campaign setting, but can be easily adapted to any fantasy world.

Fantastic!

5/5

I love this book! The world and lore are my favorite part of Pathfinder, and Qadira has always been one of my favorite parts of the setting. This book does a great job, and gives me so much that I can use to flesh out my Qadiran characters. Please keep these types of books coming I would love to see something similar to this that deals with Vudra!

Excellent book!

5/5

As a lover of geography courses, this book hits all the right notes. Qadira comes across as a real place, with concise but well thought out emphasis put on the factors (cultural/economic/geographic/etc) that make a nation and its peoples what they are. There are also frequent and interesting glimpses of Kelesh and Casmaron, with particular emphasis on how Qadira's status as an Inner Sea nation affects its relationship to the greater empire. Amongst all of this excellent information lie plenty of adventure hooks and rules options to help Qadira come alive during a game. The ashiftah battle witch is a simply written but super flavorful archetype (for real check it out), and the genie-touched horses are a clear fit. The patronage system adds some structure to help you convey what for a GM could be a very important but difficult to navigate aspect of Qadiran culture.

Basically, this book really adds to the Inner Sea and Golarion as a whole. You should buy it!

Perfect Campaign Setting

5/5

This product benefits greatly from having a single author instead of being a patchwork quilt with multiple contributors. It's not a boring, "here's a timeline, gazetteer of places, some organizations, then a bestiary" kind of rote by the numbers standard thing. It gives us a lot of flavor stuff, from relationships with other nations, customs, new crunch like patronage subsystems and witch archetypes. In many ways, Qadira reminds me of the old 1e Forgotten Realms box set in that it really gets down to the brass tacks of what life is like in the environment and makes it come alive for me. Jessica Price does a great job here and this product is a very strong argument for more single-author Campaign Setting books.

Great Campaign Book

5/5

This a great book that brought Qadira alive for me. I especially loved the patronage system and the witch stuff.

Okay book

3/5

The book has some nice fluff to it and expands what little we know of the Keleshite empire and its people, but that's pretty much all the good parts. I was hoping for some good settlement descriptions and notable personalities, city maps and such. The map is needs work and was changed from a previous map of Qadira (new mountains, river, and a forest!).

Now all this could be due to the fact that the Keleshite Empire and Casmaron have not been fleshed out yet. But I see book this as a lost opportunity to do exactly that. Create an anchor for us to go into that continent.

My biggest issue with this is the populations. They're HUGE in comparison to the Avistani nations. You could add up all of Cheliax, Andoran and Taldor and not come up with those numbers. This from a country that is mainly desert. Like how would Zimar ever harass the Qadiran ships when there is a city almost 5 times its size on the opposite banks of the Jalrune river.

There are short descriptions of nine new deities/cults specific in Kelesh, as well as information on Kelesh-specific forms of Sarenism.

There are also new ethnicities, and commentary about some of their religious beliefs.

Awesome. Thanks. :)

Been waiting for this book since... pretty much the original Gazetteer revealed there was a Qadira. So I'd be stoked even if it didn't have cool writers - but since it does have cool writers, I'm stoked like a red-hot furnace for this.

Is it christmas yet?

And I hope we get to see some more information about the horse riding desert tribes beyond them being desert tribes who rides horses.

Swoon! I love Arabian Knights/Al-Qadim-esque settings, as my overenthusiasm for the Wayfinder on that topic probably suggested.

I'm just going to imagine that ten page article on the spice trade in my head, now. I love that sort of setting flavor, not just for the fun of reading it, but for how useful it is in setting up encounters.

There's only so many chosen-randomly-in-a-panic-turnip caravans one can guard before the players ask, 'Why is every country shipping turnips to every other country? Are they like fruitcake, the gift that keeps on regifting?'

Knowing what sort of farmers will need your protection from ankhegs, or what sort of things are in the barrels you'll be setting on fire and throwing at the gnolls (or overboard, to lighten the load/appease the dragon turtle), is useful game information! :)

In one of the PaizoCon seminars that I listened to via KnowDirection, someone mentions that there will be a witch archetype with sand and elemental powers in this book. I for one will be happy to learn more about Pathfinder's official rules for sandwitches.

I am interested to see where this goes. The study of Islam is one of my interests so I will likely be reading these new entries with a critical eye looking for similarities and sources of inspiration. All in all I think this is a good thing.

Sarenite Sufism would be a pretty cool idea to explore. "Asmodeus wasn't such a bad guy!"

Official Pathfinder rules for sandwhiches, exactly what we need :D

As a not directly Inner Sea book, this gets a lot of attention from me and i do have some higher hopes for it.
It sounds pretty interesting so far.

I have to say, together with the magic item mastery feats though new magic carpets and rules for them could be a very cool thing, especially for everyone who doesn´t get to cast fly on herself.
Spring attacks from magic carpets for rogues please as well as other shenanigans!

Keleshite culture is more based on pre-Islamic Persia/ancient Mesopotamia than the Islamic Middle East, so I wouldn't expect to see too many parallels, especially since with the Cult of the Dawnflower being a sometimes-violent offshoot of mainline Sarenism, we didn't want to draw parallels between Sarenism and modern-day Islam.

Sarenism bears some similarities to all three Abrahamic religions in that it's a faith from east of the Inner Sea region that's becoming increasingly popular in the Inner Sea region, and to Christianity and Islam in being the state religion of an empire, and maybe to the Golden Age of Islam in Spain in that it's dominant while being tolerant of other faiths, but as far as the details, we try to avoid too many similarities.

That said, if you like mysticism, there's a few hints about mysticism, as well as an ascetic order, within the Sarenite church. :-)

Will there be a short mention of political and trade relations with it's neighboring states?

I believe Taldor in the north, World's Edge mountains/windswept wastes in the east and Zelshabbar in the south are the only ones bordering directly, but there are also the Isle of Kortos/Absalom, Osirion, Katapesh and Jalmeray across the sea.

Thx for your time.

Really looking forward to this book. We just left Qadira in the Wednesday night game I play in after getting through Feast of Dust. My current character is a native sylph wizard, and before him I played an ifrit swashbuckler also from the region. Naturally, I'm curious how much there will be on the elemental races in Qadira.

There is definitely cut material that I'm saving for a blog. :-) The map is going to show Qadira's eastern border (since the Inner Sea map cuts it off) but I don't believe it names anything east of that border.

East of that border is more of Kelesh, basically. We haven't worked out the names of all the other satrapies.

Is there much in the way of "broad strokes" information on how Kelesh functions? Or is this very tightly focussed on Qadira?

Project Manager

There's a considerable amount of information about how Kelesh functions, the succession question in Kelesh, and so on. It's mostly framed in terms of either how Qadira is not typical of Kelesh, or how it affects Qadira, but given that we've generally treated Qadira as if it were just another nation, I thought it was important to focus on the fact that it has a sort of dual identity: it's both an Inner Sea nation, and a part of an empire we haven't touched on much.

Qadira + new local deities, ethnicities? Oh man... this book will be awesome

It's also cool to hear that the Keleshites take a bit of inspiration from Zoroastrian Persia, it's not something I've seen done in a fantasy setting before.

Very keen to find out what the new ethnicities might be. I'm guessing it isn't something Turkic since we've got the Kara for that now. Maybe something inspired by ancient Caucasian peoples (like Armenians and Georgians) or the Scythians? (whom were the main inspiration for the mythical Amazons since they reputedly had many female warriors among their ranks). Either way, no doubt it will be something quite interesting and I hope also there will be some interesting demihuman/humanoid cultures & societies in Qadira as well. :)

But yeah I also really hope a Taldor book comes soon
