Pathfinder Flip-Mat Classics: Waterfront Tavern

It´s great to see that the classics line sells good enough to let the reprints continue.

But why choose a flip-mat that has been reprinted already as one side of the "Seedy Tavern" flip-mat of which between 500 and 1000 are still in stock?

There are some flip-mats in higher demand than this, like:
-"Pirate Ship",
-"Bandit Outpost",
-"Battlefield",
-"Mountain Pass",
-"Keep",
-"Darklands",
-"Dragon´s Lair",
and even the "beach" side of "Pirate Island".

I know the dimensions are not exactly the same, but is it really a sound financial decision to reprint this or is it an oversight?

I don´t want to troll or question Paizo´s decisions, i only ask because i noticed this 80% similarity.

The Flip maps Darklands and Deep Forest are used for one of the most ran Pathfinder Society Scenarios and are both out of print, I feel both would sell well.

What do you base this on? I would assume that Paizo has some kind of statistics (such as webpage hits, sellthrough velocity, retailer demand or direct customer feedback) that they are working from rather than just picking mats at random. What numbers are you working from?

$19.99 is $6 more than the other flip-mat classics and a 43% price increase. Are all map prices going up?

I see how many people ask for them in the forums (like the post above yours), i check how old they are and how fast they went out of print, i look how many are offered on amazon and e-bay etc. and for what prices they sell and how many people in my local flagstore ask for them among some other things.

And although i don't have knowledge about Paizos methods to check the success of their products, i don't have to, if i see that an almost identical product is still in their stock in triple digit numbers.

Your local store is in Europe, and Europe is 20% of the market at very best. Plus, Euros have weird, pervert tastes that don't always overlap with what the Real Men and Women of U.S.A. (and Canada) go for ;-P

And finally, the fact that Paizo lists that they have something at low stock can mean two things: either it is very popular and going down, or it has saturated the market and it's not moving anywhere. Case in point: Art of Dragon Magazine.

Hey Steve. No, that was a mistake. The cover price should be $13.99 for all the FM Classics and we will get this fixed!

Your first point is mostly right. Forum posts offer only a limited view, sales numbers are much more revealing.

The fact, that in november 2015 there were still over 500 and under 1000 of the flip-mat "Seedy Tavern" (released in september 2013)which reprints "Waterfront Tavern" on one side, speaks against a reprint in the "Pathfinder Flip-Mat Classics" line.

Not exactly.

Waterfront Tavern is blank on the flip-side.

Waterfront Tsvern looks more "run-down", actually seedier than the "Seedy Tavern".

They are about 80% the same on one side.

I am a little confused and put off by the PDF pricing. It seems pretty high considering how little is actually provided in the PDF.

I am looking at using the Roll20 online system as my group starts to move apart. Using the PDF as a backdrop for that would seem ideal. But even the sale price of $7 is far too much to pay for a backdrop, especially since I'll need one for every encounter that I include in a campaign. Even if the tavern is the main focus of the campaign, it is hardly worth that price. (And on top of the backdrop, I'll still have a lot of work to do on other map layers in Roll20.)

I would love to use high quality prints like this in my online campaign. But if this is the price for PDFs, I will have to go back to hand-drawn maps.

Right. Paizo makes high quality maps for people to use. Gamers pay Paizo to use their maps in the game. That's exactly how it works.

There are a few map packs that you can get that offer different settings that are extremely useful such as the Ambush Sites, City, Countryside or Town map packs. There's also a specifically tavern oriented Inns map pack with a few different taverns included.
